[Touch-packages] [Bug 1988438] Re: Xorg crash

2022-09-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. I don't think crocus (which we do use
automatically in Ubuntu 22.04) can solve this because the GLSL
requirements come from the hardware.

Have you tried regular Ubuntu 22.04 with GNOME that defaults to Wayland instead?

  Xorg crashes with [Failed to compile FS: 0:1(10): error: GLSL 1.30 is

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Crashes X11 back to login screen typically when running the browser.

  I refurbish old laptops, and this older HP Pavilion dvb Core Duo with
  Intel graphics is probably no longer supported by Mesa 22 from the
  searching of the core problems that I did.

  Please consider some option for those of us that want to prevent these
  older but like-new machines from ending up in a landfill. We still
  want a modern up to date secure Gnome2 experience from Ubuntu.

  $ grep -nrw error /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old

  518:Fatal server error:

  I tried to use crocus to by adding the MESA invocation to the .profile
  but that didn't change the random crashes during Firefox or Chrome
  browsing.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1988488] [NEW] Screen freeze at the moment of login

2022-09-01 Thread BertN45
Public bug reported:

The problem started to appear 2 weeks ago after one of my daily updates.
It also happens after I re-install the system from a freshly downloaded
ISO file. The system freezes at the moment, it starts the gnome display
manager.

I file the bug-report after a partial upgrade just before I will reboot
the system. If needed I can reboot in recovery mode, since the gnome
display manager is not started in that case.

I tried the continue button without effect and also "apt upgrade" and
"apt dist-upgrade" do have the same effect

I run the VM from the Host-OpenZFS file system, so I can restore to
before the update. Recently I use a Virtualbox snapshot to restore the
system to before the update/upgrade.

If you need log files, let me know.

Bug description:
  New timezone data, with the following timezones impacted:
  - Chile will spring forward on 2022-09-11, not 2022-09-04 (America/Santiago)
  - Iran no longer observes DST (Asia/Tehran)

  Verification is done with 'zdump'. The first timezone that gets
  changed in the updated package is dumped with 'zdump -v
  $region/$timezone_that_changed' (this needs to be greped for in
  /usr/share/zoneinfo/). [For example: 'zdump -v Asia/Gaza'.] This is
  compared to the same output after the updated package got installed.
  If those are different the verification is considered done.

  [Test Case for all releases]
  1) zdump -v America/Santiago | grep 'Sep.*2022'
-> should indicate Sep 11, not Sep 4
  2) zdump -v Asia/Tehran | tail
-> last dates should be in 2022, not in 2499

  [Test Case for releases >= 20.04 LTS]

  For releases with ICU timezone data verification is done using the following
with dates before and after the change:
  1) sudo apt-get install python3-icu
  2) Run the following python script:

  from datetime import datetime
  from icu import ICUtzinfo, TimeZone
  tz = ICUtzinfo(TimeZone.createTimeZone("America/Santiago"))
  always_before = datetime(2022, 9, 1)
  now_before = datetime(2022, 9, 8)
  always_after = datetime(2022, 9, 12)
  assert(tz.utcoffset(always_before) == tz.utcoffset(now_before))
  assert(tz.utcoffset(now_before) != tz.utcoffset(always_after))

  The assertions would crash on 2022a.

  [Test Case for releases <= 20.04 LTS]

  Additionally, an upstream update of tzdata removed the 'old' SystemV
timezones, so we should ensure that they are kept in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and
earlier releases. Subsequently, these should be checked for using the following:
  diff <(zdump -v America/Phoenix | cut -d' ' -f2-) <(zdump -v SystemV/MST7 |
cut -d' ' -f2-)

  Nothing should be returned by the above command.

  [Original report]
  tzdata 2022b and 2022c were just released that includes some timezone changes
for Chile. According to the tzdata lib listed for Ubuntu 20.04, the latest
package is 2022a. Any idea when 2022b or 2022c will be available? Chile made a
change to the start of their daylight savings and pushed it from Sept 4th to
the 11th, so we really need our servers updated before the 4th.

  Thanks

  Jason

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1988484] [NEW] Holding down volume keys sometimes crashes xorg

2022-09-01 Thread Alan Pope 🍺🐧🐱 🦄
Public bug reported:

Running KDE 5.24.4 on Ubuntu Jammy. On a few occasions, I've been able
to trigger a complete desktop crash by pressing and holding the volume
keys on my laptop.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Have something play audio - typically youtube in a browser
2) Hold down Fn+F3 or Fn+F2 to increase/decrease volume.

Crash.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1922414] Re: ssh-agent fails to start (has_option: command not found)

2022-09-01 Thread Boris Steiner
This issue is caused by lightdm running /usr/sbin/lightdm-session
instead of /etc/X11/Xsession.

