"make install" also triggers initramfs creation as does manual
invocation of the installkernel script. In fact both even trigger
boot loader update/install.

Have installed below patch and retried kdump scenario with root disk as nvme
disk. Now system is not dropping to initramfs state its moving further but not
saving dump file (core) properly.

It looks like I did the update wrong. I have updated to the correct version and
it looks like the patch was applied. Here is some console output showing two
different partition separators:

I've attached my apt-cache policy output. I enabled bionic-proposed but it
looks like the patch has not been applied to the util-linux package.
When I said that the patch worked in Ubuntu 18.04 I had applied the
patch to

This is - unfortunately - true for every serial console (nothing specific to
s390), as there's no architected interface to transport console size changes.
By running /usr/bin/resize, the actual cols/rows will be set.
