- I did the PPA upgrade under upstart, then shutdown/restarted the system, got connection timeouts, acquired terminal using Ctrl+Alt+F1, created jounal1.txt. - Attempted to boot the system with default systemd option successfully and sent you the email with jornal1.txt file. - Since then, I'm booting the system using default systemd option successfully (this is third time that I got booted without connection timeouts) - Please let me check this a few more times, I'll inform you if got connection timeouts again. Applied the patch successfully but failed to reboot with the same symptoms, created journal1.txt please find attached herewith. On second attempt systemd worked fine. Pls note yesterday applied partial upgrade as well. Hello, Following your email, I attempted to get terminal log-in screen using ctrl+alt+F2 but, on each attempt, got a window informing that "System is running in low graphic mode. Your screen, graphic card, input devices could not be detected correctly. You'll have to configure these manually" providing various recovery options after pressing "ok" button at the bottom of the window, but none of the option worked and system seemed in the same loop. Surprisingly, during these attempts two or three times system booted normally without any problems but most of the attempts got failed. Lastly I used Ctrl+Alt+F1, that gave me log-in screen and finally I successfully logged-in and created journal.txt. Please note, while creating journal.txt, screen used to get blank continuously after few seconds and pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 kept on refreshing the screen. Please see the attached journal.txt, hope this is what you required. Used Ctrl+Alt+Del to reboot and selected Upstart option which successfully booted the system but showing a message like "Upstart; Error while reading from descriptor, broken pipe." On my next attempt to boot using default systemd option I observed a message like "Systemd(1) Failed to setup API Bus. Connection timed out." , and then saw a window saying like "running low graphic" and then went into the same loop. Now, I can boot using Upstart option only not the systemd option. I'm using Dell Optiplex 755 with NVIDIA 8400GS Graphic card, Ubuntu 15.10 is installed on a external HD connected with one of external usb port.
