[Touch-packages] [Bug 2054482] [NEW] nfsroot=auto does not work, Ubuntu 22.04

2024-02-20 Thread Konstantin Olchanski
Public bug reported:

in scripts/nfs, there is provisions for nfsroot=auto to take NFSROOT
value from DHCP "root-path". But it does not work because DHCP root-path
option is not written to /run/net-enp1s0f0.conf by etc/dhcp/dhclient-
enter-hooks.d/config

to fix this, please add [echo "ROOTPATH='$new_root_path'"] somewhere in
etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/config, rebuild the initrd, copy it to
/tftpboot, reboot NFSROOT client, observe
ROOTPATH='192.168.0.248:/nfsroot/dsfe05' is present in /run/net-
enp1s0f0.conf, change pxelinux config file to say nfsroot=auto, it will
work now.

emacs -nw /usr/lib/initramfs-tools/etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/config
...
echo "ROOTSERVER='${new_routers%% *}'"
add this > echo "ROOTPATH='$new_root_path'"
echo "HOSTNAME='$new_host_name'"
echo "DNSDOMAIN='$new_domain_name'"
...

kwin might crash after running some time

Two commits have been reverted upstream since 22.2.x branch was
closed, needs those backported to fix this.

  [Test case]

Run kwin for a day or so, which is usually enough time to hit this.

Crash happens mostly on a notification popups, so system must be
actively receiving notifications to test the crash. Without that crash
may not happen even in a week of runtime.

  [Where things could go wrong]

This just reverts two commits, and they have been upstream for a few
months now, so these causing a regression is unlikely.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2003339] Re: kwin_x11: The X11 connection broke: I/O error (code 1)

2023-05-30 Thread Konstantin Petrov
Yes Gunter you might be correct. For me it is a freeze but seems related
since other people have reported the same issue stating the revert of
the two commits solved the freeze issue. There are no GPU hangs in the
kernel logs (I just wanted to stress that out). I guess I will open a
new bug report.

Bug description:

kwin might crash after running some time

Two commits have been reverted upstream since 22.2.x branch was
closed, needs those backported to fix this.

  [Test case]

Run kwin for a day or so, which is usually enough time to hit this.

Crash happens mostly on a notification popups, so system must be
actively receiving notifications to test the crash. Without that crash
may not happen even in a week of runtime.

  [Where things could go wrong]

This just reverts two commits, and they have been upstream for a few
months now, so these causing a regression is unlikely.

Perhaps every 2 days. Initially it is working find (let's say 2-3 days)
and once it hangs (note no GPU hang kernel logs) perhaps every day. I
have teams open in chrome browser with notifications on.

Ubuntu 23.04 kernel 6.2.0-20-generic still no luck. Speakers not working

Title:
[HP EliteBook 840 G8 Notebook PC, Realtek ALC245, Speaker, Internal]
No sound except loud crackling (popping) noise

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
New laptop with fresh installation of Xubuntu 22.04. Intel Tiger Lake-
LP audio controller. When playing any audio, the internal speaker
plays no sound except periodic loud crackling noise. The 3.5mm jack
does not work either, producing the same craclking noise alongside
some eletrical noise. HDMI audio skimmishly tested, but also gave no
sound. Curiously, USB headphone (along with microphone) works
  perfectly, also the internal microphone.

As attempts to fix the problem, I have tried the following separately, with
no avail:
  - Installing some Ubuntu OEM version of the 5.17 kernel
  - Updating to the v2.2 firmware from Sound Open Firmware Project
(thesofproject on github), reverted afterwards

I found exactly the same problem reported in the Fedora community:

https://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?328627-HP-Elitebook-840-G8-Tiger-Lake-audio-only-produces-popping-sound&p=1860086

As the pre-installed Windows has been destroyed, no further test on
  Windows has been done.

Since USB headphone and internal microphone work, I think that there
is no problem on the Intel Tiger Lake-LP controller and its driver.
The bug probably lies elsewhere, like in the handling of ALC245 on
  this new laptop model.