The simplest workaround for me was:
- introduce has_option functon as 1st step in Xsession.d sourced scripts
- as root create file /etc/X11/Xsession.d/01custom-has-option with following
content:

#check if has_option is already defined; if not, define

has_option 2>1 > /dev/null || has_option() {
  # Ensure that a later no-foo overrides an earlier foo
  if [ "$(echo "$OPTIONS" | grep -Eo "^(no-)?$1\>" | tail -n 1)" = "$1" ]; then
return 0
  else
return 1
  fi
}

- logout and login

Details:
- /etc/X11/Xsession introduces has_option shell function that check if
Xsession.options contains predefined option
- /etc/X11/Xsession sources all files under /etc/X11/Xsession.d in alphabetic
order
- as the scripts are sourced they maintain the same environemnt and definitions
of variables or functions as Xsession
- however, lightdm uses lightdm-session that also sources /etc/X11/Xsession.d/*
BUT does NOT define has_option function
- provided script checks if the function has_option already exists (Xsession is
in play) and if not (lightdm-session's game) it defines it the same way as is
in /etc/X11/Xsession

Alternative solutions:
- modify lightdm-session to contain has_option the same way as /etc/X11/Xsession
- modify (create) /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf containing:
[Seat:*]
session-wrapper=/etc/X11/Xsession

- requires reboot; it did not work ok for 100% as my .profile env vars
were not correctly propagated

Screencast from 08-15-2022 02:31:51 PM.webm

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML,
like Gecko) Chrome/104.0.5112.79 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

In the snap on Ubuntu 22.04.1, I tried to save a file by right clicking
-> "Save As".

FF version 103.0.2, Mozilla Firefox Snap for Ubuntu, canonical-002 1.0

Actual results:

Then the normal pop up appears, with the suggested title highlighted but
keyboard strokes do not change the highlighted default name. However, If
I click the top bar of that window, then keystrokes will change the
highlighted name.

Expected results:

The highlighted default name should change upon keystrokes immediately
after seeing the "Save As" pop up. I should not have to click the top
bar of the window (not intuitive).

I just tested the Chromium snap as well (Chromium Version 104.0.5112.79
(Official Build) snap (64-bit)) and it has the exact same problem. So
this may not be a FF issue but maybe a gnome-shell one?

I downloaded the 103.0.2 tarball from https://www.mozilla.org/en-

default name would change immediately upon keystrokes. So no, it is only
an issue in the snap.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1958019]

2022-09-01 Thread xing
I am on HP EliteBook 865 16 inch G9 (amd 6850h) with alc245 Cirrus Logic
CS35L41 on Fedora 37 (rawhide) with 6.0rc3 kernel and still got issues
of low volume sound (CS35L41 amp not active) where the volume is 1/4 of
that of windows11 and fidelity is horrible if cranked above 100%.

Even got the following dmesg error from cs35l41 driver.

[  407.695559] cs35l41-hda i2c-CSC3551:00-cs35l41-hda.0: DSP1: Failed to
read 4 bytes from 28007e8: -121

Here is my machine and sound hw/config:

http://alsa-project.org/db/?f=6a7039fe66fc4310f82de9f4a933268ba34d9382

Do I have similar if not identical issue as the ALC287 here? Thanks.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1958019]

2022-09-01 Thread cristina223
Created attachment 301613
attachment-19333-0.html

For people with exact Yoga 9 14IAP7 machine is not necessary to include
/etc/modprobe.d/snd.conf. The module is in the new kernel.
For those with different machine that want to try it, can use the snd.conf
at first then if you want to have the mic working you might have to patch
the kernel with your machine model.
I have an example of patch in my github
https://github.com/322sirc/linux-16IAP7/blob/main/0007-ALSA-hda-realtek-Add-quirk-for-Yoga-devices.patch

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1958019]

2022-09-01 Thread stevea12345
I don't see that result for Yoga 9 14IAP7. Speakers don't work properly
without both modprobe lines. Microphone input ceased to work whenever
"options snd_intel_dspcfg dsp_driver=1" modprobe is applied:

I tested the 4 possible cases:

1:
/etc/modprobe.d/snd.conf:
  options snd_intel_dspcfg dsp_driver=1
  options snd_hda_intel model=alc287-yoga9-bass-spk-pin
Speakers: normal (bass & volume)
Microphone: none
http://alsa-project.org/db/?f=0046e5dd537e34323abbc4c75774881f7d846433

2:
/etc/modprobe.d/snd.conf:
  # no modprobe
Speakers: bad (no bass, low volume)
Microphone: works
http://alsa-project.org/db/?f=cb2fc1d8681f00d5567fc348236dec17e50d710c

3:
/etc/modprobe.d/snd.conf:
  options snd_hda_intel model=alc287-yoga9-bass-spk-pin
Speakers: bad (no bass, low volume)
Microphone: works
http://alsa-project.org/db/?f=3962d43a920565850cbc11f58884b3056a8b2fe3

4:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1958019]

2022-09-01 Thread perex
Remove 'options snd_intel_dspcfg dsp_driver=1' and replace the second
options line as 'options snd-sof-intel-hda-common
hda_model=alc287-yoga9-bass-spk-pin' to get the full (including
microphone) support.

