[Touch-packages] [Bug 1366230] Re: Whitespace causes random character deletions

Title:
  Whitespace causes random character deletions

Status in Ubuntu Keyboard:
  New
Status in “ubuntu-keyboard” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Frustrating bug that has been around since I started dogfooding ubuntu
on my nexus 4 - somwhere around the 180 image mark. Am currently
  running devel-proposed 223 on mako.

Have tested this in multiple apps, including the default Notes, Quick
Memo, Touchwriter - all have the same issue. Typing and deletion work
fine initally, until I create an empty line - see below for an
  example:

  Example---
Here I'm typing a usual line... about to make a space

Here I'm typing after the space, etc.
  ---End Example--

When I go back to edit the first line, as soon as I delete characters
at the end of the line, the line below jumps up, and deletes a number
of those characters. See below for the example:

  Example---
Here I'm typing a usual line... about to make ae I'm typing after the space,
etc.
  ---End Example--

This makes storing notes on the device, and any editing with the
keyboard, extremely difficult. I notice this only seems to happen when
there is whitespace in between lines - otherwise keyboard is fine. I'm
filing this report as a keyboard bug, as it's the only linking thread
I can see between these programs.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1255165] Re: make it clearer that crash files may contain private data and make it easier to opt out

Title:
make it clearer that crash files may contain private data and make it
  easier to opt out

Status in “whoopsie” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
As far as I understand the whoopsie error report procedure, the coredump will
be sent to ubuntu servers if daisy.ubuntu.com requests this after the initial
report upload.
However, I consider uploading a coredump across the network (although its
https) to be a secuity risk. For instance gtk applications contain a lot of
private information in their coredump such as last opened filenames. The
coredump is used to extract additional information which may help to fix the
bug, which is fine but any information should be extracted from the core
*locally* (i.e. on the machine, where the crash happened) instead of extracting
them on ubuntu servers. The text of the error upload dialog states something
like do you want to help fixing the problem? which indicates to me that
sending the error is something positive. I haven't found any hint that says do
you want to expose private data to canonical? in this dialog.
Altogether, I see no reason for sending a coredump.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1054204] Re: Libreoffice chooses incorrect font weight

Bug description:
  How to fix the problem:

See comments on wrong Ubuntu Light font family being specified in
  the information of Ubuntu-M.ttf.

You can fix the problem manually by installing fontforge program,
going to Open dialog, navigating in it to /usr/share/fonts/truetype
/ubuntu-font-family/ and opening Ubuntu-M.ttf. In Element - Font
Info, you can fix the family on the first page, and then export the
font with File - Generate Fonts, selecting the type TrueType. Save
to somewhere in your home folder first, accept the warnings, then in a
terminal window / command line type:

  sudo mv Ubuntu-M.ttf /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-family
  sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig

Attached to this bug report is also a branch of the Ubuntu packaging
that includes this manually modified Ubuntu-M.ttf, since the sources
seem not to be editable with free tools.

  Original description:

After installing the Ubuntu Font 0.80-0ubuntu3+console from quantal I
have the added Medium font weight:-

  /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-family/UbuntuMono-B.ttf
  /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-family/Ubuntu-RI.ttf
  /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-family/Ubuntu-MI.ttf
  /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-family/Ubuntu-LI.ttf
  /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-family/UbuntuMono-RI.ttf
  /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-family/Ubuntu-M.ttf
  /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-family/UbuntuMono-BI.ttf
  /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-family/Ubuntu-B.ttf
  /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-family/Ubuntu-L.ttf
  /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-family/Ubuntu-C.ttf
  /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-family/Ubuntu-BI.ttf
  /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-family/UbuntuMono-R.ttf
  /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-family/Ubuntu-R.ttf

If I install this font and choose Ubuntu Light in LibreOffice, it
actually picks the Medium font weight. If I remove the medium font
weight files and restart LibreOffice it chooses the right weight
again. It seems related to bug 744812.

  Screenshots show the issue.

Bug description:
In 14.10: Gtk sometimes doesn't pickup translations in the general
about dialog. Even though all strings for the general about dialog are
translated in the gtk-packages, the general about dialog for certain
programs still only shows the English language. See attached
screenshots in zip. Tested in Swedish and Spanish translations, which
both have the gtk-packages translated. So it seems to be a general
error, and not a language-specific one.