Thank you very much for your time and effort in advance.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1990903] [NEW] Openconnect crashes on auth dialog

2022-09-26 Thread Konstantin
Public bug reported:

The authentication dialog of openconnect crashes.

Steps to reproduce:

Add net vpn connection in Gui:
* Settings -> Network -> VPN -> +
* Selecct "Multi-protocol vpn client (openconnect)"
* Select "Cisco AnyConnect or openconnect"
* Enter as gateway "vpn.sydney.edu.au"
* Click "Add"
* Activate the newly added VPN
* Click "Connect"

Now the login window briefly shows up before it disappears without error
message or anything.

The syslog contains the following lines indicating that the
authentication dialog segfaulted.

No sound except loud crackling (popping) noise

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
New laptop with fresh installation of Xubuntu 22.04. Intel Tiger Lake-
LP audio controller. When playing any audio, the internal speaker
plays no sound except periodic loud crackling noise. The 3.5mm jack
does not work either, producing the same craclking noise alongside
some eletrical noise. HDMI audio skimmishly tested, but also gave no
sound. Curiously, USB headphone (along with microphone) works
  perfectly, also the internal microphone.

As attempts to fix the problem, I have tried the following separately, with
no avail:
  - Installing some Ubuntu OEM version of the 5.17 kernel
  - Updating to the v2.2 firmware from Sound Open Firmware Project
(thesofproject on github), reverted afterwards

I found exactly the same problem reported in the Fedora community:

https://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?328627-HP-Elitebook-840-G8-Tiger-Lake-audio-only-produces-popping-sound&p=1860086

As the pre-installed Windows has been destroyed, no further test on
  Windows has been done.

Since USB headphone and internal microphone work, I think that there
is no problem on the Intel Tiger Lake-LP controller and its driver.
The bug probably lies elsewhere, like in the handling of ALC245 on
  this new laptop model.

Thank you very much for your time and effort in advance.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1910913] Re: Deprecating gdebi

2022-06-09 Thread Konstantin
Oh, wait, so are you saying gdebi contains a graphical interface??
Sorry, I never knew that. I used to only ever seeing suggestions about
gdebi in the context of command line usage. That kind of changes
everything. Yeah, sure, in this case it would make sense to keep gdebi
in the repo.

I'll close the bug in this case.

> gdebi is / was a graphical enough utility for that purpose, but… see
picture attached.

That's sad indeed. I think that deserves a separate bugreport though.

But from my reading of docs, it seems that `gdebi --root=/foo
  myfile.deb` would be analogous to `apt install -o Dpkg::Options::="--
  root=/foo" ./myfile.deb`.

So, my suggesttion: installing gdebi on currently supported releases
should print a deprecation notice that explains how a user can install
local files with `apt` instead. Then eventually remove gdebi from
  repositories.

I tried contacting maintainers of gdebi to ask whether it's worth
adding a deprecation notice, but haven't found any ways to do that,
and so I went straight to creating a report here.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1946623] [NEW] Asia/Novosibirsk zoneinfo file contains string 'Asia/Novosibirsk' instead of actual zone info

2021-10-11 Thread Konstantin Boyandin
Public bug reported:

OS: Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS
tzdata package: 2021a-2ubuntu0.18.04

Problem: the packages updates file

/usr/share/zoneinfo/Asia/Novosibirsk

with 17-byte file containing string 'Asia/Novosibirsk', instead of
actual zone info file.

The above leads to multiple hard to handle issues with a number of
installed software (e.g. PHP function mktime() begins to segfault
without a reason).

To fix that, I copy a valid file from 20.04.* distribution's latest
tzdata.

The above (mentioned file replacement) happens periodically without any
visible logic in it.