I have Yoga 9 14IAP7, running 5.19.2 kernel w the patch and modprobe;
$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/snd.conf
options snd_intel_dspcfg dsp_driver=1
options snd_hda_intel model=alc287-yoga9-bass-spk-pin

This does fix the speaker out (volume/amp & bass) however the microphone input
is no longer available.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1958019]

2022-09-01 Thread cristina223
Philipp Jungkamp's patch is already module in the new kernel release candidate
linux-6.0-rc1.
For those who want to try it just compile the new kernel without patch and add
in
/etc/modprobe.d/snd.conf

# use snd_hda_intel instead of snd_sof
options snd_intel_dspcfg dsp_driver=1

# enable the fixup
options snd_hda_intel model=alc287-yoga9-bass-spk-pin

Thank you and Congrats!

Bug description:
  New timezone data, with the following timezones impacted:
  - Chile will spring forward on 2022-09-11, not 2022-09-04 (America/Santiago)
  - Iran no longer observes DST (Asia/Tehran)

  Verification is done with 'zdump'. The first timezone that gets
  changed in the updated package is dumped with 'zdump -v
  $region/$timezone_that_changed' (this needs to be greped for in
  /usr/share/zoneinfo/). [For example: 'zdump -v Asia/Gaza'.] This is
  compared to the same output after the updated package got installed.
  If those are different the verification is considered done.

  [Test Case for all releases]
  1) zdump -v America/Santiago | grep 'Sep.*2022'
-> should indicate Sep 11, not Sep 4
  2) zdump -v Asia/Tehran | tail
-> last dates should be in 2022, not in 2499

  [Test Case for releases >= 20.04 LTS]

  For releases with ICU timezone data verification is done using the following
with dates before and after the change:
  1) sudo apt-get install python3-icu
  2) Run the following python script:

  from datetime import datetime
  from icu import ICUtzinfo, TimeZone
  tz = ICUtzinfo(TimeZone.createTimeZone("America/Santiago"))
  always_before = datetime(2022, 9, 1)
  now_before = datetime(2022, 9, 8)
  always_after = datetime(2022, 9, 12)
  assert(tz.utcoffset(always_before) == tz.utcoffset(now_before))
  assert(tz.utcoffset(now_before) != tz.utcoffset(always_after))

  Thanks

  Jason

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1974265]

2022-09-01 Thread Redi
Maybe a dup of PR 104435

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1974265

Title:
  `demangle_const` causes infinite recursion and stack overflow

Status in binutils:
  New
Status in binutils package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Original Post: `https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=105115`

  The bug is similar to CVE-2021-3530, which was reported here:
  `https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/binutils/+bug/1925348`.

  Commit: `e84412c6a3c3eed1a4eca5fe18f329bfa7efea40` at
  `https://github.com/bminor/binutils-gdb`.

  The simplified PoC:

  $ echo _RYAbB2_ | ./binutils/cxxfilt
  Segmentation fault

  Root Cause Analysis:

  1. In `rust_demangle_callback`, "_R" at beginning causes `rdm.version
  == 0`[1][2], so `demangle_path` in the else-branch is called[3] with
  `rdm.sym == "YAbB2_"`, with `rdm.next` field initialized to 0.

  2. Next char 'Y' causes `demangle_type` to be called[4] in a switch-
  case branch, with `rdm.next == 1`.

  3. Next char 'A' causes `demangle_type` to be called first[5] to
  consume char 'b', then `demangle_const` is called[6] with `rdm.next ==
  3`.

  4. Next char 'B' is consumed[7], and "2_" is parsed as `integer_62`[8]
  to be value 3, and this vlaue is assigned to `rdm.next`, then
  `demangle_const` is called recursively[9]. However, currently the
  situation is `rdm.next == 3` again, which is exactly same as last call
  to `demangle_const`, and this causes infinite recursion.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1972654] Re: [security review] Sync policykit-1 0.120-6 (main) from Debian experimental

2022-09-01 Thread Simon McVittie
As of version 121+compat0.1-1, the relationship between packages has
changed to this:

* polkitd always requires polkitd-javascript and duktape, and always
interprets JavaScript policies

* polkitd-pkla is now an optional addon (the upstream polkit-pkla-compat
project, as shipped in e.g. Fedora) which evaluates legacy .pkla files
and reports their results via a JavaScript policy

polkitd currently Suggests polkitd-pkla, but this might change to either
a stronger or weaker dependency.

> Get Debian to transition all packages in the archive from PKLA policy
files to JS policy files

I've reported bugs which are collected in .

I do not intend to take further action to modify those packages. If it
is a blocker for Ubuntu that they are fixed, then someone from Ubuntu
will need to do that work.

Bug description:
  Please sync policykit-1 0.120-6 (main) from Debian experimental

  Changelog entries since current kinetic version 0.105-33:
  https://tracker.debian.org/media/packages/p/policykit-1/changelog-0.120-6

  In particular, see the 0.120-4 changelog entry.

