[Touch-packages] [Bug 2055012] Re: When I upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04, DNS resolution went wrong.

2024-02-26 Thread Zalán Hári
** Description changed:

I was an unpatient idiot, and I upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04. Near to
- the end of the upgrade, I got an „Oh, no! [something, I do not remember]
- and the system cannot recover. Call the system administrator” message
- after a red FAILED in the terminal. The system administrator is myself,
+ the end of the upgrade, I got an „Oh, no! Something has gone wrong and
+ the system cannot recover. Call the system administrator” message after
+ a red FAILED in the terminal. The system administrator is myself,
because my computer is a personal one. Hard reset, same error,
Ctrl+Alt+F3, sudo apt reinstall gdm3. Obviously. I needed to finish the
update with dpkg. While dpkg was upgrading, it printed an error message
  for every WiFi connection:

„[Failed] Failed to migrate [I do not remember, something with
  /etc/netplan]”

It took at least one and a half our to find the solution on Ask Ubuntu.
The problem was: /etc/resolv.conf became a broken link, along with
systemd-resolve.service. I needed to remove both of them and write a new
  resolv.conf to fix the error.

there.

Title:
  My screen radomly starts flickering

Status in linux-hwe-6.5 package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Hello,

I recently installed Ubuntu 22.04.4 on a Lenovo V145-15AST laptop.
Randomly, the screen will start flickering. I have found that pulling
the power cable out sometimes solves the issue ! But even so, with the
power cable out the screen can still start flickering. It's completely
  random, but very distracting.

I am treating this as a bug as I have looked at the options in
"Settings > Screen Display" and non of those seem to make any
  difference.

Also I previously tried to install Linux Mint 21.3 and in that case, while
booting from the usb stick, I got the welcome to linux mint menu which allows
me various options and I select "Start Linux Mint"
After that the spinning mint logo appears, then a small mouse pointer on a
black screen then the screen goes into some sort of error, a black screen with
a few lines at the top.
Selecting "Start linux mint in compatability mode" does boot to mint but then
the trackpad does not work.

I have included this reference to Linux Mint as I believe mint is
  based on Ubuntu.

  Many thanks,
  Nick.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2054925] Autopkgtest regression report (debootstrap/1.0.126+nmu1ubuntu0.7)

2024-02-26 Thread Ubuntu SRU Bot
All autopkgtests for the newly accepted debootstrap (1.0.126+nmu1ubuntu0.7) for
jammy have finished running.
The following regressions have been reported in tests triggered by the package:

Bug description:
  [Impact]
The last couple of days, I have been unable to run a successful debootstrap
for Noble Numbat.

Apparently this is caused by the addition of symlinks (/bin, /lib,
  /lib64 and /sbin) in base-files 13ubuntu7. According to
debootstrap.log, it fails to extract said symlinks because they
  already exist at that point.

This can be reproduced on build hosts running Jammy Jellyfish against
any up-to-date Ubuntu public archive mirror as of today.

  # lsb_release -a
  No LSB modules are available.
  Distributor ID: Ubuntu
  Description: Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS
  Release: 22.04
  Codename: jammy

  # apt-cache policy debootstrap
  debootstrap:
    Installed: 1.0.126+nmu1ubuntu0.5

Attached shell output of two runs of debootstrap. First run uses
mirror archive.ubuntu.com (which as of this report serves base-files
version 13ubuntu7), and second run uses a local custom mirror (which
serves base-files 13ubuntu6). First run fails, second run succeeds.

  [Test plan]
Successfully for each of focal, jammy, mantic, noble
  - debootstrap
  - mksbuild
  - pbuilder whatever chroot management tool it has
  - ubuntu-image, if we can pull debootstrap from proposed for this

  as well as

  - debootstrap noble --merged-usr

  [Where problems could occur]
We do not anticipate any regressions as we replace the previous *) case for
usrmerge for post-hirsute with a new jammy|kinetic|lunar|mantic one, and the
new solution will only impact noble and onward.