2021-06-15 Thread Konstantin
FTR, on Archlinux this option is also not used, however the `--type
writecache` works fine. So either something changed in later versions,
or it might be that some other `configure` option is needed. The
Archlinux `lvm version` output is:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1910913] [NEW] Deprecating gdebi

2021-01-10 Thread Konstantin
Public bug reported:

Purpose of gdebi is to allow installing packages from a file. However,
it's been 6 years since apt supported installation from a file¹. Let's
make it easier on both maintainers and the people who have to
install/use `gdebi` and then may need to search nuances, like passing
options to dpkg.

As far as I read gdebi man page, its functional seems fully covered by
apt. The only thing I'm a bit in doubts about is the `root` option. But
from my reading of docs, it seems that `gdebi --root=/foo myfile.deb`
would be analogous to `apt install -o Dpkg::Options::="--root=/foo"
./myfile.deb`.

So, my suggesttion: installing gdebi on currently supported releases
should print a deprecation notice that explains how a user can install
local files with `apt` instead. Then eventually remove gdebi from
repositories.

I tried contacting maintainers of gdebi to ask whether it's worth adding
a deprecation notice, but haven't found any ways to do that, and so I
went straight to creating a report here.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1897709] [NEW] iproute2 is missing libnetlink.h and libnetlink.a

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1847631] [NEW] Bug with start of the system Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

2019-10-10 Thread Konstantin
Public bug reported:

I am russian, so my English level is too low, I'll do my best.
Technical characteristics is: Ryzen 3 2200U, Radeon Vega 3, RAM 8 Gb, 256 Gb
SSD, IPS display 1920*1080 (if you need). Features is right, if you need a
model of the laptop: Lenovo Ideapad 330-15ARR.
Problem:
When I launch my laptop, in 3 of 4 cases it start with bugs. The most often
problem is lack of Wi-fi connection when this module work. It is showing that's
happening tries to connect to saved network, but nothing else. It resolves to
open laptop's cover again. Second problem is black screen or hovering screen
when system turns on. Well, in this case I reboot all computer again and again
until it won't be normal. Usually, it takes about 3-4 times, no more.

These problems on Russian:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1826968] [NEW] tzdata package contains invalid entry for Asia/Novosibirsk

2019-04-29 Thread Konstantin Boyandin
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu version: 16.04.6

Problem: in the latest release of tzdata (2019a-0ubuntu0.16.04) the
entry for Asia/Novosibirsk consists of text file with the below line
only:

Asia/Novosibirsk

Apart from not working as /etc/localtime, it also creates cryptic errors
in other packages (such as PHP complaining on invalid date/time
database).

After I replaced the above file with the one from Ubuntu 18.04.2
tzdata's latest release, the error was gone.

...so the bogus nilfs2 checksum failure is causing udev to not create
the ID_PART_ENTRY_UUID and similar entries (and hence the /dev/disk
/by-partuuid link) and is breaking my ceph setup.

I think this is related to this upstream issue:
  https://github.com/karelzak/util-linux/issues/361

...this is quite a serious bug, as it's causing unrelated software
  (ceph) to break.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1781294] Re: No sound card detected by PulseAudio and ALSA, but is visible in lspci [Dell XPS 13 9360]

2018-11-03 Thread Konstantin Yegupov
Daniel, the audio card id string seems to be the same, so I suspect it
might be the same issue.

Anyway, I have found the culprit. Sound card was intercepted by another
process (timidity), so Pulseaudio was unable to use it.

I have discovered the offending process via the `sudo fuser /dev/snd/*`
command.

Uninstalling timidity has solved the issue.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1774854] [NEW] password verification fixes keyboard input source

2018-06-03 Thread Konstantin Karandashev
Public bug reported:

As the software updater requested admin password for verification, I

2018-04-24 Thread Konstantin Pavlov
I should also add that this is only activating when
XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=KDE is set and when Qt5 tries to launch kio/ksysoca

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1766628] Re: apparmor denies VLC to open files in devmode

2018-04-24 Thread Konstantin Pavlov
The same happens with VLC snap on Ubuntu 18.04 beta.