  I am filing a bug for Security Team review.
  Previously, Debian and Ubuntu developers agreed to keep using
  the last version of policykit before it switched to using JavaScript rules.

  But that was years ago. I believe Debian & Ubuntu are the only distros
  to have opted out of the new policykit. It is harder to maintain
  the old style rules when upstream rules use the new format. And it is
  a challenge to backport security and other bugfixes from the new
  series, without making mistakes or missing important details.

  There was a proposal to use duktape instead of mozjs for the JavaScript
  interpreter but I don't think that's been merged yet.

  It appears the Debian maintainer is considering switching Debian to the
  updated version in time for the next Debian Stable release (so uploading
  to unstable later this year).

  My requested deadline is August 25, Ubuntu 22.10 Feature Freeze.

Bug description:
  Running Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS. Evolution v3.44.1-0ubuntu1
  was installed with the distribution on a new system and received
  settings imported from an earlier version on another computer.

  When composing an email, if the process takes long enough an autosave
  file is created as ~/.local/share/evolution/.evolution-
  composer.autosave-xx ("xx" is a random 6 character string).
  When the email is successfully sent, the autosave file SHOULD be
  deleted. It's not. When evolution is shut down and restarted I'm asked
  if I want to recover an unfinished email. Answering No to this will
  delete the autosave file, but otherwise it persists and the recovery
  query recurs the next time I open evolution.

  Other people are having the same issue, see
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution/-/issues/1972. The Gnome
  people aren't dealing with it, perhaps considering it a distro-
  specific bug.

  On a system used by many people this is a potential security issue.

  Update gdb to the final 12.1 release in 22.04 LTS. jammy ships with
  the gdb 12.1 release candidate, taken from the gdb-12 branch. Changes
  up to the final release are:

   - updated gnulib library
   - Fix for PR mi/29002 (Windows only)
   - gdb: fix 'remote show FOO-packet' aliases
   - various testsuite fixes
   - fixing compiler warnings
   - Fix bug in Ada number lexing
   - Remove "Ada Settings" node from the manual
   - Handle TLS variable lookups when using separate debug files.
   - PR 28980: gdb: don't copy entirely optimized out values in value_copy
   - gdb/mi: fix use after free of frame_info causing spurious notifications

  Comparing the test results between the two builds doesn't show any
  regression on any architecture.

  Also tested with a test rebuild of main, see LP: #1970233.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1988418] Re: Please merge initramfs-tools 0.142 from Debian unstable.

2022-09-01 Thread Dave Jones
I would caution that there are some substantial changes in this merge.
Specifically:

* upstream has now moved to zstd by default (as in Ubuntu) resulting in
several bits of the delta changing

* upstream re-wrote a fair amount of logic around the "ip=" init
parameter; this is an area we already had a substantial delta which also
needed re-writing as a result

* upstream also added configuration for the compression level of the
initramfs which required our delta to change

Please do not attempt to review the debdiff; at nearly 300KB it would be
pointless. The git range-diff is far more informative, but may need a
larger --creation-factor to make the most of it (100 is a reasonable
choice).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1981807] Re: qt5-network openssl3 armhf does not support tls1.3

Title:
  qt5-network openssl3 armhf does not support tls1.3

Status in qtbase-opensource-src package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in qtbase-opensource-src source package in Jammy:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  Qt 5 Network library does not use TLS 1.3 on armhf, and falls back to
  less secure protocols.

  [Test Plan]

  1. Create test.cpp with the following contents:

  #include
  #include
  #include
  #include

  int main(int argc, char **argv) {
  QCoreApplication app(argc, argv);
  QSslSocket s;
  QSslConfiguration cfg = s.sslConfiguration();
  cfg.setProtocol(QSsl::TlsV1_3OrLater);
  s.setSslConfiguration(cfg);
  s.connectToHostEncrypted("www.ubuntu.com", 443);
  s.waitForConnected();
  qDebug() << s.sessionProtocol();
  return 0;
  }

  2. Create test.pro with the following contents:

  CONFIG += debug warn_all
  QT = core network
  SOURCES = test.cpp

  3. Install qtbase5-dev package.

  4. Compile using `qmake && make`.

  5. Run the generated ./test executable. It should print 15, not -1.

  [Where problems could occur]

  It is unlikely to cause issues on 64-bit platforms because long and
  uint64_t are both 64 bits long. On armhf potential problems may be
  related to availability of other protocols.

