[Touch-packages] [Bug 1599228] [NEW] desktop mode tag not persitent if user set

2016-07-05 Thread Victor Tuson Palau
Public bug reported:

In an M10. If I set desktop mode on manually and then pair a bt mouse,
when the bt mouse is switch off desktop mode resets to tablet mode. The
problem is that if the mouse goes to sleep or loses the connection,
tablet mode kicks in and I am told to switch off my xapps. This seems to
happen very often.

How to reproduce with M10:
* pair a keyboard to the m10 and turn manually desktop mode from the indicator
* pair a mouse to the m10
* turn off the mouse after pairing

expected result:device stays in desktop mode
actual result: device resets to tablet mode

** Affects: unity8 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1576639] [NEW] memory threshold is too high

2016-04-29 Thread Victor Tuson Palau
Public bug reported:

When opening new tabs in the browser, it decides if it should close
existing ones based on level of free memory available in the system. My
understanding is that this is currenly set to 30% percentage of memory
in the device.

There are two issues with this approach and setting:
1) a percentage means that the threshold changes from device to device. While
theamount of memory needed to open a webpage is not device specific. For
example at 30%, the browser would close open tabs if there less than 1.2Gb mem
free in a 4Gb device, but will only need 300Mb free on a 1Gb device. This is a
very large difference.

2) In M10 with 2Gb it requires 600mb free. From idle, just opening the
gmail in the browser, takes the avilable system memory below this. This
means that in 2gb devices the threshold is never met, and the browser
never runs more than one tab at the same time. this impacts user
experience, specially in desktop mode. For example is not possible to
open a document in the browser while attending a hangout.

How to reproduce
open a tab in the browser, go to youtube and play any video
then open a new tab

expected:
music/sound in the video continues to play

actual in m10:
sound stops playing shortly after opening the tab

Sorry I was travelling. This seem to happen with all the apps, including

https://bugs.launchpad.net/avila/+bug/1532862 as it only happens after
that bug has triggered. I will do more testing now that I have a bt
keyboard too, to see if I can reproduce with both.

to observe TTFF and SNR data from a handset under test. They will
repeat these tests in multiple locations.

They expect to find a tool somewhere in this projects deliverables
that they can use to do this.

  For manual verification purposes:

  * sudo apt-get update  sudo apt-get install ubuntu-location-service-tests
  * /usr/bin/uls-tests/gps_provider_test
--gtest_filter=HardwareAbstractionLayerFixture.time_to_first_fix_cold_start_without_supl_benchmark_requires_hardware
  * Three trials will be run, measuring TTFF from cold start without any sort
of assistance data, reporting details about visible space vehicles to the
terminal.

The timeout per trial is chosen as 15 minutes, as the theoretical cold
start time of GPS is 12.5 minutes (see
  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_to_first_fix).

But this work around failed as I stop the instance and run again. I even
create the same instance with the other name
and try this work around, still can't see anything on the screen.
  2. I can run test_glesv2 and see the result on the screen of the display
correctly.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1396919] Re: unity8 display blank in emulator, host utopic, rtm-14.09 instance.

2014-11-27 Thread Victor Tuson Palau
When you say vivid you mean for the desktop or the emulator image.
Either way the version that we are going to support for developers is :

Desktop 14.04 + RTM/14.09 for the emulator and,
Desktop 14.10 + RTM/14.10 for the emulator.

Marking this as critical as we are due to start a developer program that
will require this functionality for a stable desktop release. Also
marking as confirmed since this is being verified by 3 people in the PES

Status in “ubuntu-download-manager” package in Ubuntu:

Status in “ubuntu-download-manager” package in Ubuntu RTM:
  In Progress

Bug description:
I'm working on making the s-i tests more robust and I've run into an
odd situation, where udm sometimes stores its downloaded files using
an incorrect path, and not the one that s-i (which is unconstrained)
requests. This only appears to happen when the full s-i test suite is
run. When run in isolation, the test succeeds.

