[Touch-packages] [Bug 2055012] [NEW] When I upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04, DNS resolution went wrong.
Public bug reported: I was an unpatient idiot, and I upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04. Near to the end of the upgrade, I got an „Oh, no! [something, I do not remember] and the system cannot recover. Call the system administrator” message after a red FAILED in the terminal. The system administrator is myself, because my computer is a personal one. Hard reset, same error, Ctrl+Alt+F3, sudo apt reinstall gdm3. Obviously. I needed to finish the update with dpkg. While dpkg was upgrading, it printed an error message for every WiFi connection: „[Failed] Failed to migrate [I do not remember, something with /etc/netplan]” It took at least one and a half our to find the solution on Ask Ubuntu. The problem was: /etc/resolv.conf became a broken link, along with systemd-resolve.service. I needed to remove both of them and write a new resolv.conf to fix the error. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2055006] Re: Crash
CurrentDmesg.txt shows the Nvidia kernel driver crashing, which is probably not helpful. But also... Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Run these commands: journalctl -b0 > journal.txt journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt and attach the resulting text files here. 2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Summary changed: - Xorg crash + Crash ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => ubuntu ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2055006 Title: Crash Status in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: happens when I start wine. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2054873] Re: Connection to xwayland lost / Xwayland terminated, exiting since it was mandatory
[Touch-packages] [Bug 2054859] Re: VNC connection issues with 22.04
** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => gnome-remote-desktop (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2054859 Title: VNC connection issues with 22.04 Status in gnome-remote-desktop package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I have several computers running 20.04 and a couple running 22.04. VNC was great on 20.04. I could connect using remina or real vnc no problem. on the 22.04 machines though, I cannot connect reliably at all. If the server montitor is in sleep, the server rejects the connection. On some machines I can connect once, but then not again until I restart the vnc server. The issue is the same using rdp or vnc. I have searched on this, but couldn't find any information that was helpful. Thanks. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1922047] Re: Touchpad scrolling is too fast
** Tags added: noble -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to gtk+3.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1922047 Title: Touchpad scrolling is too fast Status in Mozilla Firefox: Fix Released Status in GTK+: Fix Released Status in Mutter: New Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in gtk+3.0 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in gtk4 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in mutter package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This is an issue which has troubled me for a while. Anecdotally, scrolling feels way too fast in GNOME on Wayland compared to on X11. I finally tested it semi-scientifically, and it seems like GNOME on Wayland scrolls almost exactly 1.5x faster than GNOME on X11. I tested this by testing how many lines are scrolled from a full two- finger touchpad swipe from the bottom of my touchpad to the top of my touchpad, and logged a few attempts in both X and Wayland. I kept track of the results in this spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17EaBM5Pgt7GdnnzcN2Vchk4kfT7IZ6i4qZ0zpVRGLhc/edit?usp=sharing I scrolled in one of my own GTK applications (https://github.com/mortie/lograt) because it lets me easily see how many lines I scrolled. Attach is a video of one full scroll on X11 and one full scroll on Wayland. This testing was performed on a Dell XPS 13 9343, but I've also used Ubuntu on a Dell XPS 9575 where GNOME Wayland scrolling also feels way too fast. I don't have other hardware to test on. This has been an issue on both Ubuntu 20.10 and Ubuntu 21.04. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2054977] [NEW] systemd-networkd fails to renew DHCP v4 lease when renew attempt times out
Public bug reported: I'm seeing exactly what this gist describes: https://gist.github.com/raggi/1f8d0b9f45c5b62e7131b03e6e2ffe68 Summary: 1. Configure a machine with a DHCPv4 lease on a network with a DHCPv4 server. 2. Place machine under unusual load sufficient to cause a timeout on netlink requests. 3. Observe the interface failing with the following logs: systemd-networkd[139370]: eth0: Could not set DHCPv4 address: Connection timed out systemd-networkd[139370]: eth0: Failed The error seems to come from here: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/blob/v245.4/src/network/networkd-dhcp4.c#L781 Expected behavior The DHCPv4 client should retry the lease refresh when the issue is a timeout, eventually succeeding in these scenarios. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2054908] Re: gpg-wks-server pulls in postfix