That said, this is a different approach than mantic and newer take,
and a different approach than Debian takes, where they moved to
merging post-extraction, even in stable releases.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2003756] Re: Cannot configure krb5-kdc on Ubuntu Jammy 22.04.01, "Could not execute systemctl: at /usr/bin/deb-systemd-invoke line 142."

2024-02-26 Thread Mitchell Dzurick
Also, the various packages here have a similar error message but the
error is probably caused by different things. This is a generic error
message from init-system-helpers.

Now, with that said, I agree init-system-helpers should be more verbose
when this error happens.

Bug description:
I have a fresh install of Ubuntu Server 22.04.01 LTS. After
installing the server and running all updates, I run the following
  command:

  apt -y install slapd ldap-utils schema2ldif sasl2-bin
  libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit krb5-kdc-ldap krb5-admin-server krb5-kdc

This will be installing krb5-kdc 1.19.2-2.

This is in preparation for setting up an OpenLDAP server, a Kerberos
server with an LDAP backend, and saslauthd for pass-through
authentication. krb5-kdc was auto-selected when running the steps in
the guide here in my development environment:
  https://ubuntu.com/server/docs/service-kerberos-with-openldap-backend
When installing that, I get the following in the output:

  Setting up krb5-kdc (1.19.2-2) ...
  Created symlink /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/krb5-kdc.service
→ /lib/systemd/system/krb5-kdc.service.
Could not execute systemctl: at /usr/bin/deb-systemd-invoke line 142.

I do get the prompts for the realm, kdc, and admin server hostnames,
and they are reflected in /etc/krb5.conf. If I then run the
  following:

  dpkg-reconfigure krb5-kdc

I am prompted for whether I want the package to create the Kerberos
KDC configuration automatically, and when I say yes, it then repeats
  the following error:

Could not execute systemctl: at /usr/bin/deb-systemd-invoke line 142.

I cannot find any further debug in the syslog or anything to indicate
what the root cause is; the list of packages here are all installed
together on a separate development server where I experimented with
the configuration I will be deploying here in production so I don't
think it's incompatible packages in the install list, but I am open to
  feedback on that.

netvicious or Dan, do you have the AMI that you used to produce that
error with proftpd-core?

I also tried reproduction on ami-0dffe9017aa8424a2 in eu-north-1 and was
not able to reproduce that failure.

I just booted a fresh t3.micro instance with the above AMI, then
proceeded to run `apt update -y && apt install -y  proftpd`.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2054925] Re: Debootstrap fails for Noble with base-files 13ubuntu7

2024-02-26 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Hello Åka, or anyone else affected,

Accepted debootstrap into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debootstrap/1.0.126+nmu1ubuntu0.7
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

We do not anticipate any regressions as we replace the previous *) case for
usrmerge for post-hirsute with a new jammy|kinetic|lunar|mantic one, and the
new solution will only impact noble and onward.

I confirmed that the resulting target dir of debootstrap in Jammy (with
patch/MERGED_USR=no) and Mantic is the same, with a comparison of `ls
-lR` (normalized for Month/Day/Time fields).

...

Test command for Jammy (patched) and Mantic:

# debootstrap --arch=amd64 --variant=minbase --keyring
/usr/share/keyrings/ubuntu-archive-keyring.gpg noble /tmp/nobletest

Dir listing for Jammy (patched) and Mantic:

deboostrap-jammy # ls -lR /tmp/nobletest/ > list.jammy
deboostrap-mantic # ls -lR /tmp/nobletest/ > list.mantic

Normalization and comparison:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2054925] Re: Debootstrap fails for Noble with base-files 13ubuntu7

2024-02-26 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
TL;DR: The fix is not needed on Mantic.

This is just to expand a bit on the brief note in '[Where problems could
occur]' ("moved to merging post-extraction"), for clarity.

The code in `scripts/gutsy` (used for noble) is different between Mantic
and Jammy with regards to the order of package extraction and usr-merge
setup, in first_stage_install().

