[Touch-packages] [Bug 1980937] Re: [HP EliteBook 840 G8 Notebook PC, Realtek ALC245, Speaker, Internal] No sound except loud crackling (popping) noise

Intel Tiger Lake- LP audio controller. When playing any audio, the internal speaker plays no sound except periodic loud crackling noise. The 3.5mm jack does not work either, producing the same craclking noise alongside some eletrical noise. HDMI audio skimmishly tested, but also gave no sound. Curiously, USB headphone (along with microphone) works perfectly, also the internal microphone. As attempts to fix the problem, I have tried the following separately, with no avail: - Installing some Ubuntu OEM version of the 5.17 kernel - Updating to the v2.2 firmware from Sound Open Firmware Project (thesofproject on github), reverted afterwards I found exactly the same problem reported in the Fedora community: https://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?328627-HP-Elitebook-840-G8-Tiger-Lake-audio-only-produces-popping-sound&p=1860086 As the pre-installed Windows has been destroyed, no further test on Windows has been done. Since USB headphone and internal microphone work, I think that there is no problem on the Intel Tiger Lake-LP controller and its driver. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1910913] Re: Deprecating gdebi
Oh, wait, so are you saying gdebi contains a graphical interface?? Sorry, I never knew that. I used to only ever seeing suggestions about gdebi in the context of command line usage. That kind of changes everything. Yeah, sure, in this case it would make sense to keep gdebi in the repo. I'll close the bug in this case. > gdebi is / was a graphical enough utility for that purpose, but… see picture attached. That's sad indeed. I think that deserves a separate bugreport though. ** Changed in: gdebi (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to gdebi in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910913 Title: Deprecating gdebi Status in gdebi package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Purpose of gdebi is to allow installing packages from a file. However, it's been 6 years since apt supported installation from a file¹. Let's make it easier on both maintainers and the people who have to install/use `gdebi` and then may need to search nuances, like passing options to dpkg. As far as I read gdebi man page, its functional seems fully covered by apt. The only thing I'm a bit in doubts about is the `root` option. But from my reading of docs, it seems that `gdebi --root=/foo myfile.deb` would be analogous to `apt install -o Dpkg::Options::="-- root=/foo" ./myfile.deb`. So, my suggesttion: installing gdebi on currently supported releases should print a deprecation notice that explains how a user can install local files with `apt` instead. Then eventually remove gdebi from repositories. I tried contacting maintainers of gdebi to ask whether it's worth adding a deprecation notice, but haven't found any ways to do that, and so I went straight to creating a report here. 1: https://mvogt.wordpress.com/2015/11/30/apt-1-1-released/ To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdebi/+bug/1910913/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1910913] [NEW] Deprecating gdebi
Public bug reported: Purpose of gdebi is to allow installing packages from a file. But from my reading of docs, it seems that `gdebi --root=/foo myfile.deb` would be analogous to `apt install -o Dpkg::Options::="--root=/foo" ./myfile.deb`. 1: https://mvogt.wordpress.com/2015/11/30/apt-1-1-released/ ** Affects: gdebi (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Purpose of gdebi is to allow installing packages from a file. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1781294] Re: No sound card detected by PulseAudio and ALSA, but is visible in lspci [Dell XPS 13 9360]
Daniel, the audio card id string seems to be the same, so I suspect it might be the same issue. Anyway, I have found the culprit. Sound card was intercepted by another process (timidity), so Pulseaudio was unable to use it. I have discovered the offending process via the `sudo fuser /dev/snd/*` command. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1002978] Re: [meta-bug] Inverted Internal microphone (phase inversion)
Same problem on Lenovo G50-80 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1002978 Title: [meta-bug] Inverted Internal microphone (phase inversion) Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This is a metabug for all machines that are having phase inverted internal microphones. If your internal mic is either completely silent (no signal), or you can possibly pick a very small sound, with much background noise, even though you have set gain to maximum, there is something you could try. Install the pavucontrol application, start it and go to the "Input Devices" tab. Unlock the channels (there is a keylock icon), then mute the right channel while keeping the left channel at the volume you want. If the internal mic is now working correctly, you have an inverted internal mic, so that your right channel cancels out the left one. (If you're not running PulseAudio, you can try doing the same through AlsaMixer instead (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/Alsamixer ), try changing "Capture" level or "Internal Mic" or "Internal Mic Boost" using the Q,E,Z,C keys.) If so, please file a separate bug against the alsa-driver for your issue, make sure hardware info gets attached to it (either alsa-info as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo or the standard ones that follows when you do "ubuntu-bug alsa-driver" ), then write a comment in this bug, with your machine name and a pointer to the other bug. As time permits, I'll try to work on fixing them for the next Ubuntu release. Any system or application hotkey witch use char (for example: ctrl+alt+t for terminal or ctrl+t for new tab in browser) become unfunctional when selected non-latin keyboard layout. Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works perfectly. Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system parameters->keyboard->hotkeys->windows works perfect with any keyboard layout. Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non- latin): rebind all hotkeys in your local layout. For example instead of ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin layouts this workaround helps only with one of them. Dear Ubuntu users and developers! Please include the following information to your comment about non-latin shortcuts problems: 1. What Ubuntu version do you have (Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.10 GNOME, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 14.04 GNOME and so on), upgraded (describe version) or clean installed 2. What keyboard layout do you have 3. What shortcut for keyboard layout switching do you use 4. On which session you have problems - that is one from Unity, GNOME Shell, GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Metacity), GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Compiz) 5. With which program and its version and origin (Ubuntu repositories, PPA, non-deb binary package from some website) you have problems.
