  arm64: broken c++ exception handler support leads to std::terminate()

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  On architectures other than i386 and amd64, the C++ exception support
  in libunwind appears to be broken, always failing and calling
  std::terminate() which leads to the program aborting.

  #10 0xf7fb9f50 in function_throws_int () at lib.cpp:9
  #11 0x0d54 in main (argc=1, argv=0xfab8) at main.cpp:9

  Compiling libunwind with --enable-cxx-exceptions enabled leads to
  _Unwind_RaiseException being called during __cxa_throw(), which fails
  to find a handler, and the generic std::terminate() is called instead,
  aborting the program.

  On i386 and amd64 this doesn't seem to be the case, and the libunwind
  handlers seem to be present.

  To fix, we only enable the configure option --enable-cxx-exceptions on
  i386 and amd64 only, in debian/rules. This lets other architectures
  fall back to the symbols provided by libgcc_s, which implementation
  works correctly.

  [Testcase]

  Ali Sadi has provided a reproducer program.

  Start an arm64 instance, for example, a c6g.medium instance on AWS,
  with either Bionic or Focal.

  $ wget
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libunwind/+bug/1999104/+attachment/5635122/+files/libunwind.tar.gz
  $ sudo apt install -y build-essential libunwind-dev
  $ tar xvf libunwind.tar.gz && cd test
  $ make all

  There are two executable, main and main_unwind. main is not linked to
  libunwind, and main_unwind is linked to libunwind.

  $ ./main
  int throws lib
  int caught main
  $ ./main_unwind
  terminate called after throwing an instance of 'int'
  terminate called recursively
  Aborted (core dumped)

  If you install the test package available in the following ppa:

  https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf350246-test

  $ make clean
  $ sudo apt install -y libunwind-dev
  $ make all
  $ ./main

  lima driver is missing from riscv64, but in order to enable it we need
  to disable anything that uses JIT on riscv64: swrast for vulkan, and
  draw-use-llvm for gallium.

  JIT for riscv64 is buggy and should be fixed in a future llvm release.

  [Test case]

  Check that sun4i-drm_dri.so is in libgl1-mesa-dri deb for riscv64, and
  that it works.

  [Where things could go wrong]

  This is a new driver for the architecture, so there's little chance of
  breakage.

  --

  "sun4i-drm_dri.so" is needed for some RISC-V platforms such as the
  Allwinner D1. This file is missing from the riscv64 packages, but
  present on others. This affects (at least) 20.04 and 22.04.

  [Where things could go wrong]

  It's possible that some apps (like games) might regress on some hw,
  but there should not be a big risk for more wider bugs appearing in
  this update, since upstream and vendor (Intel) CI machinery have
  tested these.

  modemmanager in 22.04.

  * Test case

  - install modemmanager, libmbim, and libqmi from -proposed
  - reboot and try WWAN function to see if any regression there.
  - perform dogfooding of its reverse dependencies (network-
     manager, gnome-control-center etc.)

  The verification should be done on FM350 to ensure it's correctly
  handled but also on other hardware to verify that there are no
  regressions

  * Regression potential

  The SRU does an update to new modemmanager serie so we should do a
  complete round of testing on different hardware and confirm there are
  no regression.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1944453] Re: PDF documents signed with DocuSign show the error message "The document contains no pages"

2022-12-16 Thread brandon
20.04.5 has evince 3.36.10. Opening a doc signed with docusign fails
in this version of evince, but google chrome opens it fine. The error is
"PDF document is damaged"

don't know if this will help but there it is. If anyone wants the pdf
causing the error, let me know.

Addionally ... if this helps anyone ...

# /usr/bin/evince --version
GNOME Document Viewer 3.36.10

# sudo snap install evince
# /snap/bin/evince --version
GNOME Document Viewer 42.3

The snap version opens the PDF just fine, the apt version doesn't ...
that is all ...