The issue happens in Jammy because usr-merge setup runs _before_
extraction (thus extraction of base-files fails as the
/{bin,lib,lib64,sbin} symlinks already exist):

setup_merged_usr
extract $required

But it doesn't happen in Mantic because usr-merge setup runs _after_
extraction (thus extraction of base-files works as the symlinks don't
yet exist):

extract $required
merge_usr

Title:
unmkinitramfs: wrong and unneeded count= in a dd call

Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Speaking about this line in unmkinitramfs:

  113: dd < "$initramfs" skip=$start count=$((end - start))
  iflag=skip_bytes 2> /dev/null |

dd's block size is 512 by default. iflag=skip_bytes does not change
that. Both $end and $start are byte-offsets. Hence the count is
($end-$start) blocks or ($end-$start)*512 bytes which is wrong.

Anyways, the script just works because the count is unneeded: dd's
output is piped into cpio which stops on the first end-of-archive
marker, no matter how much data it is fed with.

I think it is the best to just drop the count option (the patch is
  attached).

If there is still a need to explicitly limit data fed to cpio, dd is
impractical in this case. The only way to count= in bytes is bs=1,
which makes dd extremely slow on lengthy data chunks. For example
  ubuntu-23.10.1-desktop-amd64.iso contains initrd with embedded
uncompressed cpio archives of such sizes:

  77312
  7200768
  78615040

A combo of dd+head could be used intead to skip and count
  respectively:

  113: dd < "$initramfs" skip=$start iflag=skip_bytes 2> /dev/null |
  head -c$((end - start)) |

  Or even tail+head:

  113: tail -c+$((start+1)) "$initramfs" | head -c$((end - start)) |

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2036467] Re: Resizing cloud-images occasionally fails due to superblock checksum mismatch in resize2fs

2024-02-26 Thread Krister Johansen
Thanks for the update, Matthew. We're looking forward to getting this
fix from Ubuntu. My team patched our version the e2fsprogs package from
Focal about a year ago, before we submitted the fix upstream. Since
that patch, we haven't had any re-occurrences of the problem. It used
to show up about 4-5 times a day for us. Glad that the fix is working in
your tests as well.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

This is a long running bug plaguing cloud-images, where on a rare
occasion resize2fs would fail and the image would not resize to fit
  the entire disk.

Online resizes would fail due to a superblock checksum mismatch, where
the superblock in memory differs from what is currently on disk due to
  changes made to the image.

  $ resize2fs /dev/nvme1n1p1
  resize2fs 1.47.0 (5-Feb-2023)
resize2fs: Superblock checksum does not match superblock while trying to open
/dev/nvme1n1p1
  Couldn't find valid filesystem superblock.

Changing the read of the superblock to Direct I/O solves the issue.

  [Testcase]

Start an c5.large instance on AWS, and attach a 60gb gp3 volume for
  use as a scratch disk.

Run the following script, courtesy of Krister Johansen and his team:

     #!/usr/bin/bash
     set -euxo pipefail

     while true
     do
parted /dev/nvme1n1 mklabel gpt mkpart primary 2048s 2099200s
     sleep .5
     mkfs.ext4 /dev/nvme1n1p1
     mount -t ext4 /dev/nvme1n1p1 /mnt
     stress-ng --temp-path /mnt -D 4 &
     STRESS_PID=$!
     sleep 1
     growpart /dev/nvme1n1 1
     resize2fs /dev/nvme1n1p1
     kill $STRESS_PID
     wait $STRESS_PID
     umount /mnt
     wipefs -a /dev/nvme1n1p1
     wipefs -a /dev/nvme1n1
     done

Test packages are available in the following ppa:

  https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/lp2036467-test

If you install the test packages, the race no longer occurs.

  [Where problems could occur]

We are changing how resize2fs reads the superblock from underlying
  disks.

If a regression were to occur, resize2fs could fail to resize offline
or online volumes. As all cloud-images are online resized during their
initial boot, this could have a large impact to public and private
  clouds should a regression occur.

