Bug description:
Today (December 16, 2014) I tried to run gvncviewer to connect to
sharcnet, a supercomputing cluster for Canadian academics. This has
worked perfectly in the past on the same computer as recently as
December 13, 2014. I have no idea what has changed but this seems to
  be a serious dbus bug.

I am running Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS (Xubuntu), 64-bit.

  dbus version is 1.6.18-0ubuntu4.3.

Specifically, the error i get is:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1380115] Re: tooltip missing

2014-12-13 Thread Thaddäus Tintenfisch
You can easily restore and use the classic tray icon which is provided
by xfce4-power-manager. Do not forget to remove the indicator-power
package.

Since indicator-power is maintained by the Ubuntu Desktop developers, I
am not sure if they are willing to change its behavior/functionality to
mimic something different. On top of that, Xubuntu 14.10 has dropped
indicator-power in favor of the new xfce4-power-manager panel plugin.

** Package changed: xfce4-power-manager (Ubuntu) = indicator-power
(Ubuntu)

When the computer goes to sleep, it freezes to a black screen with a
single text cursor frozen (not blinking.). If I try to go to TTY1, it
goes there, but upon entering my user name, it freezes and doesn't do
anything. This happened since I got a mysterious Ubuntu 14.10 update.
(It didn't ask me if I wanted to update, it just popped up saying I
needed to reboot my computer, and I couldn't find any records as to
  what update it actually was).

I have tried both Xubuntu (what I'm using now) and regular Ubuntu,
both are doing the same thing.

Sleep mode used to work just fine since 13.10, now it's broken. This
is a laptop and needs sleep mode to work, as I can't sit there waiting

Title:
Performance degraded and video glitches with i915 after upgrade to
  utopic

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
After upgrading from trusty to utopic, I noticed a performance
degradation in the video performance. In particular the flash plugin
video (like youtube) starts OK but it degrades after a couple of
seconds when in full screen, looking as if it was doing something like
10~15 fps with videos that worked fine before. When switching to
windowed more again, the video goes more smoothly but the seek bar
blinks and other parts of the video present some glitches.

Also when switching from X to a console, via Ctrl-Alt-F1 for example, it
takes like 2 seconds to get the console, and I see this message in the console:
[ 184.436477] [drm:intel_enable_lvds] *ERROR* timed out waiting for panel to
power on

When switching back to X is fast as usual, but when switching back to
the console, again 2 seconds delay and the message.

Other weird looking messages are found in dmesg:
[4.673834] [drm] GMBUS [i915 gmbus panel] timed out, falling back to bit
banging on pin 3
  [...]
  [4.732400] [drm] Wrong MCH_SSKPD value: 0x16040307
[4.732404] [drm] This can cause pipe underruns and display issues.
[4.732406] [drm] Please upgrade your BIOS to fix this.

Unfortunately there is no BIOS update for my notebook (Toshiba Z830).
I've search for all those errors without any significant results.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 967232] Re: unable to load desktop session in xubuntu precise

Sorry for not answering again. Are there any news on this issue? Did you
already upgrade to 14.04 or do you plan to do so? It would be
interesting to know if this problem persists or not.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1297144] Re: Invisible cursor after resume from suspend

Title:
Invisible cursor after resume from suspend

Status in “light-locker” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I am using the daily build of Xubuntu 14.04 x64 on a Lenovo Thinkpad
x230. If I wake up the computer after it spending some time in the
suspend state, the cursor will be invisible. The courser still works
(I can click on stuff and hover the invisible cursor over stuff), but
the little arrow is not visible. This bug showed up a few days ago
after an update. Putting the computer back in suspend state and
immediately waking it back up resolves the issue until the next time
the computer is put in suspend state for an extended period of time.

It is possible that this bug has something to do with Whisker Menu.
Sometimes when the courser is invisible it will still show up over
Whisker Menu. Most of the time it is invisible there too.

Description: Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch)
  Release: 14.04
xfdesktop version 4.11.4, running on Xfce 4.10

  DESCRIPTION:
network-manager: My eth0 and wlan0 cards are managed by the
network-manager and this works fine.

/etc/network/interfaces: My 2 bridges br0 and br1 are managed in
/etc/network/interfaces as follows:
  ...
  iface br0 inet static
   address 192.168.10.1
   netmask 255.255.255.0
   dns-nameservers 192.168.10.2
   bridge_ports none
   bridge_stp off
   bridge_fd 0
   bridge_maxwait 0

  iface br1 inet static
   address 192.168.0.1
   netmask 255.255.255.0
   dns-nameservers 192.168.0.2
   bridge_ports none
   bridge_stp off
   bridge_fd 0
   bridge_maxwait 0
  ...

When I now bring up the bridge interfaces using:
  sudo ifup br0 br1
Then they show up fine in ifconfig.
  BUT dns-nameservers 192.168.10.2 and dns-nameservers 192.168.0.2 DO NOT
show up in /etc/resolv.conf

WORKAROUND: Until this has been fixed the following workaround works fine for
me:
  sudo vi /etc/resolvconf/interface-order
#Add the following entry (this entry can be put on any line BUT it has to
come before the last entry *):
  ...
  br*
  ...
  *

PS: Based on the workaround in /etc/resolvconf/interface-order I
think the issue is in package resolvconf otherwise I would have
reported the error against the ifupdown scripts.