  [Original Description]

  lsb_release
  Description:Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
  Release:22.04

  libqt5network5/jammy,now 5.15.3+dfsg-2 armhf
  libssl3/jammy-updates,jammy-security,now 3.0.2-0ubuntu1.6 armhf

  the qt5 armhf version shipped with ubuntu jammy has a regression in
  tls1.3 support (simply missing in runtime).

  openssl supports tls1.3, so the underlying library works.
  x86_64 is obviously not affected
  the short sample applications writes -1 on armhf, 15 on x86_64 (unknown
protocol vs tls1.3)

  QSslSocket* s = new QSslSocket();
  QSslConfiguration cfg = s->sslConfiguration();
  cfg.setProtocol(QSsl::TlsV1_3OrLater);
  s->setSslConfiguration(cfg);
  s->connectToHostEncrypted("tls13-enabled.server",443);
  s->waitForConnected();
  printf("%d\n",s->sessionProtocol());

  marking it as security since the most secure tls protocol is not used
  on some platforms

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1988418] Re: Please merge initramfs-tools 0.142 from Debian unstable.

2022-09-01 Thread Dave Jones
Attaching patch against Debian unstable. For ease of review, relevant commits
and tags have been pushed to the following repository:

https://code.launchpad.net/~waveform/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-
tools/+git/initramfs-tools

Specifically:

* logical/0.140ubuntu17 represents our split-out delta on top of old/debian
(0.140)
* logical/0.142ubuntu1 represents our rebased delta on top of new/debian (0.142)
* merge/0.142ubuntu1 adds changelog and maintainer changes, and one post-merge
change on top of logical/0.142ubuntu1

Hence, the following command may produce output useful to the purposes
of review:

git range-diff old/debian..logical/0.140ubuntu17
new/debian..logical/0.142ubuntu1

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1988438] [NEW] Xorg crash

2022-09-01 Thread Steve Karg
Public bug reported:

Crashes X11 back to login screen typically when running the browser.

I refurbish old laptops, and this older HP Pavilion dvb Core Duo with
Intel graphics is probably no longer supported by Mesa 22 from the
searching of the core problems that I did.

Please consider some option for those of us that want to prevent these
older but like-new machines from ending up in a landfill. We still want
a modern up to date secure Gnome2 experience from Ubuntu.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1971932] Re: error in rsync protocol data stream

2022-09-01 Thread Paride Legovini
Looks like there' also an openSUSE bug about this issue:

https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1175854

As I understand it the culprit is the old rsync (3.1.3). Upstream
suggests recompiling it with -with-included-zlib=yes, which I doubt
we're going to do, especially in stable releases. The openSUSE bug has
an attached patch for rsync 3.1.3:

https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=853856&action=diff

If confirmed working we could SRU this fix to Focal (rsync 3.1.3) and
maybe Bionic (rsync 3.1.2), but first we need one of the affected users
to verify that the patch works, as as we're unable to reproduce the bug
at the moment.

  Synchronisation runs fine for most other files, but always stops at

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1988119] Re: systemd-udevd: Run net_setup_link on 'change' uevents to prevent DNS outages on Azure

2022-09-01 Thread Ihor Indyk
Thank to Microsoft for fixing the issue on all AKS clusters.
But for the history we fixed that by just cordoning and then draining all
cordoned nodes.
It effectively gracefully rotates the node pools.

Title:
  systemd-udevd: Run net_setup_link on 'change' uevents to prevent DNS
  outages on Azure

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in systemd source package in Bionic:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  A widespread outage was caused on Azure instances earlier today, when
  systemd 237-3ubuntu10.54 was published to the bionic-security pocket.
  Instances could no longer resolve DNS queries, breaking networking.

  For affected users, the following workarounds are available. Use whatever is
most convenient.
  - Reboot your instances
  - or -
  - Issue "udevadm trigger -cadd -yeth0 && systemctl restart systemd-networkd"
as root

  The trigger was found to be open-vm-tools issuing "udevadm trigger".
  Azure has a specific netplan setup that uses the `driver` match to set
  up networking. If a udevadm trigger is executed, the KV pair that
  contains this info is lost. Next time netplan is executed, the server
  loses it's DNS information.

  This is the same as bug 1902960 experienced on Focal two years ago.

  The root cause was found to be a bug in systemd, where if we receive a
  "Remove" action from a change uevent, we need to run net_setup_link(),
  we need to skip device rename and keep the old name.

  [Testcase]

  Start an instance up on Azure, any type. Simply issue udevadm trigger
  and reload systemd-networkd:

  $ ping google.com
  PING google.com (172.253.62.102) 56(84) bytes of data.
  64 bytes from bc-in-f102.1e100.net (172.253.62.102): icmp_seq=1 ttl=56
time=1.85 ms
  $ sudo udevadm trigger && sudo systemctl restart systemd-networkd
  $ ping google.com
  ping: google.com: Temporary failure in name resolution

  To fix a broken instance, you can run:

  $ sudo udevadm trigger -cadd -yeth0 && sudo systemctl restart systemd-
  networkd

  and then install the test packages below:

  Test packages are available in the following ppa:

  https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf343528-test

  If you install them, the issue should no longer occur.

  [Where problems could occur]

  If a regression were to occur, it would affect systemd-udevd
  processing 'change' events from network devices, which could lead to
  network outages. Since this would happen when systemd-networkd is
  restarted on postinstall, a regression would cause widespread outages
  due to this SRU being targeted to the security pocket, where
  unattended-upgrades will automatically install from.