This was fixed in the below commit upstream:

The commit has not been tagged to any release. All supported Ubuntu
releases require this fix, and need to be published in standard non-

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2055055] Re: unmkinitramfs: wrong and unneeded count= in a dd call

2024-02-26 Thread Adam Vodopjan
Just found out, aside for skip_bytes iflag, there is also count_bytes
one. So another fix count be:

113: dd < "$initramfs" skip=$start count=$((end - start))
iflag=skip_bytes,count_bytes 2> /dev/null |

** Description changed:

Speaking about this line in unmkinitramfs:

- 113: dd < "$initramfs" skip=$start count=$((end - start))
+ 113: dd < "$initramfs" skip=$start count=$((end - start))
  iflag=skip_bytes 2> /dev/null |

-
- dd's block size is 512 by default. iflag=skip_bytes does not change that.
Both $end and $start are byte-offsets. Hence the count is ($end-$start) blocks
or ($end-$start)*512 bytes which is wrong.

+ that. Both $end and $start are byte-offsets. Hence the count is

Anyways, the script just works because the count is unneeded: dd's
output is piped into cpio which stops on the first end-of-archive
marker, no matter how much data it is fed with.

I think it is the best to just drop the count option (the patch is
  attached).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2055055] [NEW] unmkinitramfs: wrong and unneeded count= in a dd call

2024-02-26 Thread Adam Vodopjan
Public bug reported:

Speaking about this line in unmkinitramfs:

113: dd < "$initramfs" skip=$start count=$((end - start))

dd's block size is 512 by default. iflag=skip_bytes does not change that. Both
$end and $start are byte-offsets. Hence the count is ($end-$start) blocks or
($end-$start)*512 bytes which is wrong.

marker, no matter how much data it is fed with.

If there is still a need to explicitly limit data fed to cpio, dd is
impractical in this case. The only way to count= in bytes is bs=1, which makes
dd extremely slow on lengthy data chunks. For example
ubuntu-23.10.1-desktop-amd64.iso contains initrd with embedded uncompressed
cpio archives of such sizes:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2036127] Re: Restarting `systemd-networkd` looses unmanaged bridged parents

2024-02-26 Thread Simon Déziel
@enr0n, yes, I did restart systemd-networkd after creating
/etc/systemd/network/10-netplan-vlan1.network.d/keep_master.conf.

If you want to reproduce, the steps outlined in the bug descriptions
should provide you with a simple reproducer.

Title:
Restarting `systemd-networkd` looses unmanaged bridged parents

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
My home network comprises many VLANs managed by `systemd-
networkd`/`netplan`. Those VLANs are then used as parent interfaces
for LXD networks. Whenever `systemd-networkd` is restarted (i.e: post-
update), my whole network breaks because all the unmanaged bridges
lose their parent devices. Another way to see it is that `systemd-
networkd` undoes the `master` setting of those VLAN devices.

  Here is a simplified reproducer:

  1. Create a `vlan1` device

  $ lxc launch ubuntu:22.04 networkd-bug
  Creating networkd-bug
  Starting networkd-bug

  $ lxc file push - networkd-bug/etc/netplan/99-vlan1.yaml << EOF
  network:
version: 2
vlans:
  vlan1:
id: 1
link: eth0
  EOF

  $ lxc exec networkd-bug -- netplan apply

  2. Manually create a bridge and join `vlan1` to it

$ lxc exec networkd-bug -- ip link add br0 type bridge
  $ lxc exec networkd-bug -- ip link set vlan1 master br0
  $ lxc exec networkd-bug -- ip link
1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode
DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
  link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
  2: vlan1@eth0: mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue
master br0 state UP mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 00:16:3e:94:6e:47 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
3: br0: mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN mode DEFAULT
group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 42:b6:31:01:47:9a brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
  164: eth0@if165: mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue
state UP mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 00:16:3e:94:6e:47 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff link-netnsid 0

  3. Restart `systemd-networkd`

  $ lxc exec networkd-bug -- systemctl restart systemd-networkd

  4. Notice `vlan1` lost it's master config

  $ lxc exec networkd-bug -- ip link
1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode
DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
  link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
  2: vlan1@eth0: mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state
UP mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 00:16:3e:94:6e:47 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
3: br0: mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN mode DEFAULT
group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 42:b6:31:01:47:9a brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
  164: eth0@if165: mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue
state UP mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 00:16:3e:94:6e:47 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff link-netnsid 0

  Ideally, `vlan1` should retain it's `master` setting and I wouldn't loose
connectivity :)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2054925] Re: Debootstrap fails for Noble with base-files 13ubuntu7

2024-02-26 Thread Julian Andres Klode
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
The last couple of days, I have been unable to run a successful debootstrap
for Noble Numbat.