  To reproduce:
  1) Observe in launchpad, or any other way you like, that the gtk-packages are
translated, for example, in Swedish and Spanish.
  2) Install the languages in the language support in latest 14.10
  3) Change to another language, and look in the about dialogs in, for example,
Rhytmbox and Disks - they aren't translated altough they should be. In, for
example, Gparted, they are Ok.

Ideally the design should be changed to the same as in the Ubuntu

proportioned to fill out the monospace cell when used in runs of
  monospace Cyrillic.

  Proposed solution:
    1. Monospace Г to have bottom serif removed
    2. Redrawn as two strokes, correctly proportioned for monospace Cyrillic
usage

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1397513] Re: ubuntu

2014-12-20 Thread Adolfo Jayme
Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. The behavior you expected, and
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thank you for your understanding.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1269017] Re: Emojis not fully supported which results in blank received SMS messages

2014-08-16 Thread Adolfo Jayme
It’s not mandatory to use specifically the Symbola font. You could also
package and use the Noto Color Emoji free font, as Firefox OS has done.
[1][2] (FreeType supports that color font... unless Ubuntu Phone doesn’t
use FreeType, of course.)

Bug description:
Android allows for adding emojis[1] to SMS messages. I'm told that iOS
users are able to see these emojis. Our messaging app should also
  support displaying emojis.

emojis appear to not requires MMS since when using Google Hangouts in
the new android, when you add an emoji the hangouts app says 'Sent now
via SMS'. Two things need to happen:

  1. need to be able to correctly receive SMS messages with arbitrary
emojis. Currently, on image 120, an SMS with a known emoji, eg, a
smiley face, will display correctly when it is and is not accompanied
with text. However, an SMS with an unknown emoji (eg, with a pinata)
will show up as a blank SMS, even when the SMS has text. At a minimum,
the text of the message should always be shown, perhaps with an
  'unknown emoji' placeholder

  2. need to be able to send SMS messages with emojis

'Connect to ssid, Cancel, and Connect buttons are
untranslated; curiously, the Show password label of the checkbox is
  translated.

When doing the same operation later in the system settings app, the
dialog is completely translated. Thus I think the problem isn't
untranslated strings, but that the choice of language in the initial
step somehow doesn't restart already existing services under the new
  locale?

I attach a screenshot of the connection dialog from the initial

The progress bar makes this illusion even worse.

What you should see: The screen contents is above-center, as shown in

Ending all active sessions on facebook and deleting the ubuntu app
  rebooting
adding account in UOA, and allowing the ubuntu app to manage my messages
etc...

Didn't help at all. pidgin connects fine on the same computer.

  * Enable the language menu when single pressing the language switcher
button and add a settings item to the bottom of the language
switcher.
  * Add numbers to the extended keys in the top row and extra
punctuation on existing punctuation keys. Also adds the new sheqel
symbol to the Hebrew keyboard and ensures that the Hebrew keyboard
still displays keys when in capital mode. (LP: #1233578)
  * Fix incorrect Russian characters and layout (LP: #1321908)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1208019] Re: Eclipse menus doesn't show up in Saucy

Status in Unity GTK+ module:

Status in “unity-gtk-module” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Switching tabs between open source files with different file types in
Eclipse causes the Source and Refactor menus to be empty in the global
  menu bar under Unity.

This is a severe usability problem for many Eclipse users. The fix
proposed has been available in a PPA and is well-tested.

  [Test Case]

  1. Open a new project in Eclipse.
  2. Open two files: one with a .java extension, another with a .txt extension.
  3. Switch between the .java file and the .txt file and back again.
  4. Open the Source or Refactor menu in the Unity global menu bar.

Expected result: menus with menu items
Actual result: empty menus for both

  [Regression Potential]

The fix involves changes to both gtk and unity-gtk-module.

The changes to gtk are minimal and only involve the reversal of a pair
of signal emissions, in a part of the code (GtkMenuTracker) which is
normally used by desktop environments, not typical user applications.
Therefore regression potential for the gtk update is unlikely.

The changes to unity-gtk-module involve emitting show and hide signals
where they were none before has some regression potential for
applications that are explicitly watching for when their menus are
opening and closing. But this is rare for applications to do, and we
likely would have already received bug reports for those that do.
Being completely sure would require extensive testing across all gtk
  apps though.

Both changes together have been available as a PPA, thoroughly tested
  for quite some time now.

  [Other Info]

The changes to unity-gtk-module depend on the changes to gtk, so both
must be tested in simultaneity. Suggested to upload both to trusty-
  proposed at the same time.

