For others who end up here unable to activate Livepatch because of this
bug, here is how you can activate it from the command line:
1. sudo snap install canonical-livepatch
2. go to https://auth.livepatch.canonical.com and generate a token.
3. sudo canonical-livepatch enable
and you're done.

Normal keyboard and mouse activity causes the screen timeout to be
reset; however if you are just using the touch screen, scrolling,
tapping etc, the screen timeout doesn't notice and the screen eventually
blanks unless you use the mouse or keyboard again.

This bug continues in 15.04. Desktop is apparently never redrawn, so
when I close or minimise a window, it leaves behind ghosts of the
animation as it minimises.

I spoke too soon. Although it doesn't happen so quickly now, and the
ghosts left behing don't flicker anymore, the desktop eventually does
not get redrawn, leaving ghosts of what was on the screen behind.

Desktop/wallpaper flickers dreadfully

Since 14.10 the only way to use the system is with apps full-screen,
because the background/desktop is constantly flickering. If you close a
window, it leaves flickering ghosts of itself, like a nightmare. See
enclosed ogv file for an example.