Steve - it is a server package for hosting a web key server, it's entirely reasonable for it to depend on a mail transport agent. A WKS server, upon uploading a key, sends confirmation emails to the UIDs in the key, before publishing it, so that it only published keys with consent. It's problematic that it was installed by default, and I'm fixing this here and in Debian by doing the restructuring I did. This is not optimal for people upgrading without quirks (i.e. Debian users especially) but I don't think breaking the wks server to make upgrades without quirks nicer is a better choice. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apt in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2054908 Title: gpg-wks-server pulls in postfix Status in Auto Package Testing: New Status in apt package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in gnupg2 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in munin package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in ubuntu-release-upgrader package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Example 1 I did a sudo apt dist-upgrade today on my developer machine running Ubuntu Desktop 24.04 LTS and it surprisingly pulled in postfix. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2022879] Re: No sound from Woofer speaker of Asus Zephyrus G14 2023
The sweet-spot now for me is Kernel 6.7.0 and Nvidia Metapackage driver 535 (proprietary) With this combo Blender sees the GPU correctly and can use the CUDA and Opti-X cores for rendering, and the sound works... The only thing that doesn't work like it should is screen brightness adjustment, so I use a code in the terminal window: $ xrandr --output eDP-1 --brightness 0.7 Where eDP-1 is the main monitor in use, you can check it easily by opening the display settings, and the red box will appear in the upper left corner of the screen with the name of your display. 0.7 is the level of brightness 01 is 10% 0.7 is 70% and 1 is 100%... So this works well for me, as always perfection takes time, and updates come with delay, but eventually there will be a big update that works even with a new super laptop like Zephyrus, I hate Windows, so I rip it out of my laptop as soon as I get my hands on it, like a bad plague hahahah :D and then I just find the best Linux distro... This is a Linux forum right? I already forgot where I'm typing this, so better go back to rendering and system monitoring... Blender 4.1 will be awesome, just beta testing it now... Good work all.. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2028459] Re: cups apparmor: read access to /etc/gnutls/config
For what it's worth, this is still happening with noble. Since the shipped /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cups-browsed fortunately specifies "#include ", this can be worked around without causing further headaches by adding the following to /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.sbin.cups-browsed (create that file if for some reason it doesn't exist): /etc/gnutls/config r, and reloading the profiles via systemctl reload apparmor -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to cups in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2028459 Title: cups apparmor: read access to /etc/gnutls/config Status in cups package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The gnutls library has an optional configuration file in /etc/gnutls/config. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2054908] Re: gpg-wks-server pulls in postfix
Ok, pulling in postfix is very disruptive since gpg-wks-client was seeded in Ubuntu Desktop 22.04 LTS and 23.10 and several flavors. postfix's install has a debconf prompt which is now allowed for the default desktop install. ** Summary changed: - gnupg is pulling in gpg-wks-server which pulls in postfix + gpg-wks-server pulls in postfix ** Changed in: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apt in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2054908 Title: gpg-wks-server pulls in postfix Status in Auto Package Testing: New Status in apt package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in gnupg2 package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in munin package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in ubuntu-release-upgrader package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Example 1 I did a sudo apt dist-upgrade today on my developer machine running Ubuntu Desktop 24.04 LTS and it surprisingly pulled in postfix. I did not built this into a full reproducible test case because I found another test case… Example 2 munin's autopkgtests are now failing because postfix and gpg-wks-server is now unexpectedly being installed. https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/munin/noble/amd64 Other Info gnupg2's changelog indicates that there was an attempt to avoid this misbehavior by having gnupg only Suggest gpg-wks-server. In fact, there is **nothing** in Ubuntu that Depends or Recommends gpg-wks-server. Notably, gnupg has Suggests: gpg-wks-server (<< 2.4.4-2ubuntu7.1~), gpg-wks-server (>= 2.4.4-2ubuntu7) I don't recall ever seeing strict versioned Suggests before so it's my wild guess that apt does not strict handle versioned Suggests in the expected way. As a workaround, try dropping the versions from gnupg's Suggests. But the true fix may be in apt. I added a munin bug task as a pointer in case anyone wonder's about the autopkgtest regression but I don't believe munin needs any changes. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1958019]
I also tried the two changes above to 6.7.6, it took a bit for me to work out how to compile a custom kernel in ubuntu (easy once you know). Mine is a slightly different 14IRP8 device Yoga Pro rather than Slim Pro (same underlying hardware). Alsa-info -> https://alsa- project.org/db/?f=3adac42b53db18376ea17cd5ab008c247a4039a5 Applied the latest firmware to /lib/firmware from https://gitlab.com/kernel-firmware/linux-firmware.git (branch main). Confirmed no options are now required, overall sound is considerably better, volume works, headphones also work. Subjectively audio doesn't seem quite as good as in Windows, where the bass seems to get dynamically adjusted depending on the volume (maybe some fancy DSP effects, not sure - I am only guessing). Either way, it is now light-years better than what it was before the changes.