  Side effects could include incorrect udevd device properties.

  It is very important that this SRU is well tested before release.

  [Other info]

  This was fixed in Systemd 247 with the following commit:

  commit e0e789c1e97e2cdf1cafe0c6b7d7e43fa054f151
  Author: Yu Watanabe
  Date: Mon, 14 Sep 2020 15:21:04 +0900
  Subject: udev: re-assign ID_NET_DRIVER=, ID_NET_LINK_FILE=, ID_NET_NAME=
properties on non-'add' uevent
  Link:
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/e0e789c1e97e2cdf1cafe0c6b7d7e43fa054f151

  This was backported to Focal's systemd 245.4-4ubuntu3.4 in bug 1902960
  two years ago. Focal required a heavy backport, which was performed by
  Dan Streetman. Focals backport can be found in d/p/lp1902960-udev-re-
  assign-ID_NET_DRIVER-ID_NET_LINK_FILE-ID_NET.patch, or the below
  pastebin:

  https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/K5k7bGt3Wx/

  The changes between the Focal backport and the Bionic backport are:

  - We use udev_device_get_action() instead of device_get_action()
  - device_action_from_string() is used to get to enum DeviceAction
  - We return 0 from the "if (a == DEVICE_ACTION_MOVE) " hunk instead of "goto
no_rename"
  - log_device_* has been changed to log_*.

  See attached debdiff for Bionic backport.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1958055] Re: sudo apport-kde is in a different design (stripped XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP)

2022-09-01 Thread Robie Basak
Is there any possibility that passing through this environment variable
when we previously did not will change behaviour in such a way that a
user treats that as a regression? For example, if some user has a
setting that causes some app to now break, when it didn't before?

Your upload changes the mode of debian/source_sudo.py. I presume this is
a mistake?

Title:
  sudo apport-kde is in a different design (stripped
  XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP)

Status in sudo package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in sudo source package in Jammy:
  New

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  Running ubuntu-bug as normal user has the correct theme (see
  screenshots attached to bug #1881640), but running "sudo ubuntu-bug"
  has a different, non-matching theme (see attached screenshot). This
  applies to all Qt applications.

  [Test Plan]

  This problem can be reproduce by running a KDE application on Ubuntu
  Desktop (GNOME):

  1. Launch ubuntu-22.04-desktop-amd64.iso
  2. Install apport-kde
  3. Run: /usr/share/apport/apport-kde -f
  4. Run: sudo /usr/share/apport/apport-kde -f
  5. Compare both windows. They have different icons and font size.

  Same result with KDE:

  1. Use kubuntu-22.04-desktop-amd64.iso
  2. Run ubuntu-bug -f
  3. Run: sudo ubuntu-bug -f

  [Where problems could occur]
  Passing through an additional environment variable could lead to an undesired
side effect (if an application expect it not be be set when run as root). Since
this environment variable changes the code paths, it could reveal Qt bugs
related to running as root.

  [Analysis]

  Qt needs XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP to be set to determine the correct theme,
  but XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP is not in the list of environment variables to
  preserve (and not in env_keep in /etc/sudoers).

  On other other hand, sudo preserves the DISPLAY environment variable:

  $ sudo env | grep -Ev '^(LC|LS|SUDO|LANG|COLOR|TERM|PATH)'
  XAUTHORITY=/run/user/1000/gdm/Xauthority
  DISPLAY=:0
  MAIL=/var/mail/root
  LOGNAME=root
  USER=root
  HOME=/root
  SHELL=/bin/bash

  [Workaround]

  Prevent sudo from dropping XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP by running: sudo
  XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=$XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP /usr/share/apport/apport-kde
  -f

  $ sudo env | grep -Ev '^(LC|LS|SUDO|LANG|COLOR|TERM|PATH)'
  XAUTHORITY=/run/user/1000/gdm/Xauthority
  DISPLAY=:0
  MAIL=/var/mail/root
  LOGNAME=root
  USER=root
  HOME=/root
  SHELL=/bin/bash

  [Workaround]

  Prevent sudo from dropping XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP by running: sudo
  XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=$XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP /usr/share/apport/apport-kde
  -f

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1937110] Re: dhcp option 121 & 249

  dhcp option 121 & 249

Status in subiquity:
  New
Status in isc-dhcp package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in isc-dhcp source package in Jammy:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Hello,

  I'm running into issues with subiquity on a cloud provider. The cloud
  provider is using an on-link L3 gateway.

  His DHCP response looks like this:

  OPTION:  53 (  1) DHCP message type 5 (DHCPACK)
  OPTION:  54 (  4) Server identifier 172.31.1.1
  OPTION:  51 (  4) IP address leasetime  86400 (24h)
  OPTION:   1 (  4) Subnet mask   255.255.255.255
  OPTION:   3 (  4) Routers   172.31.1.1
  OPTION:   6 ( 12) DNS server
  OPTION: 121 ( 14) Classless Static Route20ac1f010100  ...
ac1f0101 ..
  OPTION: 249 ( 14) MSFT - Classless route20ac1f010100  ...
ac1f0101 ..

