[Touch-packages] [Bug 2018536] Re: Crash switching audio output while playing audio in Audacity

2023-05-07 Thread Enrico
I've solved the problem with the help of the forum
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2486541

The issue is real, but can easily be solved so I put this bug report as
invalid

** Changed in: alsa-driver (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Invalid

Title:
  Crash switching audio output while playing audio in Audacity

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Following the steps below, i get a crash and KDE Plasma doesn't show any
audio output device on my system. I have to reboot the PC to make it work again.
  I can reproduce 100% of the times in Kubuntu (installed and also using the
Live ISO). I can't reproduce it on Ubuntu standard, so it seems to affect
Kubuntu only

  I have a PC that is connected to the HDMI screen and to the earphones
  via audio jack. So I have 2 outputs: HDMI + Earphones.

  1) Put the audio output to HDMI
  2) Play an mp3 file for few seconds to check everything works
  3) Open an audio file in Audacity
  4) Play the audio file in Audacity
  5) While playing, change the audio output to earphones.

  I attach the output of journalctl if it can be useful

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1988777] Re: libgail-3-0 dependencies cause a complete downgrade/uninstall of various packages

2022-09-06 Thread Enrico
Hi Sebastien,

as i reported before, ...

-- %<
root@ebony:~# apt-cache policy evolution libgail-3-0 libgtk-3-0
evolution:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 3.44.0-1

libgail-3-0:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 3.24.33-1ubuntu1
  Version table:
 3.24.33-1ubuntu1 500

libgtk-3-0:
  Installed: 3.24.33-1ubuntu2
  Candidate: 3.24.33-1ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 3.24.33-1ubuntu2 100
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 3.24.33-1ubuntu1 500
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy/main amd64 Packages
-- %<

Both packages came from the Ubuntu main repositories, but during my
installation and upgrade process apt/dpkg decided to install libgtk-3-0
(3.24.33-1ubuntu2) but, libgail-3-0 needs version (3.24.33-1ubuntu1 <--
look at the end it has a "1") of libgtk-3-0, that's the root of all my
issues.

From my point of view, it looks like libgail-3-0 has a strong constrain
on version libgtk-3-0 (3.24.33-1ubuntu1), look at the following
output...

-- %<
root@ebony:~# apt-cache show libgail-3-0
Package: libgail-3-0
...
Depends: at-spi2-core, libatk1.0-0 (>= 2.35.1), libc6 (>= 2.4), libglib2.0-0
(>= 2.57.2), libgtk-3-0 (= 3.24.33-1ubuntu1), libpango-1.0-0 (>= 1.44.0)
Filename: pool/main/g/gtk+3.0/libgail-3-0_3.24.33-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb
...
-- %<

i hope this makes it clear now, if u have further question, just ask,
i'm available the entire week 16x7 ;-) .

Best regards
Enrico

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1855892] Re: nvme SSD disk not appearing at S3 resume

2020-02-02 Thread Enrico Segre
Problem apparently solved (i.e., SDD wakes up from S3, can remove
"mem_sleep_default=shallow" from grub) with today's BIOS update to
2.0.2. Or with some firmware update associated with it. The problem with
Dell is that these firmware updates declare to address only obscure
security tickets, not the real problems...

Title:
  nvme SSD disk not appearing at S3 resume

Status in pm-utils package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  System apparently correctly suspends (in various ways - from gnome
  menu, with pm-suspend on bash, with echo ... > /sys/power/pm_test) and
  resumes bringing up X, gnome, consoles, mouse, keyboard - but not the
  nvme SSD. Since I have the OS on that, no command relying on disk
  files is recognized, and I'm forced to hard power off by long press on
  power button.

  Usually at resume it is possible to switch to consoles (Ctrl-Alt-Fn),
  which display a lot of messages about i/o errors and failing journal
  writes.

  bash may be still alive on either X or consoles, but it will
  understand only internal commands and thus it is not of much help even
  for shutting down the system cleanly.

  Tried to add the following options in various combinations on the
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX at no avail:

  acpiphp.disable=1
  nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=0
  acpi_osi=! \"acpi_osi=Windows 2015\"

  The only grub option helping is

  mem_sleep_default=shallow

  but that is a bit of no brainer since it suspends to S2 preventing S3.
  The same effect have

  echo s2idle > /sys/power/mem_sleep

  and

  echo freeze > /sys/power/state

  As for what is said in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend,
  I've tried pm-tracing but wasn't able to understand enough information
  from dmesg hash matches. As for debugging, all echos to
  /sys/power/pm_test resume correctly but the last, echo none, which
  causes the problem.

