[Touch-packages] [Bug 1535058] Re: applications close instantly when launched from the launcher or dash

2016-07-14 Thread David Planella
In my case it's disabled, but even after enabling it manually, I'm
getting the same errors that I had a few months back:

"cgmanager:do_create_main: pid 2118 (uid 1000 gid 1000) may not create
under /run/cgmanager/fs/freezer"

http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/15635909

I'm not sure if this is a red herring, but in any case, even when the
service is running, this bug is still reproducible and apps won't start.
I.e. ever since I got hit by this bug, I've not been able to dogfood the
Unity 8 session.

Yes, in Spain both surnames are used for legal purposes. Both the passport
and the national ID document list the two surnames.

In Spain (and I could imagine in other Spanish-speaking countries too)
there is no such thing as last name: it's 1) given name 2) 2x surnames.

As per the example in the original bug description:

Jordi López Echevarría

Given name: Jordi (one given name)
Surnames: López Echevarría (surname-father + surname-mother)

There isn't a concept of middle name for this particular bug report, and
even those persons with a composite given name e.g. "José María", that's
considered their full given name, to which the surnames are appended. E.g.
following the example, Jordi's brother name could be:

Given name: José María (one given name, no middle name)
Surnames: López Echevarría (surname-father + surname-mother)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1575048] [NEW] Remove qtc* packages from the SDK seed

2016-04-26 Thread David Planella
Public bug reported:

After having talked to the SDK team, I'm told that the following
packages should be removed from the SDK seed:

 * qtcreator-doc
 * qtcreator
 * qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu

These cause qtcreator to be installed twice: as 'qtcreator' and (when
the SDK is installed, as recommended, from the SDK PPA) as 'ubuntu-sdk-
ide', causing much confusion to app developers.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1535058] Re: applications close instantly when launched from the launcher or dash

2016-04-22 Thread David Planella
I'm somehow confused. While the attached branch adds a missing
dependency, it seems from some of the comments this is not actually
fixing the bug.

In my particular case:

- I had manually installed libpam-cgfs
- Modified /etc/pam.d/common-session as suggested [1] (although the branch does
not seem to address that?)
- cgmanager does not start automatically

After manually starting cgmanager at some point I got apps running.
However, having tried it again today, apps still close instantly even
after manually starting the cgmanager service.

Are there any particular logs I could send to help debug the issue?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1535058] Re: applications close instantly when launched from the launcher or dash

2016-03-18 Thread David Planella
@MV, this is about using the ubuntu-desktop-session-mir

@Serge, I eventually got it working, but every time I want to log into
the Unity 8 session, I need to go to tty1 first and do a 'sudo service
cgmanager start'.

Also, I think unrelated to this, with the workaround apps do start,
except for the browser, which crashes after a few seconds of having
started.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1548783] [NEW] Spanish surnames incorrectly imported and discarded

2016-02-23 Thread David Planella
Public bug reported:

In Spain it is customary to have two surnames, both necessary for legal
effects. As an example:

Jordi López Echevarría

Where the first is the given name, followed by the first surname and the
second surname.

When importing the contacts from gmail, it seems the first surname is
being discarded (I assume they are treated as middle name?), resulting
in an incorrect contact name in the Ubuntu address book. e.g.:

Jordi Echevarría

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1535058] Re: applications close instantly when launched from the launcher or dash

2016-02-02 Thread David Planella
Is there any additional step required to get apps to start?

In my case, the libpam-cgs package was already installed on my desktop,
and it didn't make any difference (apps still close after a split
second). I also tried to edit /etc/pam.d/common-session as instructed on
comment #25, but that didn't make a difference either.

Right now, falling back to plain TextEdit is required.

This is a feature to improve the UX of the Reminders core app, so that
it can use the Ubuntu text selection and cursor to be better
  integrated.