  Im booting the subiquity process with an patched ipxe
(https://github.com/ipxe/ipxe/pull/104) like this:

  #!ipxe
  kernel .../vmlinuz initrd=initrd root=/dev/ram0 ramdisk_size=150 ip=dhcp
url=https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/focal/daily-live/current/focal-live-server-amd64.iso
 autoinstall ds=nocloud-net;s=.../...-ad-78/ cloud-config-url=/dev/null
  initrd .../initrd
  boot

  initrd/vmlinuz is extracted right out of focal-live-server-amd64.iso

  Sadly subiquity is stuck with a broken network (because of missing
  dhcp option 121/249 support). It happens when its running the /init
  from the kernel right after kernel is booted, i guess even before the
  subiquity is started(?).

  After further debugging, it looks like the provided kernel 5.4.80 #90
  Ubuntu, is using busybox 1.30.1-4ubuntu~6.3 which includes isc-
  dhclient-4.4.1 which is lacking the given options.

  Would be awesome if this could be fixed.. maybe just a simple busybox compile
option?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1988408] Re: bluetooth gaming controller

2022-09-01 Thread Pedro Daniel Vieira Rosado
If this provides help of some sort,
The BT game controller is defined as N1-9013 (similar to ipega) and works at
2.4 BT frequency.

The BT dongle is an Asus USB-BT400. As for the laptop, the dongle used
was the same but I can also post the BT integrated device of the laptop
(laptop works fine with the controller on windows for both the usb
dongle or the integrated BT device).

If it serves any purpose, I can post the laptop data as well.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1971474] Re: SRU: Update gdb to the final 12.1 release in 22.04 LTS

2022-09-01 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Matthias, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gdb into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdb/12.1-0ubuntu1~22.04 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

** Changed in: gdb (Ubuntu Jammy)
   Status: Confirmed => Fix Committed

** Tags added: verification-needed verification-needed-jammy

Bug description:

As part of the verification, please perform some general dogfooding of
the gdb package from focal-proposed (trying it out in a few random

  [UBUNTU 22.04] BINUTILS: Adding new platform name IBM z16

Status in Ubuntu on IBM z Systems:
  Fix Committed
Status in binutils package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in binutils source package in Jammy:
  Fix Committed
Status in binutils source package in Kinetic:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  SRU Justification:
  ==

  [Impact]

   * As of today the architectural (level) name 'arch14' is used
 as CPU name for the new IBM z16 system.

   * The real name 'z16' couldn't be used until officially announced.

   * That happened meanwhile, hence we can now add and use the real
  name.

  [Test Plan]

   * Check if the same (proper) opcodes are detected on an IBM z16
 system with and without the patch.
 Since only the identification and name of a z16 system was modified.

   * Or the simplest test is probably to check
 (after having 'binutils' installed on an Ubuntu 22.04 s390x system)
 if not only:
 'as -m64 -march=arch14 --target-help'
 but also:
 'as -m64 -march=z16 --target-help'
 succeeds and leads to the same output.
 (As it does for '-march=arch13' and '-march=arch15'.)

  [Where problems could occur]

   * Issues could happen if the conditional statement that look
 for architectural / CPU name are paired wrongly, since:

   * 'z16' belongs to 'arch14', 'z15' to 'arch13', etc.

   * If these pairs are not handled correctly,
 or the identification is erroneous
 a wrong system might be identified and wrong instructions used etc.

  [Other]

   * This is a hardware enablement SRU to enhance the IBM z16 support.

  __

  After the announcement support for the official machine name z16 has
  been added to binutils. Please consider picking up the following patch
  from 2.37 branch:

  commit e24d2a2d11008aa363366c1087219f3e3405782a
  (origin/binutils-2_37-branch, 2.37)

  IBM zSystems: Add support for z16 as CPU name.

  So far z16 was identified as arch14. After the machine has been
  announced we can now add the real name.

  (cherry picked from commit 69341966def7f6551bc4452684136831d6a6941c)

Bug description:
  using 0.1-0~5~natty1 on mostly up to date natty system, when running
  the indicator-multiload with with just cpu monitor and the default
  update interval of 500 milliseconds, I see (via top) that compiz usage
  when generally idle goes from either 0 or 1% of CPU to 3 or 4% of CPU.
  Reducing the update interval does seem to have an affect.

  I realize that
  a.) top is not scientific
  b.) there could be something I'm missing here
  c.) saying "300%" (in the subject) is not scientific

Title:
  klist not showing tgt after reboot

Status in krb5 package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Hello,

  iam not sure if this is a bug, but iam noticed a different behaviour of
kinit/klist between Ubuntu 18.04 and 22.04
  I already talked to sam hartman who is maintainer of krb5 packages at debian
and he told that basically there is no difference between different version of
kinit/klist and one should dig in Ubuntu environment.
  Let me decribe the notice:

  We use kinit/klist/krb5 keytab as base for sssd and ssh access
  controlled by AD.