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1986521] Re: ssh client spins if output fd closed

2022-12-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
I've verified the test case as written. I reproduced the issue, enabled
the -proposed package and did apt-get full-upgrade to pull in the new
openssh from -proposed. The CPU usage dropped from 100% to <1% as soon
as the operation concluded.

Title:
  ssh client spins if output fd closed

Status in portable OpenSSH:

Status in openssh package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in openssh source package in Jammy:

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  In certain edge cases where the terminal goes away while an ssh process is
running, ssh can be left consuming 100% CPU. This increases processing costs
for cloud users and wastes energy. While this is an uncommon error, googling
indicates many people have run into it in several different ways. It seems
important to get this fixed in stable releases.

  This is a regression in jammy presumably due to change from select()
  to poll() (see OpennSSH 8.9 Release Announcement [1] ), fixed by
  upstream commit d6556de1db0822c76ba2745cf5c097d9472adf7c "upstream:
  fix poll() spin when a channel's output fd closes..." [2].

  1: https://lwn.net/Articles/885886/
  2.
https://github.com/openssh/openssh-portable/commit/d6556de1db0822c76ba2745cf5c097d9472adf7c

  [Test Case]
  $ lxc launch ubuntu-daily:jammy ssh-cpu
  $ lxc shell ssh-cpu

  # passwd -d root
  # ssh-keygen -t rsa -N '' -f /root/.ssh/id_rsa

  # cat << EOF >>/etc/ssh/ssh_config
  StrictHostKeyChecking accept-new
  EOF

  # sed -ri 's/^PasswordAuthentication/#PasswordAuthentication/'
/etc/ssh/sshd_config
  # cat << EOF >>/etc/ssh/sshd_config
  PermitRootLogin yes
  PubkeyAuthentication yes
  PermitEmptyPasswords yes
  PasswordAuthentication yes
  ChallengeResponseAuthentication no
  UsePAM no
  EOF

  # systemctl restart sshd

  # ssh localhost 2> >({exec 1>&2})

  You can shell into the container from a second terminal and use "htop"
  to verify that ssh is using 100% of one of the CPU cores:

  $ lxc shell ssh-cpu
  # htop

  This should show one CPU pegged at 100% due to the 'ssh localhost'
  process

  Next, return to the first terminal, exit out of the sub-ssh session and
  install the fix:

  # logout
  # add-apt-repository -yus ppa:bryce/openssh-sru-lp1986521
  # apt-get full-upgrade -y

  Now repeat the test in the first terminal window, while viewing htop in
  the second terminal:

  # ssh localhost 2> >({exec 1>&2})

  [Where Problems Could Occur]

  While the patch in question is well tested upstream, it has a
  relatively high line count and as such is difficult to assure
  correctness by visual code checking. However, it's not clear that the
  line count could be significantly reduced without risking loss of
  correctness. Thus this relies more on testing to assure robustness,
  than on code review.

  The code involves polling behavior, so issues to watch for would more
  likely involve process handling, i.e. problems with socket polling.

  Beyond that, the usual generic issues to watch for - build issues,
  dependency issues during build or on upgrade, and service restarting.

  [Original Report]
  The OpenSSH package 8.9p1 as shipped with U22.04 (8.9p1-3) suffers from the
bug described at
  https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3411 and
https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3405

  A command such as "xterm -e 'ssh -f remote.host sleep 60'" will pop up
  an xterm, ask for whatever authentication is needed, close the xterm,
  and leave the ssh client spinning consuming CPU time for 60 seconds
  before it exits. It should leave the ssh client idle for 60 seconds.
  Many uses of ssh to launch graphical applications will be caught by
  this bug.

  This is fixed in OpenSSH 9.0p1 as the first bugfix listed in its
  release notes at https://www.openssh.com/txt/release-9.0

  Compiling libunwind with --enable-cxx-exceptions enabled leads to
  _Unwind_RaiseException being called during __cxa_throw(), which fails
  to find a handler, and the generic std::terminate() is called instead,
  aborting the program.