  Original bug report follows:

  === % ===

  HOW TO REPRODUCE

  1. Run Eclipse, Gimp or Inkscape.
  2. Move the cursor to the top of the screen.
  3. Click on any of the menu items (File, Edit, Navigate, ...)

  **
  EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR
  **

  - The content of the submenus show up.

  **
  REAL BEHAVIOUR
  **

  - Only the top-level headers are available.
  - Nothing happens when clicking on them
  - They don't show up in the HUD either.

Title:
Files in Launcher opens new window instead of restoring minimized
  trash

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I could reproduce this bug on my two computers with 13.10

I'm not sure if this problem is related to Nautilus or the Launcher.

  Instructions :

  1. Open the Trash via the Launcher

Comment : the active arrow in the Launcher appears on Files
  instead of Trash

  2. Minimize the window

Comment : hmm, if I want to make it reappear, which of the two
  icons should I click?

  3. a) Clicking the Files icon, which is shown as active, opens a new
  Files window

   b) Clicking the trash icon, which is shown as inactive, opens the
  Trash

  What is expected?

   1. The Trash icon, not the Files icon, should be shown as active

  OR

   2. The Files icon, which is shown as active, should restore the
Trash window instead of opening a new Home window

  Further information

   1. I could replicate the same bug by opening Nautilus and going
to the trash in step 1

   2. Although I haven't tried it, I remember to have experienced a
similar bug with the folder of an external storage (e.g. USB key)

Title:
nautilus opens a new window if clicked on its unity icon even when
another nautilus window is open with ntfs drive folder open

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I could not make the title shorter and clearer, please forgive.

  How to reproduce this bug:

On a freshly booted system running Ubuntu 14.04 having unity as its
desktop-manager and having at least one NTFS partition on its internal
  hard disk, do the following:

  1) Open a nautilus window and mount an NTFS partition and keep any of the
folders on the NTFS partition open in this window.
  2) Now open any other application(I opened firefox) and then go back to the
nautilus window by pressing on nautilus' unity icon(which should have a small
arrow to the left of the nautilus icon, indicating it is already open). Do not
use Alt+Tab to go back to nautilus- this works fine.

  3) This will open a new nautilus window with the home folder(or
whichever is the default path to open when a new nautilus window is
opened) and bring the originally opened folder on the NTFS partition.

  What I expected to happen?

Clicking on an already opened nautilus window will open(bring to
foreground) the folder on the NTFS partition.

  What actually happened?

A new window with my home folder as its default opening path, opened,
giving me two nautilus windows opened.

Title:
unity makes confusion when trying to focus partitions' folders

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  How to reproduce
  version 1:workspaces disabled
  Open gedit
Click on a partition icon on the launcher
You see nautilus windows appears, a white arrow appears alongside of Files
icon and both the icon of the volume you clicked on and the File's one have a
backlight.
  Focus gedit
I see the white arrow is alongside of the Files icon, so if I want to focus
the partition's folder I should click on it. I do it
  Expected result
  Unity focuses the partition's folder
  What happens instead
Damn! It opens a new File window in my home folder, but if I click on the
partition icon it works... ok, I can get used to it, even if it's a bit
confusing...

  version 2:workspaces enabled
Click on a partition icon on the launcher
You see nautilus windows appears, a white arrow appears alongside of Files
icon and both the icon of the volume you clicked on and the File's one have a
backlight.
  Switch to another workspace
I want to focus the partition's folder in the other workspace, as in the
previous case I see the arrow alongside File's icon and I click on it
  Expected result
Unity switches to the correct workspace and focuses the partition's folder
  What happens:
It opens a new File's window in my home folder. Ok ok, I have to click on the
partition's icon. I do it.
  Expected result #2
Unity switches to the correct workspace and focuses the partition's folder
  What happens #2
What!? The File icon wiggles and its edge becomes illuminated? Nothing else?
Do I really have to manually switch to the correct workspace and then click on
the correct icon? I can't realize a convenient way to focus the window on the
other workspace without doing it manually (which is not comfortable)

Bug description:
Sometimes left clicking the nautilus launcher icon doesn't bring up a
minimized nautilus window. Instead of restoring the window a new
instance of nautilus is showing up.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open a nautilus window by clicking on the launcher icon.
  2. Navigate to a symlinked directory whose target is located on a different
harddrive (for example: a symlink to a folder on a sd-card).
  3. Minimize the nautilus window.
  4. Try to bring up that window again by clicking the launcher icon.