  In Ubuntu 18.04 LTS i could do:
  "kinit myprincipal" and created a valid tgt. This tgt was stable and survived
a reboot which can be viewed by "klist".
  I log in as unprivileged user, doing "sudo -i" and see:

  myhost: # klist
  Ticket cache: FILE:/tmp/krb5cc_27465975_uqBiyq

  File /tmp/krb5cc_27465975_uqBiyq is existent and owned by my unprivileged
username and group domainusers.
  Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is using 1.16-2ubuntu0.2 of krb5-user. i have to say, that
first login as unprivileged user is done by using ssh-keypair, so no sssd is
involved. But by using "sudo -i" sssd is used and worked like expected.

  Now we switched to Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, Version of krb5-user is 1.19.2-2
  Doing kinit myprincipal on 22.04 leads to:
  myhost: #  klist
  Ticket cache: FILE:/tmp/krb5cc_0

  File /tmp/krb5cc_0 is owned by root:root

  After reboot i can still login successful as unprivileged user make
  "sudo -i" and klist says:

  myhost: # klist
  klist: No credentials cache found (filename: /tmp/krb5cc_0

  File /tmp/krb5cc_0 is gone (deleted from unknown), but i see a file
/tmp/krb5cc_27465975_nGySkP which is owned by my unprivileged username and
group is domainusers.
   is this expected? It seems that newer klist always wants to use the default
name /tmp/krb5cc_0. It creates tgt with this name and tries to read this
filename. but after reboot file is recreated with different name and default
klist command fails. First login as unprivilged user was done with ssh-keypair
without sssd, but "sudo -i" uses sssd agin. Whole thing only works like in
18.04 if you dont use ssh-keypairs and do all logins by hand with manually
login, so sssd is forced to use in every step.

  What do you think? Is this a bug or wrong use? Behaviour of 18.04 was
  absolutely satisfying.

  Thanks,
  Hans

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1988144] Re: klist not showing tgt after reboot

2022-09-01 Thread Hajo Locke
Hello Sergio,

thanks for your help.

I can do that. I will explain a step by step procedure for my setup.
Also i attach a file with anonymised krb5.conf, realmd.conf and
sssd.conf

We have a ActiveDirectory Domain which is controlled by multiple
Domaincontrollers. We attach some of our Linuxserver to AD to control by
AD-Group who can access and sudo on this linuxmachines. In my conf files
the domain is simple called domain.de|DOMAIN.DE

- starting point is a fresh installed Ubuntu 18.04 or 22.04 LTS with a
lokal admin. this lokal admin is used to initiate the AD Connection.
Basically i followed this tutorial: https://schroeffu.ch/2019/09/linux-
active-directory-ldap-ssh-login-mit-sssd-und-realmd/

- Installation:
apt install realmd sssd sssd-tools samba-common krb5-user packagekit
samba-common-bin samba-libs adcli

- please see attached krb5.conf, realmd.conf

- now i get a tgt with kinit using my AD-Domainadmincredentials
kinit myusern...@domain.de

- joining Domain
realm --verbose join DOMAIN.DE -U myusern...@domain.de

- at this point we are part of domain and after domainsync every user in group
LinuxAdmins can login by ssh. making sudo is allowed by a config in
/etc/sudoers.d/ which contains
%LinuxAdmins ALL=(ALL:ALL) ALL

Now i use a unprivileged domainuser which is part of AD-group LinuxAdmins
For fast login i use a key-pair for this user to login as unprivileged user. So
i log in by ssh-keys and do a "sudo -i" to stay permanent root. Now sssd works
and checks my AD-Data/Passwort. iam allowed to do sudo and now iam root user.
klist now shows a valid tgt and klist -ekt shows valid KVNO, Timestamp and
Principal

Now i do the same on Ubuntu 22, all steps/configs identical except a line in
sssd.conf (see comment in first section) because services use other startup.
On ubuntu 22 i use my unprivilged user to login by ssh-keys then doing "sudo
-i" and klist says:
klist: No credentials cache found (filename: /tmp/krb5cc_0)
a file /tmp/krb5cc_0 is not existent but i see a file
/tmp/krb5cc_27465975_nGySkP which is owned by my unprivilged username but not
used by klist. May be the problem is in the sudo environment.

In Ubuntu 22 i see a valid tgt by klist only if i do every login by hand and
dont use a ssh key. but this was working in ubuntu 18 and i liked the way,
because i hop on a lot of servers every day and first login by ssh-key is very
comfy.
May be this is only a small bug in this particular case, but i want to make
sure that my services still work after some time, because the existing keytab
can used for other purposes like authentication by apache-webserver too and i
dont want them to be harmed by this issue.

Thanks for your help,
Hans