  On i386 and amd64 this doesn't seem to be the case, and the libunwind
  handlers seem to be present.

  To fix, we only enable the configure option --enable-cxx-exceptions on
  i386 and amd64 only, in debian/rules. This lets other architectures
  fall back to the symbols provided by libgcc_s, which implementation
  works correctly.

  [Testcase]

  Ali Sadi has provided a reproducer program.

  Start an arm64 instance, for example, a c6g.medium instance on AWS,
  with either Bionic or Focal.

  $ wget
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libunwind/+bug/1999104/+attachment/5635122/+files/libunwind.tar.gz
  $ sudo apt install -y build-essential libunwind-dev
  $ tar xvf libunwind.tar.gz && cd test
  $ make all

  There are two executable, main and main_unwind. main is not linked to

Also tried folly (the dependency of mcrouter that was throwing the

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  On architectures other than i386 and amd64, the C++ exception support
  in libunwind appears to be broken, always failing and calling
  std::terminate() which leads to the program aborting.

  #10 0xf7fb9f50 in function_throws_int () at lib.cpp:9
  #11 0x0d54 in main (argc=1, argv=0xfab8) at main.cpp:9

  Compiling libunwind with --enable-cxx-exceptions enabled leads to
  _Unwind_RaiseException being called during __cxa_throw(), which fails
  to find a handler, and the generic std::terminate() is called instead,
  aborting the program.

  On i386 and amd64 this doesn't seem to be the case, and the libunwind
  handlers seem to be present.

  To fix, we only enable the configure option --enable-cxx-exceptions on
  i386 and amd64 only, in debian/rules. This lets other architectures
  fall back to the symbols provided by libgcc_s, which implementation
  works correctly.

  [Testcase]

  Ali Sadi has provided a reproducer program.

  Start an arm64 instance, for example, a c6g.medium instance on AWS,
  with either Bionic or Focal.

  $ wget
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libunwind/+bug/1999104/+attachment/5635122/+files/libunwind.tar.gz
  $ sudo apt install -y build-essential libunwind-dev
  $ tar xvf libunwind.tar.gz && cd test
  $ make all

  There are two executable, main and main_unwind. main is not linked to
  libunwind, and main_unwind is linked to libunwind.

  $ ./main
  int throws lib
  int caught main
  $ ./main_unwind
  terminate called after throwing an instance of 'int'
  terminate called recursively
  Aborted (core dumped)

  If you install the test package available in the following ppa:

  https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf350246-test

  $ make clean
  $ sudo apt install -y libunwind-dev
  $ make all
  $ ./main
  int throws lib
  int caught main
  $ ./main_unwind
  int throws lib
  int caught main

  The exception is caught as expected the program does not abort.

  Evince hangs when opening the printing dialog for some users with a
  remote printer configured and connected

  * Test case

  - configure a remote printer and turn it on
  - open a pdf
  - try to print the document

  the print dialog shouldn't freeze the viewer

  * What could go wrong

  The change is only allowing access to one extra system binary from the
  apparmor profile so shouldn't really have an impact on the software
  behaviour. If the syntax or content of the change was incorrect it
  could make the apparmor profile not been loaded anymore or block
  access to thing that should be allowed, so ensure that opening
  documents, printing and thumbnailing are still working

  It seems that evince has no rights to print if I understand this

  Printing the same pdf-file from the same origin/folder works with

  The error is reproduceable

This bug and bug #1996471 are about different problems.

Was a browser window opened with the message "Please wait while bug data
is processed. This page will refresh every 10 seconds until processing
is complete."? -> Then it's bug #1996471

Other can you share the screenshot of the hang?

  arm64: broken c++ exception handler support leads to std::terminate()

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  On architectures other than i386 and amd64, the C++ exception support
  in libunwind appears to be broken, always failing and calling
  std::terminate() which leads to the program aborting.

