[Touch-packages] [Bug 1944404] [NEW] [HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia, playback] No sound at all

2021-09-20 Thread Larry Jordan
Public bug reported:

Hi...my problem is that I am using the nVidia GTX card connected by HDMI
cable to a widescreen Samsung monitor that doesn't have speakers.
Ubuntu assumes I can use that to play audio. In reality I'm using
stereo speakers connected to the "center" output from the rear of the
computer. This works fine in windows, but not in Ubuntu 20.04. I've
tried several fixes to similar looking issues on line, but still I don't
get sound. The only option I have under settings is for the
HDMI/DisplayPort 2 - GM107 High Definition audio controller [GE Force
940 MX]. I've tried an old solution by adding hdajackretask and I've
tried adjusting volume levels using alsamixer, but those solutions
didn't help. Anyone have any other ideas? Thanks in advance.

  Galaxy Book Ion, sof-hda-dsp detected but no soound (ubuntu 20.04)

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Ubuntu Release : ubuntu 20.04 LTS release 20.04
  Driver : alsa-base : 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu5

  On Galaxy Book Ion (model NP950XCJ-X01, from 2020)
  The audio device (AKG Stereo Speakers) is detected as : sof-hda-dsp
  Profile : Play HiFi quality music

  But I get no sound either from the speakers of headphone jack.
  Guessing a driver issue, hardware not properly detected.

  Note : Laptop was provided with windows10, sound is ok on windows (so
  it's not an hardware issue).

  Thanks.

  After reboot no Bluetooth devices connect, scanning Bluetooth devices works,
results with same device name (duplicated and with not set up status).
  Sometimes after several reboots it works.
  If I use power off and cycle power then it works fine each time.

