[Touch-packages] [Bug 1691096] Re: mysql in lxd fails to start with systemd 233: failed at step KEYRING

2017-08-15 Thread Corey Bryant
I tried systemd from proposed as well but still hit the failure:

root@a1:~# apt policy systemd
systemd:
  Installed: 234-2ubuntu3
  Candidate: 234-2ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 234-2ubuntu3 500
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu artful-proposed/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 233-8ubuntu3 500
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu artful/main amd64 Packages

I was able to reproduce this with several openstack services (cinder-scheduler,
nova-scheduler, nova-conductor) and this is blocking autopkgtests so it appears
to be fairly pervasive.

Within Canonical's multi-architecture compute cloud, I observed that
arm64 instances were taking an unreasonable amount of time to return
from a 'nova reboot' (2 minutes +, vs. ~16s for POWER in the same
  cloud region).

Digging into this, I find that a nova soft reboot request is doing
nothing at all on arm64 (no events visible within the qemu guest, and
no reboot is triggered within the guest), and then after some sort of
timeout (~2m), 'nova reboot' falls back to a hard reset of the guest.

Since this is entirely predictable on the arm64 platform (because
there's no implementation of ACPI plumbed through), 'nova reboot' on
arm64 should just skip straight to the hard reboot and save everyone
  some clock time.

Christian, thanks for all the digging! I just ran a successful test
against sqlite 3.26.0-2 package rebuilt with
2defce45c5670e0258374eeb2e293fcf6f82bddd reverted. That's the only
change I made and it seems to resolve the issue. Now to figure out if
that patch is fine and we really need to update PRAGMAs to enable legacy
usage or if there is a bug upstream.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1807262] Re: stein unit tests fail with sqlalchemy.exc.NoSuchTableError: migration_tmp

2018-12-07 Thread Corey Bryant
I've moved ahead with an upstream PR and will be uploading to Ubuntu
shortly with a patch/bug to Debian.

Title:

Status in sqlalchemy-migrate:

Status in cinder package in Ubuntu:

Status in migrate package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in nova package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in sqlite3 package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Several tests that use sqlite fail with:
  "sqlalchemy.exc.NoSuchTableError: migration_tmp". I'm currently
hitting this with nova and cinder packages in disco.

Note this started sometime after 11/19 when nova
  2:19.0.0~b1~git2018111953.3e756ff674-0ubuntu1 was uploaded (and built
  successfully at the time).

After doing some digging this appears to occur with libsqlite3-0
3.26.0-1 but does not occur with libsqlite3-0 3.25.3-1. Here are some
more details on that, shown by running a failing unit test from the
  cinder package: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/hsnQFQD572/

Update: The test in the paste above also works successfully with
  libsqlite3-0 3.25.3-2.

Andrey, I don't know if you saw James' comment as yours may have
coincided but if you can get the ceph-osd package version that would be
helpful. Thanks!

However on reboot it happens (not always, rather like race condition) that
Ceph services cannot start, and pvdisplay doesn't show any volumes created. The

of boot process.

The behaviour can be fixed manually by running "#/sbin/lvm pvscan

This feels similar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/charm-ceph-

charms which have the fix for that bug?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1828617] Re: Hosts randomly 'losing' disks, breaking ceph-osd service enumeration

2019-05-29 Thread Corey Bryant
Thanks for all the details.

I need to confirm this but I think the block.db and block.wal symlinks
are created as a result of 'ceph-volume lvm prepare --bluestore --data
 --block.wal --block.db '.