Apparently this is caused by the addition of symlinks (/bin, /lib,
  /lib64 and /sbin) in base-files 13ubuntu7. According to debootstrap.log,
it fails to extract said symlinks because they already exist at that
  point.

This can be reproduced on build hosts running Jammy Jellyfish against
any up-to-date Ubuntu public archive mirror as of today.

  # lsb_release -a
  No LSB modules are available.
  Distributor ID: Ubuntu
  Description: Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS

Attached shell output of two runs of debootstrap. First run uses mirror
archive.ubuntu.com (which as of this report serves base-files version
13ubuntu7), and second run uses a local custom mirror (which serves
base-files 13ubuntu6). First run fails, second run succeeds.

  [Test plan]
- Successfully
- - debootstrap focal
- - debootstrap jammy
- - debootstrap mantic
- - debootstrap noble
+ Successfully for each of focal, jammy, mantic, noble
+ - debootstrap
+ - mksbuild
+ - pbuilder whatever chroot management tool it has
+ - ubuntu-image, if we can pull debootstrap from proposed for this
+
+ as well as
+
  - debootstrap noble --merged-usr

- both in buildd and normal variant, also specifically for noble,
- --merged-usr should be ignored.

  [Where problems could occur]
We do not anticipate any regressions as we replace the previous *) case for
usrmerge for post-hirsute with a new jammy|kinetic|lunar|mantic one, and the
new solution will only impact noble and onward.

That said, this is a different approach than mantic and newer take, and
a different approach than Debian takes, where they moved to merging
  post-extraction, even in stable releases.

Following this problem, the computer can still be used. However, after
the lock screen goes into effect due to inactivity, the following
attempt to login fails. After entering the system password, the screen
just sits there and no login occurs. The only way to get out of this
situation is to powerdown the computer which creates other problems with

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2036127] Re: Restarting `systemd-networkd` looses unmanaged bridged parents

2024-02-26 Thread Nick Rosbrook
This path is wrong: /etc/systemd/network/99-netplan-
vlan1.network.d/keep_master.conf. It should in fact be
etc/systemd/network/10-netplan-vlan1.network.d/keep_master.conf.

Did you restart systemd-networkd afterward?

Title:
Restarting `systemd-networkd` looses unmanaged bridged parents

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
My home network comprises many VLANs managed by `systemd-
networkd`/`netplan`. Those VLANs are then used as parent interfaces
for LXD networks. Whenever `systemd-networkd` is restarted (i.e: post-
update), my whole network breaks because all the unmanaged bridges
lose their parent devices. Another way to see it is that `systemd-
networkd` undoes the `master` setting of those VLAN devices.

  Here is a simplified reproducer:

  1. Create a `vlan1` device

  $ lxc launch ubuntu:22.04 networkd-bug
  Creating networkd-bug
  Starting networkd-bug

  $ lxc file push - networkd-bug/etc/netplan/99-vlan1.yaml << EOF
  network:
version: 2
vlans:
  vlan1:
id: 1
link: eth0
  EOF

  $ lxc exec networkd-bug -- netplan apply

  2. Manually create a bridge and join `vlan1` to it

$ lxc exec networkd-bug -- ip link add br0 type bridge
  $ lxc exec networkd-bug -- ip link set vlan1 master br0
  $ lxc exec networkd-bug -- ip link
1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode
DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
  link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
  2: vlan1@eth0: mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue
master br0 state UP mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 00:16:3e:94:6e:47 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
3: br0: mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN mode DEFAULT
group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 42:b6:31:01:47:9a brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
  164: eth0@if165: mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue
state UP mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 00:16:3e:94:6e:47 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff link-netnsid 0