  #10 0xf7fb9f50 in function_throws_int () at lib.cpp:9
  #11 0x0d54 in main (argc=1, argv=0xfab8) at main.cpp:9

  Compiling libunwind with --enable-cxx-exceptions enabled leads to
  _Unwind_RaiseException being called during __cxa_throw(), which fails
  to find a handler, and the generic std::terminate() is called instead,
  aborting the program.

  On i386 and amd64 this doesn't seem to be the case, and the libunwind
  handlers seem to be present.

  To fix, we only enable the configure option --enable-cxx-exceptions on
  i386 and amd64 only, in debian/rules. This lets other architectures
  fall back to the symbols provided by libgcc_s, which implementation
  works correctly.

  [Testcase]

  Ali Sadi has provided a reproducer program.

  Start an arm64 instance, for example, a c6g.medium instance on AWS,
  with either Bionic or Focal.

  $ wget
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libunwind/+bug/1999104/+attachment/5635122/+files/libunwind.tar.gz
  $ sudo apt install -y build-essential libunwind-dev
  $ tar xvf libunwind.tar.gz && cd test
  $ make all

  There are two executable, main and main_unwind. main is not linked to
  libunwind, and main_unwind is linked to libunwind.

  $ ./main
  int throws lib
  int caught main
  $ ./main_unwind
  terminate called after throwing an instance of 'int'
  terminate called recursively
  Aborted (core dumped)

  If you install the test package available in the following ppa:

  https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf350246-test

  $ make clean
  $ sudo apt install -y libunwind-dev
  $ make all
  $ ./main
  int throws lib
  int caught main
  $ ./main_unwind
  int throws lib
  int caught main

  The exception is caught as expected the program does not abort.

  [Where problems could occur]

  For architectures other than i386 and amd64, we are changing from
  libunwind provided exception handlers for __cxa_throw(), and using
  those provided by libgcc_s instead.

  There are a few reverse dependencies for libunwind-dev and libunwind8,
  which need to be considered:

  Fix Released

Bug description:
  build 83 rtm-proposed on krillin

  1) Run the gmail webapp and compose a new message
  2) The "To:" field has focus and the keyboard is showing (url layout with @
and .com key)
  3) Tap in "CC:" field

  Expected results:
  keyboard stays visible with same url layout

  Actual results:
  keyboard switches to normal layout, then switches to url layout, then
disappears

  4) Tap in the "Bcc:" field and no keyboard is shown, Tap back in To: or CC:
field and no keyboard is shown
  5) Tap in Subject field and keyboard shown in normal layout
  6) Now when switch to to, cc, or bc it works, but normal layout shown first
then changes to url layout

  Expected Result:
  - if new layout is same as existing layout it shouldnt' first switch back to
default layout
  - keyboard should not be disappearing

Bug description:
  When I install a corporate CA trust root with update-ca-certificates,
  it doesn't seem to work everywhere. Various things like Firefox,
  Evolution, Chrome, etc. all fail to trust the newly-installed trusted
  CA.

  This ought to work, and does on other distributions. In p11-kit there
  is a module p11-kit-trust.so which can be used as a drop-in
  replacement for NSS's own libnssckbi.so trust root module, but which
  reads from the system's configured trust setup instead of the hard-
  coded version.

  This allows us to install the corporate CAs just once, and then file a
  bug against any package that *doesn't* then trust them.

  See https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/SharedSystemCertificates
  for some of the historical details from when this feature was first
  implemented, but this is all now supported upstream and not at all
  distribution-specific. There shouldn't be any significant work
  required; it's mostly just a case of configuring and building it to
  make use of this functionality. (With 'alternatives' to let you
  substitute p11-kit-trust.so for the original NSS libnssckbi.so, etc.)