That's coded in the ceph-osd charm around here:
https://opendev.org/openstack/charm-ceph-
osd/src/branch/master/lib/ceph/utils.py#L1558

Can you confirm that the symlinks are ok prior to reboot? I'd like to
figure out if they are correctly set up by the charm initially.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1823761] Re: [SRU] Move Livepatch in a different tab as in Disco

2019-05-20 Thread Corey Bryant
Hi Andrea,

SRU that is blocked from getting into bionic-proposed until this is
released. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1829017

Thanks,

Title:
[SRU] Move Livepatch in a different tab as in Disco

Status in software-properties package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in software-properties source package in Bionic:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  * Impact
The livepatch graphical interfaces are currently limited in bionic, there is
no easy way to know the current status and the details of the changes applied.
The new design improves the user experience and we want that to benefit the LTS
users

  * Test case
Open software-properties-gtk, you should see a livepatch new tab which has
the detail of the status (including the CVEs fixes with the applied livepatch
where there is one)

  * Regression potential
The changes are mostly new code so check that the livepatch tab works
correctly.
There is some UI refactoring so it's best to check that the other tabs still
look the same.
Note that the changes include some new strings. Those are translated in disco
and have been announced to the translators in march as coming to bionic for a
SRU
  (https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-translators/2019-March/007530.html).
Launchpad shares translations between series so we should get those
translations included in the next bionic langpacks export.

  ---

Backport the new Livepatch tab from Disco.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1836258] Re: Update hyperlink when enabling UCA

2019-07-12 Thread Corey Bryant
Thanks Peter. I'll get this SRU'd. Marked as Low since it doesn't affect
any functionality but I do think it needs fixing as it's just not clean.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1852772] [NEW] test_updates_interval fails on focal

2019-11-15 Thread Corey Bryant
Public bug reported:

FAIL: test_updates_interval (tests.test_dbus.TestDBus)

self.assertTrue('APT::Periodic::Update-Package-Lists "1";' in config)

AssertionError: False is not true

Looking closer, while in the SetUpdateInterval() method in
softwareproperties/dbus/SoftwarePropertiesDBus.py, days is of dbus.Int32
type. A simple print output shows:

days=dbus.Int32(1)

D-Bus is statically typed, unlike python. More details at:
https://dbus.freedesktop.org/doc/dbus-python/tutorial.html#data-types

I think once we're in the dbus method (SetUpdateInterval() method in
softwareproperties/dbus/SoftwarePropertiesDBus.py) we can convert the
dbus.Int32 to an int.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1848237] Re: amd64-only test running on i386

2019-10-16 Thread Corey Bryant
I just uploaded it to the Eoan unapproved queue. Apologies for not
updating the changelog with the bug, but I think we can just manually
track it via this bug. Sahid had run autopkgtests successfully but
seeing as it's release week I wanted to be safe and land it via bileto
but I've given up on that. Anyway it is fixed in python-pyeclib
1.5.0-1ubuntu6.

Hi Andreas,

We currently have a fix for this going in
https://bileto.ubuntu.com/#/ticket/3823
but autopkgtests don't seem to be returning results.

Thanks,
Corey

test_updates_interval
  self.assertTrue('APT::Periodic::Update-Package-Lists "1";' in config)

  AssertionError: False is not true

Looking closer, while in the SetUpdateInterval() method in
  softwareproperties/dbus/SoftwarePropertiesDBus.py, days is of
dbus.Int32 type. A simple print output shows:

  days=dbus.Int32(1)

D-Bus is statically typed, unlike python. More details at:
  https://dbus.freedesktop.org/doc/dbus-python/tutorial.html#data-types

I think once we're in the dbus method (SetUpdateInterval() method in
  softwareproperties/dbus/SoftwarePropertiesDBus.py) we can convert the
  dbus.Int32 to an int.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1943277] [NEW] libxml2 2.9.12+dfsg-3 causes regression

root@i1:~# cat xml.py

This is broken in 2.9.12+dfsg-3 on impish.
It is not broken in 2.9.10+dfsg-6.3ubuntu0.1 on hirsute.

There are some fixes in master since the 2.9.12 release was cut.
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/libxml2/-/commits/master

I'm planning to pick all 3 of the following commits from upstream master
since they are all intertwined. With this patches the regression is
fixed.

85b1792e37b131e7a51af98a37f92472e8de5f3f:
Work around lxml API abuse. Make xmlNodeDumpOutput and htmlNodeDumpFormatOutput
work with corrupted parent pointers.

