  Add automatic switching to HSP/HFP from A2DP when a mic is needed

Status in PulseAudio:

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: pulseaudio

  I'm testing a Nokia BH-905i headset (see
http://www.wissel.net/blog/d6plinks/SHWL-8AZGGF ) on Ubuntu 10.10. The
Bluetooth module correctly identifies the headset and the both audio profiles
"HSP/ HFP Telephony duplex" and "A2DP High Fidelity Playback". For music
playback only A2DP is suitable (HSP/HFP sounds like listening to music played
through an old telephone). A2DP does not have an INPUT mode, so use of the
headset for VoiP isn't possible.
  What would be needed is a separate selection to allow to select A2DP for
output and HSP/HFP for input. Smartphones (a lot of them *nix based) phones do
that (or they switch on the fly?).

  Formal structure:
  1) Ubuntu 10.10
  2) Pulse-Audio 1:0.9.22~0.9.21+stable-queue-32-g8478-0ubuntu21.1
  consisting og pluseaudio, pulseaudio-esound-compat,
pulseaudio-module-bluetooth, pulseaudio-module-gconf, pulseaudio-module-x11,
pulseaudio-utils
  3) Select high quality audio output and still use the Bluetooth microphone
  4) Had to choose: either high quality audio or "telephone quality" with
microphone

  I can change the profile without the Bluetooth connection dropping,
  but that's ridiculous. E.g. listening to music, a call comes in. Then
  I would need to switch the profile before answering. Please note that
  in Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Android, and Windows Mobile it's done
  automatically.

  Check out attached screencast.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1867375] Re: systemd-networkd: UseRoutes behavior change with introduction of UseGateway param

Hi Brian

We will help in testing this for sure once it is available in 18.04.
according to my understanding this is being pushed to bionic too right?

Bug description:
  [impact]

  the networkd UseRoutes parameter allowed ignoring all routes provided
  by a dhcp4 server, including the route via the dhcp4-provided gateway.
  This was the behavior of networkd until recently, and in Focal the
  UseRoutes parameter does *not* prevent networkd from adding the route
  via the dhcp4-provided gateway. This is now controlled with a new
  parameter, UseGateway.

  The systemd in Focal unfortunately has part of the upstream code; it
  no longer ignores the gateway route when UseRoutes=false is specified,
  but also it does not include the UseGateway parameter.

  Before Focal, networkd did not allow ignoring dhcpv4 routes and the
  gateway separately; the UseRoutes= parameter either used, or ignored,
  both. This is why upstream added the UseGateway= paramter, which
  should be backported to allow control of ignoring the dhcpv4 routes
  and gateway separately.

  [test case]

  In Focal, bug 1872589 has a good test case netplan config, but a very
  quick test can be done with the networkd config:

  [Match]
  Name=eth0

  [Network]
  DHCP=ipv4
  LinkLocalAddressing=ipv6

  [DHCP]
  RouteMetric=100
  UseMTU=true
  UseRoutes=false

  this results in the system incorrectly setting a route via the default
  gateway:

  root@lp1867375-f:~# ip r
  default via 10.202.51.1 dev eth0 proto dhcp src 10.202.51.86 metric 100
  10.202.51.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 10.202.51.86
  10.202.51.1 dev eth0 proto dhcp scope link src 10.202.51.86 metric 100

  Before Focal, the above test case shows "correct" behavior, but there
  is no way to ignore the dhcpv4 routes but use the dhcpv4 gateway.
  This pre-Focal, the test case would be to use the UseGateway=
  parameter, e.g.:

  [Match]
  Name=eth0

  [Network]
  DHCP=ipv4
  LinkLocalAddressing=ipv6

  [DHCP]
  RouteMetric=100
  UseMTU=true
  UseRoutes=false
  UseGateway=true

  which *should* result in the default gateway being configured:

  root@lp1867375-f:~# ip r
  default via 10.202.51.1 dev eth0 proto dhcp src 10.202.51.86 metric 100
  10.202.51.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 10.202.51.86
  10.202.51.1 dev eth0 proto dhcp scope link src 10.202.51.86 metric 100

  [regression potential]

  Any regression would likely involve incorrect setting, or ignoring, of
  dhcpv4-provided routes, and/or incorrect setting, or ignoring, of the
  dhcpv4-provided gateway.