  What happens:

  1. A new instance (window) of nautilus is opened.
  2. There's no obvious way to access the first window again. The only way is
ALT+TAB.

  What schould happen:

If a nautilus window is already open and minimized clicking the
launcher icon should bring up that window. This was the behavior of
nautilus windows in Ubuntu 12.10 (quantal).

Title:
Nautilus launcher opens 2 windows before getting focusing on the
  current open one

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
If Nautilus is open on a location that is not '~' , when clicking the
launcher on the unity laucher bar it opens '~' when it should focus on
  the already opened window.

When 2 windows are open, it will focus on the last used one instead of
  launching a new Nautilus instance.

This is a bit confusing. Why does it open a new Nautilus instance when
I have 1 aready open? Why does it not open a new instance when I have
  2?

  Description:

Nautilus opens a 2nd instance when the location of the first instance is not
the user's home, will focus on the already opened instance if it is.
Nautilus does not reproduce the same behaviour if there are already 2
instances open, it will focus on the last used instance instead, no matter the
current location of any of the instances.

  Desired behaviour:

If a Nautilus instance is already running it should focus on that
instance no matter the current location that instance is at the moment
you click the launcher or open the last focused (used) Nautilus
window. Fifefox does not open a new window if the current tab is not
the default home page does it? It just opens the one you are already
using. Why would Nautilus do it then? If I need another Nautilus
window I can right click and select a quick shortcut to a location.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 962265] Re: Unity in 12.04 is impossible to use by a newbie because of the empty Dash at start

2014-07-25 Thread Adolfo Jayme
The fix is in 12.04. When you start Unity for the first time, it is pre-
populated with items. This bug was only closed recently because of an
oversight, but it has been fixed for two years already.

Bug description:
Sorry if this has been told several times, but I need to say it before
  12.04 goes out.

1- Take a normal computer user and ask him to use Unity in 12.04

2- He understands that the have to hit the Ubuntu Button on Top left
  to launch an application.

3 - He expects then some links to find the application he's looking
  for ( maybe a bit like in 11.10 )

4- Instead he found an empty space and don't see the shortcuts at the
Bottom that could lead him to categories of apps.

5 - he just close the lid of the laptop and ask me install me a
  normal operating system

Solution : Hitting the Dash should in less than 2 click enable the user to
launch the application hes's looking for without typing its name.

12.04 will be a disaster without this. Maybe this is being worked on
  for beta2 ?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1311965] Re: UI scaling inconsistent when using new display scaling option

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

Title:
UI scaling inconsistent when using new display scaling option

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Just installed Ubuntu 14.04 on a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, which has a
3200x1800 display. Consequently, I need to scale up everything in the
system to have anything render at a reasonable size. I found the new
Scale for menu and title bars option in the Display Settings, and
set it it 2.25. This, for the most part, did what I wanted.

  * Unity interface is scaled
  * Text is scaled
  * Many builtin applications seem to scale correctly

However, there's some funky inconsistencies as to what has scaled:

  * Depending on what the mouse is over, it either renders at the larger
(correct) size, or a smaller (incorrect) size. Examples of things which render
the mouse incorrectly include the global/window bars, unity application
selector, most applications (firefox and most of software center are notable
exceptions), and sometimes right-click menus.
  * Some (GTK provided?) widgets (most notably checkboxes, radio buttons,
scroll bars, and ) render too small. This is visible in most third-party
applications, which are otherwise correctly sized. Firefox and CompizConfig are
examples of this, even after layout.css.devPixelsPerPx was changed in Firefox
to match the display setting.
  * The change occasionally doesn't correctly register with some or all
applications (regardless of whether they were open at the time). Adjusting the
slider always changes the unity global ui correctly, but sometimes the settings
manager or nautillus would not actually render at an increased size, even after
a reboot. Other times it would register fine even without a reboot.

DejaVu Serif 12 pt not rendering number characters correctly

Status in fonts-dejavu package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: ttf-dejavu

The DejaVu family is a wonderful set of screen fonts. I have recently
switched to a new machine and am running into a problem with certain
characters. Since it's the numerals, it's quite noticeable.

It does not manifest at 11pt nor at 14pt. But at 12pt (what I'm trying
to use) and 13pt, certain digits render at a different height than
other digits. This is exceedingly jarring, to say the least.

