Another thing I noticed is a noticeably lower max output volume when using the stereo output device, I'm no sure if that's a bug or intended but now you know. As the picture shows the ppa seems to be working fine. The stereo device has the profiles, "Analog Stereo Output" and "Analog Mono Output + Analog Stereo Output + Analog Mono Input" but selecting the former profile automatically selects the mono device which is confusing to me.
