[Touch-packages] [Bug 2033195] Re: No sound on ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 16 G634JZ

2024-03-29 Thread Daniel Berlin
Doing this "right" requires kernel patch (attached).
This will work on 2024 model JZR.
A similar version will work on 2023 if you add the right subsystem ids[1] to
the patch.

You can also work around this by creating /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
and adding

options snd-hda-intel model=1043:1caf

and then rebooting.

(For those following along at home, don't try this on anything but a G634J
model unless you know what you are doing. The Cirrus windows driver inf reuses
the 1caf model tunings, and has a comment saying this is explicitly correct -
the newer G634 just have a different speaker vendor, but reuse the tunings/etc
from the older model )

[1] lspci -nn -v and look for the subsystem id:

:00:1f.3 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation Raptor Lake High Definition
Audio Controller [8086:7a50] (rev 11) (prog-if 80)
DeviceName: Onboard - Sound
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device [1043:3a60]

Replace the 10433a60 in the patch with the right subsystem id.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2055148] Re: NetworkManager connections with an explicit DoT (DNS over TLS) are not supported with Netplan

2024-03-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package netplan.io - 1.0-2

netplan.io (1.0-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Lukas Märdian ]
  * Versioned dep on meson >= 1.3.0 for python.limited_api (Closes: #1066889)
  * d/control: downgrade python3-rich to Recommends.

  [ Danilo Egea Gondolfo ]
  * debian/netplan.io.preinst.
Add a preinst maintainer script for netplan.io to cleanup .pyc cached
files. Due to these files, the directory /usr/share/netplan/netplan is
not being removed after the python3-netplan package split. By removing
these files (and __pycache__ directories), dpkg can remove the old
directory during upgrade.

Workaround to prevent parse-nm to generate invalid DNS entries in the
resulting YAML if SNI is used. (LP: #2055148)

  Hi all,

  NetworkManager connections with an explicit DoT (DNS over TLS)
  configuration are not supported with Netplan, but NetworkManager does
  feed back the DoT DNS info with server address and Server Name
  Indication (SNI) in the form server_address#SNI, e.g.
  1.2.3.4#dns.myhome.com as nameserver addresses to Netplan. As a
  result, subsequent Netplan config applications fail because DNS
  servers don’t have the expected dotted decimal (IPv4) or colon’ed hex
  (IPv6) form.

  ```
  nmcli> describe ipv4.dns
  === [dns] ===
  [NM property description]
  Array of IP addresses of DNS servers. For DoT (DNS over TLS), the SNI server
name can be specified by appending "#example.com" to the IP address of the DNS
server. This currently only has effect when using systemd-resolved.
  ```

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2059417] Re: Sync xz-utils 5.6.1-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2024-03-29 Thread Daniel Richard G.
Important context from https://lists.debian.org/debian-security-
announce/2024/msg00057.html :

  Andres Freund discovered that the upstream source tarballs for xz-utils,
  the XZ-format compression utilities, are compromised and inject
  malicious code, at build time, into the resulting liblzma5 library.

  Right now no Debian stable versions are known to be affected.
  Compromised packages were part of the Debian testing, unstable and
  experimental distributions, with versions ranging from 5.5.1alpha-0.1
  (uploaded on 2024-02-01), up to and including 5.6.1-1. The package has
  been reverted to use the upstream 5.4.5 code, which we have versioned
  5.6.1+really5.4.5-1.

Title:
  Sync xz-utils 5.6.1-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Status in xz-utils package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  Please sync xz-utils 5.6.1-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

  Hello! I am one of the upstream maintainers for XZ Utils. Version 5.6.1
  was recently released and uploaded to Debian as a bugfix only release.
  Notably, this fixes a bug that causes Valgrind to issue a warning on
  any application dynamically linked with liblzma. This includes a lot of
  important applications. This could break build scripts and test
  pipelines that expect specific output from Valgrind in order to pass.

  Additionally, this fixes a small typo for the man pages translations
  for Brazilian Portuguese, German, French, Korean, Romanian, and
  Ukrainian, and removes the need for patches applied for version
  5.6.0-0.2.

  The other bugfixes in this release have no impact on Ubuntu. They
  involve building with CMake or when building on a system without
  Landlock system calls defined (these are defined in Ubuntu).

  Changelog entries since current noble version 5.6.0-0.2:

  xz-utils (5.6.1-1) unstable; urgency=medium

    * Non-maintainer upload.
    * Import 5.6.1 (Closes: #1067708).
    * Takeover maintenance of the package.

   -- Sebastian Andrzej Siewior Wed, 27 Mar
  2024 22:53:21 +0100

  Excerpt from the NEWS entry from upstream:

  5.6.1 (2024-03-09)

  * liblzma: Fixed two bugs relating to GNU indirect function (IFUNC)
with GCC. The more serious bug caused a program linked with
liblzma to crash on start up if the flag -fprofile-generate was
used to build liblzma. The second bug caused liblzma to falsely
report an invalid write to Valgrind when loading liblzma.

  * xz: Changed the messages for thread reduction due to memory
constraints to only appear under the highest verbosity level.