In terms of reusing the code that the Reminders app provides to have a
full QML API, while technically possible, would require a non-trivial
amount of work to make it generic enough for use for other apps. The
features of the Reminders text editor are tightly coupled with the
  Evernote API.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1474944] Re: Settings Display results from SCOPE is not translated

2015-08-03 Thread David Planella
A call was sent to translators on the 16th of June [1], and the upstream
project is translated into 23 languages already:

https://translations.launchpad.net/unity-scopes-shell/trunk

It seems like the target languages for bq are covered there too.

Depending on whether the translations are shipped in a click package or
as a .deb package, the developer will need to do some work to integrate
and ship the translations.

Looking at https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/wily/+source/unity-
scopes-shell it seems it's shipped as a .deb package, in which case, I'd
recommend using the same setup as other scopes shipped by default. In
summary, it's about ensuring that the .deb package generates a .pot file
on build, which boils down to:

1. Add X-Ubuntu-Use-Langpack: yes to debian/control's source record
2. Use dh_translations to generate a POT file during the build process.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1450988] [NEW] Duplicate metrics for no calls made today

2015-05-02 Thread David Planella
Public bug reported:

I noticed that when tapping on the welcome screen, the metrics for No
calls made today were shown twice. That is:

1. Tap on the circle until you see No calls made today
2. Double tap again

Actual:
 - The same No calls made today text is shown, but with a different diagram

I think it just needs a one-liner change on this code in

Duplicate metrics for no calls made today

Status in telephony-service package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I noticed that when tapping on the welcome screen, the metrics for No
calls made today were shown twice. That is:

  1. Tap on the circle until you see No calls made today
  2. Double tap again

  Actual:
   - The same No calls made today text is shown, but with a different diagram

  Expected:
  - No time spent on calls today (or similar) is shown

I think it just needs a one-liner change on this code in
indicator/metrics.cpp [1]. I would suggest No time spent on calls
  today on the second instance.

This will also need a .pot file update to expose the new string to
  translators.

  mMetrics[OutgoingCalls] =
mMetricManager-add(MetricParameters(DIALER_OUTGOING_STATISTICS_ID).formatString(GettextMarkExtraction(b%1/b
 calls made today))

.emptyDataString(GettextMarkExtraction(No calls made
today)).textDomain(APP_ID).minimum(0.0));
  mMetrics[CallDurations] =
mMetricManager-add(MetricParameters(DIALER_CALL_DURATION_STATISTICS_ID).formatString(GettextMarkExtraction(Spent
 b%1/b minutes in calls today))

.emptyDataString(GettextMarkExtraction(No calls made

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1446212] Re: Support installing localization data from click packages

2015-04-21 Thread David Planella
I'm guessing the click language packs would be provided by a trusted set
of contributors: Ubuntu Translators, in the same way they provide the
.deb language packs today.

Perhaps the click language packs could have their own policy that
triggers a manual review to ensure only those from a trusted source get
uploaded?

Bug description:
It would be nice if it were possible to add support to a new language/locale
by just installing a click package.
  This would have several benefits:
  1) People could easily add support for non officially supported languages
  2) Languages would be updated independently from the system image
  3) Some space could be freed from the image, if some languages get moved to
click packages

I'm entering this bug against ubuntu-ui-toolkit, because I guess it
would need some change to get the correct path where translations are
installed (it now calls bindtextdomain with /usr/share/locale, while
it should fallback to ~/.local/share/locale/ if the language does not
exist in the system path), but there surely are other projects that
  would need to be changed.

For sure, we would need a click hook to move the translations in
~/.local/share/locale/, as well as changes to the apparmor policy to
  read from that directory.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1445755] [NEW] Provide a way to hide images from a particular location

2015-04-18 Thread David Planella
Public bug reported:

I've put about 30GB of music in my SD card. Some of the music files
don't have embedded cover art and their folders contain those cover art
images.

When I then opened the Gallery app, I noticed I now have thousands of
pictures imported from the cover art images showing up in my Events
and Pictures tabs, cluttering the real pictures I've taken with the
camera.