  Actual:

  ```
  Letting the computer continue to idle, an error message shows up. I've
attached a picture because the error message does not show up in any logs.
  Possibly a duplicate of
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1872817, though
  the other user did not mention the same symptoms.
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1831388] [NEW] Wrong Scrolling Direction in Wi-Fi Networks Box
2019-06-02 Thread Jordan Taylor
Public bug reported:
To reproduce the bug:
Natural scrolling is turned on for trackpad scrolling.
1. Go the arrow in the top right corner pointing down
2. Click "Wi-Fi Not Connected" to expand the wifi info
3. Click "Select Network"
4. Scroll in the box titled "Wi-Fi Networks" subtitled "Select a Network" using
a trackpad
Rather than scrolling up on trackpad causing the list of networks to
scroll down it scrolls in the direction of motion on the trackpad,
violating the selected natural scrolling setting
Expected Behavior: Scroll Track-Pad Up Makes Screen Scroll Down & Scroll
Track-Pad Down Makes Screen Scroll Up
Current Behavior: Scroll Track-Pad Up Makes Screen Scroll Up & Scroll
Track-Pad Down Makes Screen Scroll Down
This also breaks Shibboleth since libapache2-mod-shib2 has a dependency
on libxmltooling7 which depends on libcurl3.
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
If installing libcurl3 alongside libcurl4 was possible this wouldn't be
an issue. Why is this not a high priority? It makes 18.04 unstable at
best.
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1596344] Re: pulseaudio causes long login delay waiting for bluetooth
2017-08-08 Thread Jordan
I guess I was mistaken about commenting out "load-module module-
bluetooth-policy" and "load-module module-bluetooth-discover", that did
not solve the problem for me.
A successful workaround though was to "sudo rm
/xdg/autostart/pulseaudio.desktop" which stops gnome-session from trying to
start start-pulseaudio-x11 (and block until it signals completion of startup,
which takes about 30 seconds).
Even without /xdg/autostart/pulseaudio.desktop pulse is being spawned by
something, as can be seen from "pgrep pulse", and I can play sounds
fine.
I am *not* recommending this as a general solution for everyone as I do
not know what ramifications there might be to not having
/xdg/autostart/pulseaudio.desktop that I just might not have noticed. I
assume that it is there for a reason.
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1596344] Re: pulseaudio causes long login delay waiting for bluetooth
2017-06-19 Thread Jordan
I have encountered this same bug delaying login with Ubuntu Gnome 16.04,
16.10, and 17.04. I am happy to apport-collect if that would be helpful.
I can also confirm that commenting out "load-module module-bluetooth-
policy" and "load-module module-bluetooth-discover" successfully worked
around the problem for me and also stopped the apport crash report
dialogs that I was getting at every login about pulseadio crashing.
  During install and oem-firstboot, the header bar at the top of the
  screen in Ubiquity is twice as tall as it should be on hidpi screens
  (looking like two normal sized header bars stacked on top of each
  other), and the blue a11y icon is double sized.
  This looks obviously incorrect and ugly and makes a bad first
  impression on users installing Ubuntu on a hidpi laptop or customers
  of Ubuntu OEMs booting new machines for the first time.  Arstechnica
  commented negatively on this in their review of Dell's XPS 13:
  http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/01/dells-latest-xps-13-de-still-
  delivers-linux-now-embraces-svelte-hardware/
  Users of the Dell XPS 13 are affected as well as users of other brands
  of laptops with hidpi screens.  System76 is temporarily carrying a
  patched version of Humanity to work around this bug.
  The a11y icon is double-sized because the version of Humanity shipping
  in Ubuntu doesn't support @2 hidpi scaling, which results in the
  header bar doubling its height.  Because the header bar is drawn with
  CAIRO_PAD_REPEAT, the gradient is repeated so it looks like two bars
  stacked one on top of the other.  The fix to the Humanity icon theme
  adds @2 hidpi support, which shrinks the icon and restores the header
  bar to its normal height.
  [Test Case]
  ISO install:
  1. Grab an Ubuntu iso and proceed to install (not "try") Ubuntu on a computer
with a hidpi screen.
  2. Note the double-sized header and icon during install.
  - Using an iso with a fixed version of Humanity, the header and icon
should look normal.
  OEM-Firstboot:
  1. Grab an Ubuntu iso and do an oem-install on on a computer with a hidpi
screen.
  2. After installing, click the launcher icon to "Prepare for shipping to the
end user" and reboot.
  3. During oem-firstboot, note the double-sized header and icon during install.
  - To test the fix, install a fixed version of humanity before preparing
the system for the end user.
  [Regression Potential]
  This patch affects the look of anything using the Humanity icon set.
  The look of Nautilus, and many other GTK apps will be affected.  This
  is not a regression but fixes another bug and resolves a discrepancy
  between rendering of icons on hidpi screens vs lowdpi screens.
  The biggest risk for regression comes from the off chance that there
  is an error or omission in the index.theme files.  Comparing icons on
  a broad range of applications and systems should catch this class of
  issues.  If any issues with icons are found, check there.
  Humanity icons are sometimes displayed too big on hidpi screens in
  16.04.  On both 16.04 and 16.10, different icons are used on hidpi
  screens than non-hidpi screens.  Sometimes the icons look similar but
  with much thinner strokes, while other times an icon with a different
  metaphor is used.  Users on hidpi screens will notice that icons in
  applications like Nautilus, Transmission, etc. look different (not
  just clearer) on hidpi screens.
  The fix here is to add support for @2 icons to the Humanity theme by
  adding symbolic links for @2 icons and updating the index.theme files
  accordingly.
  We should backport the fix to 16.04 and 16.10, so Humanity icons look
  the same on hidpi screens as non-hidpi screens.
  [Test Case]
  Here are a few test cases:
  1) Using a computer with hidpi screen and a computer with a lowdpi screen
both running Ubuntu 16.04: Open Nautilus and see that the icons on the hidpi
screen are much larger.  (This applies to icons on the desktop as well.)
  -The fix should result in icons being the same size on both hidpi and
lowdpi.
  2) Using a computer with a hidpi screen and one with a lowdpi screen running
Ubuntu 16.04 or 16.10: Open Transmission and see that the "Open" button in the
toolbar uses an icon with a different metaphor on hidpi screens (an up arrow
emerging from a folder) than on lowdpi screens (a sheet of paper emerging from
a folder).
  - The fix should result in the "sheet of paper emerging from a folder"
icon being used here on both hidpi and lowdpi screens.
  3) Using a computer with hidpi screen and a computer with a lowdpi screen
both running Ubuntu 16.10: Compare icons in Nautilus and see that the icons
look sutbly different.  The strokes in icons on the hidpi screen will be
visibly thinner on the hidpi screen because icons for bigger scale are used
(say 48 on hidpi instead of 24) rather than rendering the original size icon at
a larger resolution.
  - The fix should result in icons that have the same stroke width on hidpi
and lowdpi screens.  The icons will still be sharper on the hidpi screen, but
the lines won't be thinner.
  [Regression Potential]
  The patch is designed for compatibility where @2 support is not
  available by listing the @2 directories under "ScaledDirectories="
  rather than "Directories=".  However it's possible there could be
  other kinds of issues not found in testing.  If there are any
  omissions or errors in the index.theme, this could cause rendering
  issues for some categories of icons.  Comparing icons on a broad range
  of applications and systems should catch this class of issues.
  Hidpi users may find that their machine looks different after the
  update than it did before.  This is not a regression, but a fix to a
  bug that's been present all along.
  applications like Nautilus, Transmission, etc. look different (not
  just clearer) on hidpi screens.
  The fix here is to add support for @2 icons to the Humanity theme by
  adding symbolic links for @2 icons and updating the index.theme files
  accordingly.
  We should backport the fix to 16.04 and 16.10, so Humanity icons look
  the same on hidpi screens as non-hidpi screens.
Bug description:
  update Python3 for trusty.
  Rationale: the LTS was released with 3.4.0, the first 3.4 release
  which certainly had some issues. The idea is to update the python3.4
  packages to the version found in 15.04 (vivid), which currently
  doesn't have any outstanding issues.  A test rebuild of the trusty
  main component was done without showing any regressions during the
  package builds.
  To validate this SRU, I'm proposing to use the results from the test
  rebuild, plus evaluating the testsuite results of the python3.4
  package itself.
Note that while this particular bug, about missing ohci-pci in the
initramfs, is fixed in Ubuntu 15.04 another similar bug, missing xhci-
pci, is still present. The debian bug report about, and fix for, missing
xhci-pci is here: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
If you are experiencing these symptoms on Ubuntu 15.04 (USB keyboard
Title:
  Can't Copy Crash Report Details to Clipboard
Status in “apport” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Bug description:
  Often times, after receiving a crash report, if I click the Continue
  button it doesn't launch the browser for me to submit my crash to
  launchpad.net.
  Because of this, I'd always like to copy the crash report to my
  clipboard before clicking the continue button, so that I can manually
  provide this information into a bug report to launchpad.net.
  However, this option is not available.
  More over, there is absolutely *no way* to copy any text from this
  crash report's dialog window!
  1) You cannot ctrl-a to select all.
  2) Ctrl-c doesn't copy anything
  3) Right-clicking doesn't produce a context menu where you can select Copy.
  This is an unfinished design. You should always give the user the
  ability to copy any text displayed in the UI.
  Next to the Show/Hide details button, I suggest adding a Copy to
  Clipboard button. If not this, please offer some way to achieve this
  from the GUI.
