Title:
iconv error on command line for bg_BG on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, Hunspell
1.3.3

Status in hunspell package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed

Bug description:
While trying to run Hunspell on the command line for the Bulgarian
locale, I get the following error:

   $ hunspell -d bg_BG
   error - iconv_open: UTF-8 -> microsoft-cp1251
   Hunspell 1.3.3

Operating system: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

I guess the solution would be to reencode the dictionary as UTF-8?

I tried to supply the -i parameter, but without any luck.

Originally reported at:

And patched in that repo:

https://github.com/hunspell/hunspell/commit/3b837d8cb6125820202da9dc8721ffc92a7ce19b

And fixed in LibreOffice:
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=117392

The bug is still there in Linux Mint though. Version info:

Linux version 4.15.0-45-generic (buildd@lgw01-amd64-031) (gcc version
7.3.0 (Ubuntu 7.3.0-16ubuntu3)) #48-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jan 29 16:28:13 UTC
2019

@(#) International Ispell Version 3.2.06 (but really Hunspell 1.6.2)

Package version for hunspell-bg: 1:6.0.3-3

Port to python3-launchpadlib

Status in apport package in Ubuntu:
Triaged

Bug description:
Apport-cli depends on python3-launchpadlib for some actions, but it is
not installable (currently). For example,

apport-cli -u 542452
ERROR: The launchpadlib Python module is not installed. This functionality is
not available.

The current candidates for installation on raring only include python-
launchpadlib (which is python2 based). I believe this bug is
relevant:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpadlib/+bug/1060734

I'm filing this against apport in the event raring is shipped without
a python3-launchpadlib package. I would recommend updating the error
to make what is needing to be installed more clear. IE,

ERROR: The launchpadlib Python3 module is not installed
(python3-launchpadlib). This functionality is not available.

Also consider adding the library as a suggested dependency. In
addition, should the package not land, further steps may be required.

Hello,

I'm discovering a bug when printing complex PDFs or other complex
documents from GTK applications. Printing complex PDFs from evince, or
sometimes even printing comples webpages from firefox result in one
error page being printed instead of the document content:

+-+
ERROR NAME;

COMMAND;
Q
OPERAND STACK;
+-+

My printer is a Brother HL 5270DN. It doesn't matter whether the
printer is connected via USB or as network printer. In both cases the
described bug does happen. The PPD I use is "Brother HL-5270DN BR-
Script3", similar to the one at
http://www.openprinting.org/download/PPD/Brother/BR5270_2_GPL.ppd

I discovered this bug in up-to-date Debian unstable for several years
already. Now I switched one of my laptops to Ubuntu Natty (fresh
installation), and unfortunately discovered the same bug there as
well.

I'm pretty sure that this bug is related to bug #419143, and not
really in CUPS, but rather in some library (poppler or cairo) used by
GTK applications. The same PDFs that produce the described error in
evince, print fine in okular.

I attach an example PDF that doesn't print in evince, but prints fine
in okular. It's sufficient to (try to) print page 1 of the document.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1224621] Re: Removing libunity9 also removes nautilus and other packages

2015-11-06 Thread Pander
Nautilus, is the official file manager for the GNOME desktop, so it
might suggest Unity packages but it should not depend on them. The
implementation can be made in such way that when Unity is not installed,
there should not be a problem.

Same goes for empathy and thunderbird-gnome-support. Ubunty should give
its users more freedom in choosing that to install and not push Unity (I
have seen too many hard dependencies) or it is going to loose users to
e.g. Debian.

Bug description:
Apport-cli depends on python3-launchpadlib for some actions, but it is
not installable (currently). For example,

apport-cli -u 542452
ERROR: The launchpadlib Python module is not installed. This functionality is
not available.

The current candidates for installation on raring only include python-
launchpadlib (which is python2 based). I believe this bug is
relevant:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpadlib/+bug/1060734

I'm filing this against apport in the event raring is shipped without
a python3-launchpadlib package. I would recommend updating the error
to make what is needing to be installed more clear. IE,

ERROR: The launchpadlib Python3 module is not installed
(python3-launchpadlib). This functionality is not available.

Also consider adding the library as a suggested dependency. In
addition, should the package not land, further steps may be required.

Now it can only cut off characters at the end of a string, but for

[Touch-packages] [Bug 132459] Re: Store intensively accessed cache files in /tmp instead of in nfs-mounted /home

packagers should look at when packaging?

Title:
Store intensively accessed cache files in /tmp instead of in nfs-
mounted /home

Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu:
Invalid

Bug description:
Some applications like Google Earth, Povray and many many more store
volatile but intensively accessed cache files in /home. When /home is
NFS-mounted this causes for unnecessary network load and processing
power which slows down the local network and the application.

When these applications are aware that their cache directory is in an
NFS-mounted location, the could (or perhaps should) store their
volatile but intensively accessed cache files in /tmp. (Of course with
the proper accessing rights.)

This features should be implemented in the applications themselves.
These will have to be identified first. Perhaps also the system has to
have to information that it is desirable that in case /home is NSF-
mounted, that these applications store their volatile but intensively
accessed cache files in /tmp. Or the system can confirm that all
should be in /home no matter if it is NFS-mounted of not.

Implementing this feature will allow for less network traffic, less