Is there a way to tell either mediascanner or the Gallery app to ignore
a path and not import/show the images there? E.g. similar to Android,
where you can put a .nomedia file in a folder and its images won't show
up in the picture viewer.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1425114] Re: Please build documentation package for QtOrganizer

Even if there is a C++ API break, there is still value in publishing the

Currently we're using it for the Calendar core app, and it'd be

Ideally, we'd have well documented examples, classes and its members,

The ubuntu-ui-toolkit-doc package and ubuntu-ui-toolkit branch (see

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1384286] Re: add directory allowing scopes and apps to share data

2014-11-10 Thread David Planella
Just to follow up on mardy's suggestion about sharing the cache
directory. On the Reminders app we're integrating the scope and app, and
the notes and their thumbnails are stored under the cache dir, which
would be ideal to share. In this particular case, it might not apply, as
we're shipping the scope and the app in the same click, though, so I
understand they should both be able to access the cache data.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1380916] [NEW] Indicator location no longer loads its translations

2014-10-14 Thread David Planella
Public bug reported:

After a recent update to the trust-store, there's been a regression in
indicator-location, whereby it always appears in English regardless the
user language. In short, it never loads its translations, as the library
(trust-store) changes the translation domain of the client, which is
then no longer indicator-location and thus translations are not found.

seb128 dpm, the issue is the trust-store update that adds i18n
seb128 it changes the domain of the client using the lib
seb128 dpm, I confirmed by downgrading trust-store and indeed the indicator
is properly translated

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1380946] Re: Remove account-plugin-evernote from phone image

2014-10-14 Thread David Planella
** Description changed:

We want to ship an evernote accounts plugin in the reminders-app click
package. As such we no longer need the account-plugin-evernote in the
  image.
+
+ Note: the main reason for the move is that we want to ship the Evernote
+ API key in the Reminders app click package instead of a .deb package.
+ This way we're not tied to system updates if the key needs to be updated
+ or revoked. In addition to that, we can get Jenkins to manage the API
+ keys and keep them private instead of making them public.

Víctor, I think we first need clarification on whether this is a
duplicate of bug 1350360 or not. If it is, then the other one has an

Just a quick update that we're nearing the time to do this change.

The app has been updated in trunk (but it's not yet uploaded to the

there are no recent commits which can cause this issue. This also
seems to only affect app using a Flickable since I cannot reproduce
this issue in the clock app. My best guess would be that this is due
to rev 621 or 622 in the ubuntu-ui-toolkit.

So, there's something non-deterministic happening. I repeated the same action
a number of times, until it finally worked. And the required number of times
was never the same.
The problem might be on the toolkit, on unity or on autopilot.

The test is deterministic, what is flaky is the environment.

duplicate sentences being shown

Bug description:
The current version of music-app uses QtGrilo to snarf the entire
media index into a private database on startup. We haven't yet
implemented a Grilo plugin for the new media scanner, and it would be
preferable for music-app to drive itself directly from the media
  scanner index.

To achieve this, we want to provide a QML interface that provides the
necessary functionality. The initial work is in this merge proposal,
but it does little more than show that it is possible to perform
  queries from QML:

  https://code.launchpad.net/~jamesh/mediascanner2/qml-
  plugin/+merge/201754

We most likely need to add some QAbstractListModel classes that let
you iterate over songs, albums and artists. What is less clear is
what filters would be needed to work with those models.

Bug description:
We've got a new show coming up in June: Mobile Asia Expo, which is an
event much like the past Mobile World Congress. There it will be key
to not only show off core apps, but also to display their native
language support, in particular for Simplified Chinese and other
  languages/scripts used across Asia.