In Xubuntu 14.04 I can still load the GTK3 theme, but not the GTK2

  Workaround:
  Load the themes from ~/.themes.

  Downside:
  Cluttered home directory.

  How to reproduce:
  1. Download a theme and put in in ~/.themes.
  2. Open settings manager and a GTK3 app. (I used gedit.)
  3. Apply the downloaded theme.
  So far everything should work.

  4. Move the downloaded theme to ~/.local/share/themes.
  5. Apply another theme and reapply the downloaded one.
At this point only the GTK2 theme is loaded.

Screen switches off some seconds after wake up from suspend

Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I was running Xubuntu 12.04 on a Thinkpad X40 which has an Intel 855GM
graphics chip. On 12.04 suspend worked flawlessly. Yesterday I
upgraded to 14.04 and this broke suspend. The problem is like this: I
close the lid, the laptop goes to sleep. After some time I open the
lid, the screen goes on and if I'm fast I can even start typing in the
password. However, some seconds later the screen switches off again,
though I can hear that the system continues working. I can still
switch to any TTY, only X has no graphical output. If I kill X from
TTY, it starts again, I can login and then the system works as
expected. In /var/log/Xorg.0.log I see following lines:

(II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch
(II) AIGLX: Resuming AIGLX clients after VT switch
(II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch

which exactly fits to my observations: On lid close the screen goes
off, on opening the lid it goes on and then after some seconds off
  again.

Title:
Blank screen after resume if lid closed

Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have a Lenovo G570 laptop (Intel Sandy Bridge graphics). If I
suspend via the user interface, then resume by pressing the power
button, everything works. However, when closing the lid to suspend, I
  observe the following sequence:

  1. Close lid, wait a few seconds for suspend.
  2. Open lid. Laptop starts up, light-locker screen is visible.
  3. Type password into light-locker, hit enter.
  4. Screen goes blank. It is totally black i.e. it seems that the backlight is
off.

Moving the mouse, pressing keys or trying to change the brightness
with the keyboard shortcut does not bring back the display. I can get
a console by C-A-F1 and then restart lightdm to get a working display
  again.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 929054] Re: AltGr key doesn't work properly in xfce4-terminal and gnome-terminal with Maori layout, and Hawaiian is not supported

AltGr key doesn't work properly in xfce4-terminal and gnome-terminal
with Maori layout, and Hawaiian is not supported

Status in “console-setup” package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in “vte” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I just installed xfce4-xkb-plugin in order to select various keyboard
layout. I soon found out that the AltGr key isn't working properly in
  xfce4-terminal, gnome-terminal and pterm. I am running the 64-bit
version of xubuntu 11.10 and 12.04 on my Compaq computer, and the
32-bit version of 12.04 on a Shuttle computer.

  .
  Updated 2012-04-03:
This also affects 32-bit versions of Ubuntu and Xubuntu 11.10 and 12.04
beta-2. It also affects the current Linux Mint. ALSO, note that other layouts
with AltGr now work properly when Maori is not in the list. Also I have added
lack of Hawaiian support to this bug. I am now updated to the Beta-2 version of
xubuntu on the Compaq 12.04 system, and Ubuntu 12.04 beta-2 on the shuttle.
  .

For example, select the Maori keyboard layout. This layout enters
vowels with macrons like āēīōūĀĒĪŌŪ when the AltGr key is held on.
(This does work in Firefox, which I'm using to enter this report, and
also in xterm, but also fails in pterm. It does work in AbiWord).
Various other layouts use AltGr, for example the US alt-intl layout
uses AltGr plus the minus key as a dead key for entering vowels with
macrons - those do not work under xfce4-terminal and pterm, but do
work in various other apps. These layouts DO work with gvim, which is
  useful to me.

When I try to enter characters with AltGr + vowel in the shell from
xfce4-terminal (using the Maori layout), I get little diamonds with
questions marks. In vim, I get various strange effects, but no vowels
  with macrons.

This is the 64-bit version of xfce4-terminal:
  $ file /usr/bin/xfce4-terminal
  /usr/bin/xfce4-terminal: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, x86-64, version 1
(SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.15, stripped

I don't have a computer available to try the 32-bit version of xubuntu
  11.10, unfortunately.

BTW my main goal is to enter Hawaiian text, which also uses macrons.

  Garbled Graphics on Intel X4500

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have been having an issue with garbled graphics on an ASUS K50IJ
Laptop with Intel GMA X4500 integrated graphics.

It is a difficult bug to recreate in a timely fashion as it requires
you to be on the system for a decent amount of time (like an hour,
sometimes less). Usage scenario to recreate this bug: would be to
gradually build up to 10 Firefox or Google Chrome tabs. Minimize the
applications, Open a 4000x3000 pixel photo in GIMP, do some editing.
After using the computer for a while, go to the launcher and click
Firefox or Chrome. Close Firefox or Chrome and then close GIMP.
Firefox will take a while to close and while the hard drive is
loading, the screen will suddenly become garbled.

I've been a user of Ubuntu since version 6.06 (Dapper Drake) and have
been using it exclusively on this laptop since version 12.04. I have
not had this issue until 14.04.

The temporary workaround is to log out and log back in, after which
the graphics are back to normal. I also checked to see if it was a
memory issue but System Monitor does not appear to display such an
  issue.