  The issue does not seem graphics related since X wakes up correctly
  (initially; it may crash later), and since the problem is identical
  even with no X (telinit 3).

  Hope all necessary debug information is automatically added, if not
  please ask.

Title:
  nvme SSD disk not appearing at S3 resume

  Tried to add the following options in various combinations on the
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX at no avail:

  acpiphp.disable=1
  nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=0
  acpi_osi=! \"acpi_osi=Windows 2015\"

  The only grub helping is

  mem_sleep_default=shallow

  but that is a bit of no brainer as it suspends to S2 preventing S3.
  The same effect have

  echo s2idle > /sys/power/mem_sleep

  and

  echo freeze > /sys/power/state

  As for what is said in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend,
  I've tried pm-tracing but wasn't able to understand enough information
  from dmesg hash matches. As for debugging, all echos to
  /sys/power/pm_test resume correctly but the last, echo none, which
  causes the problem.

  The issue does not seem graphics related as X wakes up correctly
  (initially; it may crash later), and as the problem is identical even
  with no X (telinit 3).

  Hope all necessary debug information is automatically added, if not
  please ask.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1855892] [NEW] nvme SSD disk not appearing at S3 resume

System apparently correctly suspends (in various ways - from gnome menu,
with pm-suspend on bash, with echo ... > /sys/power/pm_test) and resumes
bringing up X, gnome, consoles, mouse, keyboard - but not the nvme SSD.
Since I have the OS on that, no command relying on disk files is
recognized, and I'm forced to hard power off by long press on power

Usually at resume it is possible to switch to consoles (Ctrl-Alt-Fn),
which display a lot of messages about i/o errors and failing journal
writes.

bash may be still alive on either X or consoles, but it will understand
only internal commands and thus it is not of much help even for shutting
down the system cleanly.

Tried to add the following options in various combinations on the
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX at no avail:

acpiphp.disable=1

acpi_osi=! \"acpi_osi=Windows 2015\"

The only grub helping is

mem_sleep_default=shallow

but that is a bit of no brainer as it suspends to S2 preventing S3. The
same effect have

echo s2idle > /sys/power/mem_sleep

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1690933] Re: isc-dhcp-server/dhcpd listens on 0.0.0.0:67/UDP no matter which interfaces is specified

2018-10-23 Thread Enrico De Fent
In Ubuntu 18.04.1 it appears that the environment initialization file

  /etc/default/isc-dhcp-server

defines INTERFACESv4 and INTERFACESv6, but both the systemd unit files

  /lib/systemd/system/isc-dhcp-server.service
  /lib/systemd/system/isc-dhcp-server6.service

expand "INTERFACES".

P.S.: Sorry, I previously "updated" the bug description by mistakenly
committing the same description again, I did not alter it actually.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1591725] [NEW] Wifi network never enabled

2016-06-12 Thread Enrico
Public bug reported:

The wifi network worked fine while installing yakkety 16.10 from the 10
June's daily ISO. Now it doesn't work at all. The "enable Wifi" option
in the indicator (top bar) has not the tick, but if I tick that option
the wifi cards on the list still show "Wifi is not enabled"

I've attached the apt-get's history.log file. I can do a screenshot if
needed.

I think that could be a network-manager bug, but I'm not sure

  The wifi network worked fine while installing yakkety 16.10 from the
  10 June's daily ISO. Now it doesn't work at all. The "enable Wifi"
  option in the indicator (top bar) has not the tick, but if I tick that
  option the wifi cards on the list still show "Wifi is not enabled"

  I've attached the apt-get's history.log file. I can do a screenshot if
  needed.

  I think that could be a network-manager bug, but I'm not sure

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1539634] Re: network-manager crashes when using libnl-3-200 3.2.21-1ubuntu1

2016-05-23 Thread Enrico Rosina
Hello,

Thanks for the bug fix. Problem solved for me too, on Ubuntu 14.04.4
LTS.

After several days of manual "advanced" reboot, the problem disappeared
simply upgrading with this command:

sudo apt-get install network-manager

... which upgraded to this version:

network-manager 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3

Nice job, thank you again
Enrico

Title:
  network-manager crashes when using libnl-3-200 3.2.21-1ubuntu1

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in network-manager source package in Trusty:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Triage Notes]

  This regression is caused by a libnl proposed update tracked in bug
  1511735. It has not been released as an update, only proposed as an
  update for early testing. If you volunteered to test proposed updates,
  then thank you. Your care and attention will stop this regression from
  hitting ordinary users, and we appreciate your contribution to Ubuntu.