In order for our translators to be able to do their work, we'll need
the translatable messages to be up-to-date. This effectively means:

  - Ensuring all visible messages in the app are marked for translation (i.e.
enclosed in i18n.tr() calls)
  - Updating the po/*.pot files as described in the README.translations or
po/README.translations files
  - Committing and pushing the changes to Launchpad

From then on, translators can take over :)

comm=camera-app requested_mask=w denied_mask=w fsuid=32011 ouid=32011

AppArmor policy is correct on this denial-- apps should not be able to
change the permissions on the /run/user/32011/ (XDG_RUNTIME_DIR)
directory. I filed this against camera-app and reminders, but my guess
is this is an underlying library that is causing this. I don't know if
the denial is causing errors with the app, but it is causing confusion
for users and developers who see the denial.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1325626] Re: Inline translations from .desktop files are not loaded

2014-09-23 Thread David Planella
Actually, removing RSS reader, as the issue is not that the .desktop
file has the X-Ubuntu-GettextDomain, but rather than its desktop file
was not set up for translations, which is being tracked as bug 1318008

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1372065] Re: Alarms and calendar events are mixed in the indicator

2014-09-22 Thread David Planella
** Description changed:

See the attached screenshot. It shows the indicator displaying:
  - An alarm (Despertador)
  - Several calendar events (Daniel/David 1:1, Core apps branches review,
etc.)

  There are several issues:
  - All alarms/events are listed under Clock (Rellotge). I would expect the
events to be listed under the calendar entry (diumenge, 21 de setembre de
2014)
  - The alarm has an event icon, and upon tapping on it, it opens the calendar.
Expected: alarms have an alarm icon, tapping on it opens the clock
  - The events have an alarm icon, and upon tapping on any of them, they open
the clock. Expected: events have an event icon, tapping on them opens the
calendar

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1372065] Re: Alarms and calendar events are mixed in the indicator

2014-09-22 Thread David Planella
I'm seeing this as well (my alarm was disabled), but yes, it's a
separate issue (thanks for filing it!)

I cannot confirm if Enabled Alarms show up as alarms in the indicator-
datetime, as after creating an alarm, it doesn't show up in the
indicator at all for me.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1372061] [NEW] SMS notification: time format not translatable

2014-09-21 Thread David Planella
Public bug reported:

See the attached screenshot. The time for the notification seems to be
hardcoded to hh:mm - mm, d. This works well for the US, but it's not a
format that is used in all other countries. In Spain, for example, the
date would rather be d mm.

The time format needs to be marked for translation.

Not sure from which project the notifications come from, for some reason
I seem to remember they were moved to u-s-s, but if it's the wrong
project/package, please reassign. Thanks!

  - Ensuring all visible messages in the app are marked for translation (i.e.
enclosed in i18n.tr() calls)
  - Updating the po/*.pot files as described in the README.translations or
po/README.translations files
  - Committing and pushing the changes to Launchpad

From then on, translators can take over :)

  1. Install Ubuntu Touch

  3. Reboot system (option)
  4. Check whether a glyph come from Japanese font

  Expected result:
Use Japanese gothic font (Droid Sans Japanese), and no Mojibake.

Bug description:
As other apps cannot know where .mo files might be located for click
packages, and unity8 apparently does not know about X-Ubuntu-Gettext-
Domain for deb packages, the .desktop files for any applications will
need to have their translations merged back into the .desktop file
itself. This at a minimum should include the following .desktop
  fields:

  Name
  Comment
  Keywords (semicolon-separated list of strings)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1369941] [NEW] UOA needs to export export the right QML2_IMPORT_PATH before running plugin code

2014-09-16 Thread David Planella
Public bug reported:

From the Reminders app click package:

http://people.canonical.com/~dpm/click/com.ubuntu.reminders_0.5.225_armhf.click

It turns out that UOA does not find the Evernote binary module.
Previously, in a .deb package we installed this module in the ubuntu-
system-settings private modules location, but we cannot do this with a
.click, thus the right QML2_IMPORT_PATH before running plugin code. This
stops the app from working, as no account can then be selected.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1214034] Re: Implement API for querying SSL status and certificate information and signalling SSL errors to the embedder

2014-09-12 Thread David Planella
Somehow related, track previews on 7digital's mobile site cannot be
played -admittedly, that's a bug on their side.

The browser's logs say: [blocked] The page at
'https://m.7digital.com/GB/releases/3763648?lang=enpartner=983' was
loaded over HTTPS, but displayed insecure content from
'http://previews.7digital.com/clip/[…]': this content should also be
loaded over HTTPS.