  [scope]

  This is fixed by these upstream PRs:
  https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/15443
  https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/15136
  https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/14983

  Parts of all those PRs are required in Focal, Eoan, and Bionic.

  I am not fixing this for Xenial, at this time.

  For Debian, I opened this MR:
  https://salsa.debian.org/systemd-team/systemd/-/merge_requests/92

  For Groovy, I opened this MR:

https://code.launchpad.net/~ddstreet/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+git/systemd/+merge/383661

  [other info]

  to properly support separation of 'routes' and 'gateways' received via
  dhcp4, SRU releases should also support the UseGateway parameter,
  which is what this bug was originally opened requesting.

  [original description]

  requesting backport of PR https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/14983 which
fixes the issue described in
  https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/14982 to 18.04 (bionic)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1003842] Re: dnsmasq sometimes fails to resolve private names in networks with non-equivalent nameservers

2017-05-02 Thread sunil
another solution is to resolve 192.168.0.1 code it as
server=/sample.com/192.168.0.1
which would send all dns lookups for sample.com to 192.168.0.1.

Bug description:
  A number of reports already filed against network-manager seem to
  reflect this problem, but to make things very clear I am opening a new
  report. Where appropriate I will mark other reports as duplicates of
  this one.

  Consider a pre-Precise system with the following /etc/resolv.conf:

  nameserver 192.168.0.1
  nameserver 8.8.8.8

  The first address is the address of a nameserver on the LAN that can
  resolve both private and public domain names. The second address is
  the address of a nameserver on the Internet that can resolve only
  public names.

  This setup works fine because the GNU resolver always tries the first-
  listed address first.

  Now the administrator upgrades to Precise and instead of writing the
  above to resolv.conf, NetworkManager writes

  server=192.168.0.1
  server=8.8.8.8

  to /var/run/nm-dns-dnsmasq.conf and "nameserver 127.0.0.1" to
  resolv.conf. Resolution of private domain names is now broken because
  dnsmasq treats the two upstream nameservers as equals and uses the
  faster one, which could be 8.8.8.8.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1003842] Re: dnsmasq sometimes fails to resolve private names in networks with non-equivalent nameservers

2017-05-02 Thread sunil
The solution that can be proposed is that we can search in non
sequential order. if the first server fails then it should continue
until it gets matched to the other nameserver.

Like, if the request needs to resolve private address then ,it first
searches non sequentiall order and so it asks 8.8.8.8 nameserver
initially. but in the first hit, it can resolve only public addresses.
So now it contacts the other nameserver 192.168.0.1, at this time it can
clearly resolve the public and private addresses.

Title:
  apt repository disk format has race conditions

Status in apt package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Apt archives are accessed over HTTP; this has resulted in a cluster of
  bugs (reported here, and upstream) about problems behind intercepting
  caches, problems with squid etc.

  There are 3 interlocking issues:
  A - mirror networks may be out of sync with each other (e.g. a file named on
one mirror may no longer exist, or may not yet exist, on another mirror)
  B - updating files on a single mirror is not atomic - and even small windows
of inconsistency will, given enough clients, cause headaches.
  C - caches exacerbate race conditions - when one happens, until the cached
data expires, all clients of the cache will suffer from the race

  Solving this requires one of several things:
   - file system transactions
   - an archive format that requires only weakly ordered updates to the files
at particular urls with the assumption that only one file may be observed to
change at a time (because a lookup of file A, then B, may get a cache miss on A
and a cache hit on B, so even if all clients strictly go A, then B, updates may
still see old files when paths are reused).