13ad8736d294536da4cbcd70a96b0a2fbf47070c:
Add patch from upstream to fix regression in xmlNodeDumpOutputInternal. Commit
85b1792e could cause additional whitespace if xmlNodeDump was called with a
non-zero starting level.

92d9ab4c28842a09ca2b76d3ff2f933e01b6cd6f:
Add patch from upstream to fix whitespace when serializing empty HTML documents.

I'm planning to pick all 3 of these from upstream master since they are all
intertwined. With this patches the regression is fixed.

  85b1792e37b131e7a51af98a37f92472e8de5f3f:
Work around lxml API abuse. Make xmlNodeDumpOutput and
htmlNodeDumpFormatOutput work with corrupted parent pointers.

  13ad8736d294536da4cbcd70a96b0a2fbf47070c:
Add patch from upstream to fix regression in xmlNodeDumpOutputInternal.
Commit 85b1792e could cause additional whitespace if xmlNodeDump was called
with a non-zero starting level.

  92d9ab4c28842a09ca2b76d3ff2f933e01b6cd6f:

documents.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
There is not currently a graphical method of determining if a system is
subscribed to [Extended Security Maintenance](https://ubuntu.com/security/esm)
updates. This is resolved by adding some [new
UI](https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareUpdates#Extended_Security_Maintenance) to
the software properties application.

  [Test Case]
  1. Install latest version of Ubuntu advantage:
  $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ua-client/stable
  $ sudo apt update
  $ sudo apt upgrade
  2. Open Software Properties
  3. Go to Updates tab.

  Expected result:
Information is shown that indicates if this system is using Extended Security
Maintenance updates, when updates will supported until, and a link to upgrade
to ESM.

  Observed result:
  No ESM information currently shown.

  [Where problems could occur]
  - Software properties could hit a bug getting a response from the ua app. The
current code carefully checks if and what is returned, falling back to a safe
default behavior.
  - Launching software properties could trigger a bug in the ua app.
  - Software properties could show incorrect information, causing confusion for
the user. The solution uses information from distro-info and the ua app which
means software-properties contains no data about ESM, and instead relies on
these apps that can be updated if things change.

Bug description:
I started seeing errors parsing XML files today (Feb 22, 2022) after
my system was updated to 2.2.5-3ubuntu0.4. This is on a bionic server.

The parsing is being done by python3's xmltodict module, which uses
python3 expat as the actual parser. This is the error it raises:

xml.parsers.expat.ExpatError: out of memory: line 1, column 0

So far this is happening on multiple xml files, although they all come
from the same source (these are jenkins config.xml files). I'm working
on coming up with a minimal test case which I'll provide once I have
it cleaned up of any private data.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1996067] Re: [SRU] Enable support for Antelope Cloud Archive

2022-11-28 Thread Corey Bryant
I've uploaded this change to the jammy unapproved queue. For Lunar,
software-properties FTBFS due to python-apt 2.3.0ubuntu3 being broken.
Therefore, I've only pushed this change to the master branch. I don't
know that we really need to add this change to the current development
release seeing that it is never applicable to the current dev release,
however, we've historically done it this way.

Bug description:
The Ironic project's CI has been having major blocking issues moving
to utilizing Ubuntu Jammy and with some investigation we were able to
isolate the issues down to the dhcp updates causing dnsmasq to crash
on Ubuntu Jammy, which ships with dnsmasq 2.86. This issue sounds
similar to an issue known about to the dnsmasq maintainers, where
dnsmasq would crash with updates occurring due to configuration
  refresh[0].

This resulted in us upgrading dnsmasq to the version which ships with
  Ubuntu Lunar.

Which was no better. Dnsmasq still crashed upon record updates for
addresses and ports getting configuration added/changed/removed.

We later downgraded to the version of dnsmasq shipped in Ubuntu Focal,
and dnsmasq stopped crashing and appeared stable enough to utilize for
  CI purposes.