  * Build:

  - Fixed a build issue when the header file
was present on the system but the Landlock system calls were
not defined in .

  - The CMake build now warns and disables NLS if both gettext
tools and pre-created .gmo files are missing. Previously,
this caused the CMake build to fail.

  * Minor improvements to man pages.

  * Minor improvements to tests.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1597017] Re: mount rules grant excessive permissions

2024-03-29 Thread Steve Beattie
** Description changed:

+ SRU Team; the packages for focal-proposed and jammy-proposed are
+ intended as security updates prepared by the Ubuntu Security team (and
+ have built in a ppa with only the security pockets enabled). However,
+ because the fix makes mount rules in apparmor policy be treated more
+ restrictively than they were prior to this update, we would like these
+ packages to gain more widespread testing.
+
+ Risk of Regression:
+
+ The update for this issue causes the apparmor parser, the tool that
+ translates written policy into the enforcement data structures used by
+ the kernel, to generate more strict policy for mount rules, like the
+ example below. They are not common in apparmor policy generally, but can
+ appear in policies written for container managers to restrict
+ containers, and thus can potentially break container startup.
+
+ The packages prepared for focal-proposed and jammy-proposed have tested
+ with the versions of snapd, lxc, libvirt, and docker in the ubuntu
+ archive, but conainter managers outside of the ubunty archive may run
+ into issues, hence the need for testing and policy adjustments.
+
+ Original Report:
+
  The rule
-   mount options=(rw,make-slave) -> **,
+   mount options=(rw,make-slave) -> **,

  ends up allowing
-   mount -t proc proc /mnt
+   mount -t proc proc /mnt

  which it shouldn't as it should be restricted to commands with a make-
  slave flag

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2055195] Re: KUbuntu ships an outdated version that breaks Google

2024-03-29 Thread josep Alacid
This bug only affects KUbunu, not other Ubuntu distributions.
Users of KDE are very proactive and found a workaround to this bug, but
shamelessly, it's in every version and update as long as KUbuntu 22.10, so
nobody managing this distribution is aware of it or just don't want to waste
his time on such a minor user pool.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2046844] Re: AppArmor user namespace creation restrictions cause many applications to crash with SIGTRAP

2024-03-29 Thread John Johansen
@coeur-noir:

Are you installing firefox to /opt/ as recommended or using it local in
your user account?

as for bwarp, maybe it is known to be problematic. It is allowed to run and to
create a user namespace but it is denied all capabilities within the namespace.

Can you run
  sudo dmesg | grep apparmor

and add the information here.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2059417] Re: Sync xz-utils 5.6.1-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2024-03-29 Thread Adrien Nader
I'll dive deeper into this. The timing collides with the t64 transition
so that makes me curious. Moreover, Debian reverted to 5.4.5 so the
situation where we're on 5.6.0 doesn't match Debian either.

    * Non-maintainer upload.
    * Import 5.6.1 (Closes: #1067708).

  * Build:

  * Minor improvements to tests.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2059417] Re: Sync xz-utils 5.6.1-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2024-03-29 Thread Alex Murray
Given this has been reverted in Debian, it should not be synced into
Ubuntu.

    * Non-maintainer upload.
    * Import 5.6.1 (Closes: #1067708).

  * Build:

  * Minor improvements to tests.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2046383] Re: lubuntu - minimal install ; no browser means `ubuntu-bug` is broken

2024-03-29 Thread ԜаӀtеr Ⅼарсһуnѕkі
Before the report sends, it certainly does say that it will open the
report in the web browser. If one's paying attention, one should realize
they don't have one. It actually tells you this twice. If you go all the
way through, you do get xdg-open's usual "no method" complaint.

For that matter, should we choose to solve this with documentation,
people will have to pay close attention to the documentation we provide
to realize it won't work. The fact that the Ubuntu wiki page on
reporting bugs doesn't really expressly mention the requirement of the
browser further complicates things, but there again, they'd have to pay
attention.

My suggestion? Don't require a browser. I'm inclined to call this an
apport bug. Even when looking at what folks do with Ubuntu Server, they
still require a (text-based) browser and yet there are bugs that
reference how that doesn't work
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/997020), either,
so as far as I can tell, it's still a problem.

  At the very least; this will need to be documented (ie. users will

  another alternative utilized. This was reported on IRC days ago

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2059739] [NEW] initramfs-tools 0.142ubuntu23 copies host /etc/passwd into initramfs

2024-03-29 Thread Philipp
Public bug reported:

Recent changes to the dhcpd hook shipped with dhcpdinitramfs-tools
0.142ubuntu23 (noble-dev) copy the host /etc/passwd into the initramfs-image:
https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/commit/hooks/dhcpcd?h=applied/ubuntu/noble=73c865b9d234087d977d7baa20852639746567fd

This has multiple problems:
 * The passwd file is copied without checking if the dhcpcd user actually
exists (which is created by dhcpcd package, but only dhcpcd-base is installed
via dependencies)
 * The change breaks dropbear-initramfs because the passwd file contains a root
user with a non existing home directory
 * leaking user information into initramfs (which may or may not be a problem
on fully encrypted systems)

** Affects: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