  If you are not aware that you volunteered to test proposed updates,
  then please be aware that your system is configured to do so. In this
  case, you probably should turn this off. I'd appreciate if someone
  could explain how to do this in the comments.

  [Impact]

   * NetworkManager depends on libnl (libnl-3-200 libnl-genl-3-200
     libnl-route-3-200) and when libnl is updated to proposed
     3.2.21-1ubuntu1 NM segfaults due to libnl exposing a bug in NM
     validation packets.

     This affects the 0.98 release of NetworkManager and has already
     been fixed in newer releases.

   * Backporting fixes from upstream release is required to prevent
     NetworkManager from faulting which breaks networking on most
     Desktop releases.

   * All patches applied are already accepted upstream and newer Ubuntu
     releases are not affected.

   * Upgrading NetworkManager to 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3 prior to updating
     libnl-3.2.21-1ubuntu1 is required to prevent NetworkManager crashing.

  [Test Case]

   * Reproduce crash test:
  1. Download 14.04.03 Desktop iso, amd64
  2. Launched in a VM, run from iso
  3. In terminal, enable proposed
  4. sudo apt-get install libnl-3-200 libnl-genl-3-200 libnl-route-3-200
  5. sudo restart network-manager
  # note the nm-applet disappears as NM has now crashed, no network
     conn.
  6. dmesg to confirm network-manager crash
  7. sudo dpkg --install
gir1.2-networkmanager-1.0_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
libnm-glib4_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
libnm-glib-vpn1_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
libnm-util2_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
network-manager_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
  8. sudo start network-manager
  # nm-applet reappears, network connectivity restored

   * Successful upgrade test:
     1. Download 14.04.03 Desktop iso, amd64
     2. Launched in a VM, run from iso
     3. In a terminal, sudo dpkg --install
gir1.2-networkmanager-1.0_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
libnm-glib4_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
libnm-glib-vpn1_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
libnm-util2_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
network-manager_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
     4. sudo restart network-manager # NM still runs, no crash, net up
     5. enable trusty-proposed in /etc/apt/sources.list
     6. sudo apt-get update
     7. sudo apt-get install libnl-3-200 libnl-genl-3-200 libnl-route-3-200
     8. sudo restart network-manager # NM still runs, no crash, net up.

  [Regression Potential]

   * NetworkManager is a highly visible package, so testing NetworkManager
     functionality is critical. The patch does address the crash specificly
     introduced by the updated libnl SRU.

   * We need to ensure that users have installed this NetworkManager
     update before installing libnl3 update (special phasing needed).

  [Original Description]
  Testing out proposed libnl-3 package[1] exposed a bug in NM 0.98.

  After installing updated libnl3 and restarting networkmanager, NM
  crashes with:

  /var/log/syslog shows:
  init: network-manager main process (1057) killed by SEGV signal
  init: network-manager main process ended, respawning
  init: network-manager main process (1065) killed by SEGV signal
  init: network-manager respawning too fast, stopped

  The bug has been fixed in upstream 0.98 with these patches:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/commit/?id=8e4576b9fdb5c888d20a13aa2cc198df790dba54

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/commit/?id=65981edb9f562c07e78815c98093da67c50bfdcf

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1574818] [NEW] Selected file from search is not actually selected

2016-04-25 Thread Enrico
Public bug reported:

I was looking for useless files in a folder and I've used the File's
search feature. It works fine, but when I search something (e.g. .SVG
files) the first file on the list appears selected, but it isn't!

I've found this bug because I tried to select all the files clicking on
the last one while holding SHIFT, but File selected only the item I've
clicked on. I can't explain the problem very well, so I've recorded a
video about this problem (see the attached file).

You can see that the first file looks selected (it's in orange), but
when I click on another file holding SHIFT, the selection goes only on
the file I've clicked and not on all files from the first one and the
one I've clicked on.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 995473] Re: no way to use dconf-editor with keyboard only

2015-12-22 Thread Enrico Bermudez
I really need to be able to navigate through dconf editor with just a keyboard!
 Any progress on this?
My issue is that everytime I try to upgrade to kernel 4.x, my touchpad stops
working properly. I can move the mouse, but can't click on anything. So after
several failed fixes, I'm trying to use dconf editor to ensure that the
touchpad is properly configured -- but I can't use dconf editor if I can't even
navigate thru the menus without my touchpad! (By the way, I'm on the road
right now, so I don't have access to any other mouse.)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1435287] Re: cups-browsed crashed with SIGSEGV in g_slist_foreach()

2015-03-31 Thread Enrico
The same bug happened in my installed version. It's quite hard to
reproduce for me because it happens randomly when I boot the PC. Which
log should I save when it happens?