  Fibocom FM350 modems aren't working with the current version of

  * Test case

  - install modemmanager, libmbim, and libqmi from -proposed
  - reboot and try WWAN function to see if any regression there.
  - perform dogfooding of its reverse dependencies (network-
     manager, gnome-control-center etc.)

  The verification should be done on FM350 to ensure it's correctly
  handled but also on other hardware to verify that there are no
  regressions

  * Regression potential

  The SRU does an update to new modemmanager serie so we should do a
  complete round of testing on different hardware and confirm there are
  no regression.

   * Users cannot open a hyperlink in a PDF opened with evince when the default
browser is a snap.
   * The fix creates a snap_browsers abstraction on AppArmor which can be used
in a transition for when the browser is executed. The snap_browsers abstraction
provides the minimal amount of permissions required to execute a browser
provided through snaps. This is a workaround since AppArmor currently does not
provide mediation/filtering on enhanced environment variables.

  [Test Plan]

   * Make sure the default browser is provided through the snap store.
   * Open a PDF that contains a hyperlink using evince and click on the URL.
   * The browser should open the requested URL.

  [Where problems could occur]

   * If the browser or snap core update to have new requirements for
  opening a browser, then the current policy could become obsolete and
  will need to be updated again.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1991761] Re: Backport packages for 22.04.2 HWE stack

right, libkms got removed upstream so kms-steal-crtc and kms-universal-

commit 2b997bb4bb688be00620887c8646ff24ccb9396b
Author: Daniel Stone
Date:   Tue Mar 29 13:59:57 2022 +0100

libkms: Remove libkms completely

libkms was a very early attempt at a KMS management library, that only
got as far as handling requests to create buffers. It has since been
superseded by GBM in doing this, which everyone uses, unlike libkms
which no-one uses.

Remove it from the tree to avoid any confusion.

  The graphics HWE stack from kinetic needs to be backported for 22.04.2

  directx-headers
  - build-dep of the new Mesa

  libdrm
  - build-dep of the new Mesa

  llvm-15
  - new package in jammy
  - build-dep of the new Mesa

  mesa

  - new HW support, like AMD RDNA3, Intel DG2

  spirv-headers
  - needed by s-l-t-15

  spirv-llvm-translator-14
  - needed to bootstrap libclc from llvm

  spirv-llvm-translator-15

  Bootstrapping plan:
  - s-l-t-14 built from NEW
  - llvm-15 built with s-l-t-14
  - s-l-t-15 built against llvm-15
  - llvm-15 built again with s-l-t-15
  -> mesa ready for building

  [Test case]
  Install the new mesa on various hw, see that everything still works like
before or better.

  spirv-headers:
  - test reverse-build-deps that they still build

  * spirv-tools

  This is a major update of Mesa, there could be regressions but we'll backport
the final stable release of 22.2.x in order to minimize the chance for those.

Accepted the new libdrm, thanks! But I see there that libkms got removed
in this version, but I assume it's not something we care about?

  #10 0xf7fb9f50 in function_throws_int () at lib.cpp:9
  #11 0x0d54 in main (argc=1, argv=0xfab8) at main.cpp:9

  Compiling libunwind with --enable-cxx-exceptions enabled leads to
  _Unwind_RaiseException being called during __cxa_throw(), which fails
  to find a handler, and the generic std::terminate() is called instead,
  aborting the program.

  On i386 and amd64 this doesn't seem to be the case, and the libunwind
  handlers seem to be present.

  To fix, we only enable the configure option --enable-cxx-exceptions on
  i386 and amd64 only, in debian/rules. This lets other architectures
  fall back to the symbols provided by libgcc_s, which implementation
  works correctly.

  [Testcase]

  Ali Sadi has provided a reproducer program.

  Start an arm64 instance, for example, a c6g.medium instance on AWS,
  with either Bionic or Focal.