If I use the `gnome-appearance-properties` Fonts - Details dialog to
change the hinting from the default Slight to Medium, the problem goes
away, but that's because all the letters turn into wire outlines which
are a ghost of their former selves :(. But while that's interesting in
and of itself, it doesn't give me much of a handle on what to poke. Do
I need to hack on the dejavu font itself? The fontconfig entries?
Cairo? Hard to say, and any pointers appreciated.

The screen is a laptop LCD at
dimensions:1366x768 pixels (270x150 millimeters)
resolution:129x130 dots per inch
  according to `xdpyinfo`.

Screenshot (using gnome-specimen to examine the problem) attached.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1256162] Re: If certain programs are opened unfocused, text is a lighter shade

Title:
If certain programs are opened unfocused, text is a lighter shade

Status in ubuntu-themes package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
When certain programs are opened unfocused, the text displayed is a
lighter (incorrect and harder to see, shade of grey. I've found this
to happen in gedit and Synaptic, at the very least.

To reproduce with gedit, open a text file (say, by double clicking on
it), but make sure another window is focused by the time it starts up.

The result is that the text displayed by gedit will be a lighter,
harder to see, shade of gray. If the window is dragged around the text
actually turns darker (i.e. the proper shade of gray) temporarily,
then reverts back to the lighter color once the dragging is complete.

If the file opens in gedit while it is focused, the text is darker
(i.e. the proper shade) and everything is fine.

See attachments for the text color comparison.

This is certainly a theme or unico theme engine problem (not sure
which though), since it occurs with at least two programs when using
the Ambiance and Radiance themes, while it does not occur using the
  high contrast or Awaita themes.

I'm using Ubuntu 13.10, though the problem has been there for a quite
some time, definitely since 12.04, but maybe longer; I just couldn't
figure out how to reproduce it until now.

Title:
LibreOffice windows appear off-screen and/or under Unity panel

Status in Compiz:

Status in Unity:

Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
LibreOffice windows that stretch from the bottom of the top panel to
the bottom of the screen appear partially off-screen when the program
is opened, either under the top panel or with the bottom part of the
window slightly cut off at the bottom.

On my computer (Ubuntu 14.04, Unity 7.2.2) those opened an the top
workspaces (or if multiple workspaces are turned off) appear with the
bottom part off-screen, while those opened on the bottom workspaces
  appear under the top panel.

But it's not totally consistent: Writer does this, but Calc and Draw
open off-screen to the bottom on both the upper and lower desktops.
Sometimes the first window opens totally on screen, but as soon as
another window is opened, it will be off-screen.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open a LibreOffice application (Writer, Calc, etc.) and make it so that
it's not maximized, then throw it to one side (or extend the window up to the
panel) so that it stretches from the bottom of the top panel to the bottom of
the screen.
  2. Close LibreOffice.
  3. Open LibreOffice again and see that the window is slightly off-screen to
the bottom or under the panel.
  4. If it is totally on screen, open a new window, which will always be
off-screen.

Attached is a screenshot of LibreOffice Writer after the launcher icon
is clicked from the top left workspace.

containing the message Unhandled tag 'packing'. That's it. There's no
reference to the widget currently being parsed. I don't know how to
  get that information either.

This error message should contain that information. Of course, the
real bug is that some widget isn't handled properly, but since I don't
know which one and don't know how to find out, I can't be more
  specific.

It's also possible that this affects more than one widget, of course.
If the error message includes the widget name or line number of the UI
definition file that's currently being parsed, it'll be easier to
  identify.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1355137] Re: gtk2 theme version improvements for high-dpi screens

By editing the gtkrc file one can at least mitigate a majority of
issues.

Then do it and submit a patch.

gtk2 theme version improvements for high-dpi screens

Status in ubuntu-themes package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
GTK2 applications are still widespread and the lack of resolution
independence poses significant usability problems, for example for
  clicking radio buttons or checkboxes.

By editing the gtkrc file one can at least mitigate a majority of
issues. By doubling dimensions (like widths, heights, not border-
widths), the following controls can be made usable: radio buttons,
checkboxes, scrollbars, expand/collapse triangles in trees. While this
is nothing like complete high-dpi support, still a significant partial
  improvement can be achieved.

Users of high-dpi screens should not have to suffer under the current
default, or have to patch the theme manually. It would be good to
implement a way that when the scaling factor is = 2.0, as many GTK 2
widgets as possible are rendered with larger dimensions, be it by
theme engine or by switching the theme.