  3. Restart `systemd-networkd`

  $ lxc exec networkd-bug -- systemctl restart systemd-networkd

  4. Notice `vlan1` lost it's master config

  $ lxc exec networkd-bug -- ip link
1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode
DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
  link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
  2: vlan1@eth0: mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state
UP mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 00:16:3e:94:6e:47 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
3: br0: mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN mode DEFAULT
group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 42:b6:31:01:47:9a brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
  164: eth0@if165: mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue
state UP mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 00:16:3e:94:6e:47 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff link-netnsid 0

  Ideally, `vlan1` should retain it's `master` setting and I wouldn't loose
connectivity :)

The last couple of days, I have been unable to run a successful debootstrap

Apparently this is caused by the addition of symlinks (/bin, /lib,

debootstrap.log, it fails to extract said symlinks because they
  already exist at that point.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2054916] Re: CVE-2022-44640 affects the version of heimdal on ubuntu 22.04 - could it be updated?

2024-02-26 Thread Athos Ribeiro
In Debian, this was fixed in 7.7.0+dfsg-2+deb11u1 in bullseye(-security)
- i.e., 7.7.0+dfsg-2 was still affeected.

7.7.0+dfsg-3 includes a fix for a different CVE:

heimdal (7.7.0+dfsg-3) unstable; urgency=high

  * Fix CVE-2021-3671: A null pointer de-reference was found in the way
samba kerberos server handled missing sname in TGS-REQ. Closes: #996586.
  * Fix autoconf 2.7 issues

In focal, this was fixed in 7.7.0+dfsg-1ubuntu1.3 on Wed, 11 Jan 2023

  * SECURITY UPDATE: invalid free
- debian/patches/CVE-2022-44640.patch: relocates a call to fprintf and
parameters when calling it in decode_type() in lib/asn1/gen_decode.c
and add a call to fprintf in free_type() in lib/asn1/gen_free.c.
- CVE-2022-44640

In jammy, we have 7.7.0+dfsg-3ubuntu1. As mentioned above, 7.7.0+dfsg-3
does not include the fix for the mentioned CVE. Moreover, our delta in
this release is just former delta being carried by the merge:

heimdal (7.7.0+dfsg-3ubuntu1) jammy; urgency=medium

  * Merge with Debian unstable (LP: #1946860). Remaining changes:
- Disable lto, to regain dep on roken, otherwise dependencies on amd64
are different to i386 resulting in different files on amd64 and
  i386. LP #1934936
- Remove symbol rk_closefrom@HEIMDAL_ROKEN_1.0 1.4.0+git20110226
  (LP #1945787)

Therefore, this does seem to still be affected by the CVE, as reported.

** CVE added: https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=2021-3671

** Changed in: heimdal (Ubuntu)

My problem was on legacy nvidia driver, and newer versions wouldn't even start.
But I now know a workaround (GSK_RENDERER=cairo) and don't expect there will
be a fix for my old driver anyway.

We do not anticipate any regressions as we replace the previous *) case for

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2055037] [NEW] My screen radomly starts flickering

2024-02-26 Thread Nicholas Turner
Public bug reported:

I am treating this as a bug as I have looked at the options in "Settings
> Screen Display" and non of those seem to make any difference.

I have included this reference to Linux Mint as I believe mint is based
on Ubuntu.

Many thanks,
Nick.

  Recommends: ubuntu-standard
  gce-compute-image-packages

  Issue/Bug Description:

  as per konkor/cpufreq#48 and
  http://konkor.github.io/cpufreq/faq/#irqbalance-detected

irqbalance is technically not needed on desktop systems (supposedly it
is mainly for servers), and may actually reduce performance and power
savings. It appears to provide benefits only to server environments
that have relatively-constant loading. If it is truly a server-
oriented package, then it shouldn't be installed by default on a
desktop/laptop system and shouldn't be included in desktop OS images.

Steps to reproduce (if you know):

This is potentially an issue with all default installs.

  Expected behavior:

  n/a

  Other Notes:

I can safely remove it via "sudo apt purge irqbalance" without any
apparent adverse side-effects. If someone is running a situation where
they need it, then they always have the option of installing it from
  the repositories.