  $ wget
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libunwind/+bug/1999104/+attachment/5635122/+files/libunwind.tar.gz
  $ sudo apt install -y build-essential libunwind-dev
  $ tar xvf libunwind.tar.gz && cd test
  $ make all

  There are two executable, main and main_unwind. main is not linked to
  libunwind, and main_unwind is linked to libunwind.

  $ ./main
  int throws lib
  int caught main
  $ ./main_unwind
  terminate called after throwing an instance of 'int'
  terminate called recursively
  Aborted (core dumped)

  If you install the test package available in the following ppa:

  https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf350246-test

  $ make clean
  $ sudo apt install -y libunwind-dev
  $ make all
  $ ./main
  int throws lib
  int caught main
  $ ./main_unwind
  int throws lib
  int caught main

  The exception is caught as expected the program does not abort.

  [Where problems could occur]

  For architectures other than i386 and amd64, we are changing from
  libunwind provided exception handlers for __cxa_throw(), and using
  those provided by libgcc_s instead.

  There are a few reverse dependencies for libunwind-dev and libunwind8,
  which need to be considered:

  $ apt rdepends libunwind-dev

  Update glib to 2.74.3

Status in glib2.0 package in Ubuntu:

Status in glib2.0 source package in Kinetic:

Bug description:
  Impact
  --
  There is a new bugfix release in the stable 2.74 series

  The current release in Ubuntu 22.10 is 2.74.0

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib/-/blob/2.74.3/NEWS

  Test Case 1
  ---
  glib has an extensive test suite.

  Failing tests will fail the build.
  This update will also trigger a lot of autopkgtests.

  Ensure that there aren't autopgktest regressions triggered by this
  update and that the builds complete successfully

  Test Case 2
  ---
  Pretty much all parts of GNOME use GLib, so test anything in the desktop that
you can. If you reboot the machine and can get to the desktop, that's already
tested GLib extensively. But also run applications like the terminal, the file
browser and epiphany-browser

  Test Case 3 (Extra)
  --
  Install gnome-characters 43.1. (This is being SRU'd, but the version from
Lunar also works.)
  Open the Characters app.
  Use the search feature to search for "moose"
  A moose emoji should show up. This is one of the new Emoji 15.
  https://blog.emojipedia.org/whats-new-in-unicode-15-0/

  With glib 2.74.0, the moose emoji won't be searchable but it does show
  in the Animals category.

  What Could Go Wrong
  ---
  This update contains fixes in multiple places so multiple apps could be
affected. The consequences of a broken GLib can range from some functions
returning bad results sometimes, which have minimal runtime implications, up to
the system simply crashing all the time.

  Other Info
  --
  Unicode 15 enablement was granted a User Interface Freeze Exception for
Ubuntu 22.10: https://launchpad.net/bugs/1989626

  glib and gnome-characters are the only 2 late pieces that the Ubuntu
  Desktop team plans to SRU for Ubuntu 22.10.

  Ubuntu 23.04 has 2.74.2 with the commits from 2.74.3 backported so
  they are functionally equivalent. Ubuntu 23.04 will get newer glib
  versions before 23.04 is released.

Bug description:
  * Impact

  Fibocom FM350 modems aren't working with the current version of
  modemmanager in 22.04.

  * Test case

  - install modemmanager, libmbim, and libqmi from -proposed
  - reboot and try WWAN function to see if any regression there.
  - perform dogfooding of its reverse dependencies (network-
     manager, gnome-control-center etc.)

  The verification should be done on FM350 to ensure it's correctly
  handled but also on other hardware to verify that there are no
  regressions

  * Regression potential

  The SRU does an update to new modemmanager serie so we should do a
  complete round of testing on different hardware and confirm there are
  no regression.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1950282] Re: Fibocom WWAN FM350-GL-00 (Mediatek M80 5G) support

2022-12-16 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello You-Sheng, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libqmi into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libqmi/1.32.0-1ubuntu0.22.04.1 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.