LC_ALL=C XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=KDE snap run vlc -vvv results in the same
UI issues when opening a file dialog, and the attached apparmor denials
in messages.txt, with attached snap.vlc.vlc.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1002978] Re: [meta-bug] Inverted Internal microphone (phase inversion)

Title:
[meta-bug] Inverted Internal microphone (phase inversion)

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This is a metabug for all machines that are having phase inverted
  internal microphones.

If your internal mic is either completely silent (no signal), or you
can possibly pick a very small sound, with much background noise, even
though you have set gain to maximum, there is something you could try.

Install the pavucontrol application, start it and go to the "Input Devices"
tab. Unlock the channels (there is a keylock icon), then mute the right channel
while keeping the left channel at the volume you want.
If the internal mic is now working correctly, you have an inverted internal
mic, so that your right channel cancels out the left one.

(If you're not running PulseAudio, you can try doing the same through
AlsaMixer instead (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/Alsamixer ), try
changing "Capture" level or "Internal Mic" or "Internal Mic Boost"
  using the Q,E,Z,C keys.)

If so, please file a separate bug against the alsa-driver for your
issue, make sure hardware info gets attached to it (either alsa-info
as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo or the standard ones
that follows when you do "ubuntu-bug alsa-driver" ), then write a
comment in this bug, with your machine name and a pointer to the other
  bug.

As time permits, I'll try to work on fixing them for the next Ubuntu release.
Thanks!

Bug description:
New keyboard layout changer in Ubuntu 13.10 introduce old-new bug. Any
system or application hotkey witch use char (for example: ctrl+alt+t for
terminal or ctrl+t for new tab in browser) become unfunctional when selected
non-latin keyboard layout.
Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works perfectly.

Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system
parameters->keyboard->hotkeys->windows works perfect with any keyboard
  layout.

Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non-
latin): rebind all hotkeys in your local layout. For example instead
of ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with
english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin
layouts this workaround helps only with one of them.

  Dear Ubuntu users and developers!
Please include the following information to your comment about non-latin
shortcuts problems:
  1. What Ubuntu version do you have (Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.10 GNOME, Ubuntu
14.04, Ubuntu 14.04 GNOME and so on), upgraded (describe version) or clean
installed
  2. What keyboard layout do you have
  3. What shortcut for keyboard layout switching do you use
  4. On which session you have problems - that is one from Unity, GNOME Shell,
GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Metacity), GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Compiz)
  5. With which program and its version and origin (Ubuntu repositories, PPA,
non-deb binary package from some website) you have problems.

By providing this information you can make bug-fixing much simpler and
  may be faster.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1342875] Re: Unable to delete currently logged in user

2014-10-03 Thread Konstantin Pavlov
As a temporary workaround for tools like waagent -deprovision+user, I
can suggest rm -f /etc/sub{g,u}id{-} before running the waagent.

Hope it'll get fixed sooner than later because this really is a huge
problem.

Bug description:
A user can not delete themselves using the command 'sudo userdel -rf
', this is common in cloud tools that clean up running
images prior to capture. A quick test shows that this worked from
Precise (didn't look back further) to Raring and stopped working with
  Saucy.

Here's a quick example of the failure (from trusty):
  # sudo adduser test
  # sudo usermod -aG sudo test
  ## As the 'test' user
  # sudo userdel -rf test
userdel: user test is currently used by process 9600
  userdel: cannot open /etc/subuid
  ## User is not removed

  Previously (output from precise)
  # sudo userdel -rf test
userdel: user test is currently logged in
userdel: warning: can't remove /var/mail/test: No such file or directory
  ## User is removed

This is being run as the last command by tools that remove the
'ubuntu' user to clean the image prior to capture. This had
previously worked and it is preferable that this could be made to work
again. The alternative is removal by root, but the root user on cloud
images is locked down and we would not want the user to enable root to
run userdel on the risk of it not getting disabled properly prior to
  image capture.