Here's a log of the createDownloadGroup call I'm making:

  createDownloadGroup:
  [Record(url='https://localhost:8943/gpg/blacklist.tar.xz',
  destination='/tmp/tmpe7mo8qm9/ubuntu/cache/keyring.tar.xz',
  checksum=''),
  Record(url='https://localhost:8943/gpg/blacklist.tar.xz.asc',
  destination='/tmp/tmpe7mo8qm9/ubuntu/cache/keyring.tar.xz.asc',
  checksum='')]

url is the source url, destination is the local path to save the file
in. This call produces incorrect destination paths in the 'finished'
  signal:

  FINISHED: dbus.Array([dbus.String('/home/barry/.local/share/ubuntu-
  download-manager//usr/lib/telepathy/mission-
  control-5/Downloads/blacklist (20).tar.xz'),
  dbus.String('/home/barry/.local/share/ubuntu-download-
  manager//usr/lib/telepathy/mission-control-5/Downloads/blacklist
  (20).tar.xz.asc')], signature=dbus.Signature('s'))

Notice the very strange directory udm chooses which is definitely not
the path requested, and in fact doesn't exist. This matches the
observed behavior that after a succesful group download completion
(i.e. no errors occur), I assert that the requested destination path
exists, and in the failing test it does not.

I suspect some state is not getting reset in udm.

The messaging app rotates to make it easier to type and read messaging
threads. However, this causes issues in the compose and main views.
If you rotate the app into landscape mode on the landing view, there is no
way to carry out a bottom edge swipe to compose a new message.
In the compose view, the landscape mode doesn't show the header. This one is
needed, to add ppl to the recipient list.

Recommendation: The ideal case is that we would have a custom header
for landscape views because the current one in portrait mode is too
large for certain devices. This needs further investigation from
design and probably SDK. Plus there is still the issue of the bottom
edge swipe in landscape, which needs to be addressed by Unity.
Therefor it would be best to remove this feature for the RTM release.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1391876] [NEW] silent control mode in indicators does not match settings app

2014-11-12 Thread Victor Tuson Palau
Public bug reported:

At some point the toggle in the sound indicator for silent mode stop
matching the real state of the phone. Mainly the indicator things the
silent mode is on, while the settings app (and the phone) thinks is on.

At this point, if you try to turn silent mode on from the indicator is
fails and the toggle always returns to off. The only way to reset this
is to turn silent mode off from the settings app.

This has been repodroduce by me and silbs.

I think this is a generic unity8 issue that is exposed in the My

  mediascanner.

  Problem:
When there are many photos, the scope does not display thumbnails for quite a
while. (It may even be that no photo thumbnails display until all are loaded
into memory.) This is an awkward user experience because the scope looks like
nothing is happening for significant periods of time.

  Expectation:
Photo thumbnails would display as they arrive. (Perhaps there would be some
kind of window around what is currently visible in the scope so that as soon as
photos in the current scroll area, before it by some amount, and after it by
some amount are in memory, they could display and the user could scroll
somewhat, with the window moving appropriately.)

Bug description:
Because of packaging changes in Qt Base in Qt 5.3.2, packages using
qplatformsupport from private headers will need to add an additional
  dependency to compile against it.

  From Debian bug report:
  ---
This comes from QPlatformSupport stuff which creates a static library that
needs this linking.

It also happens that QPlatformSupport is private stuff, so there is really no
way to solve this but either stop using private stuff or helping upstream to
make QPlatformSupport public (which would be really helpful). This will in turn
mean that it will become a dynamic lib and this bug can be fixed.
  ---

  So:
  A) someone works in qtbase upstream to make the QPlatformSupport public, or
  B) workaround with adding libmtdev-dev build dependencies

This bug refers more to the B) option to get Qt 5.3.2 packages move
  forward.

Status in Ubuntu UX bugs:

Status in “unity8” package in Ubuntu RTM:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
There is a new indicators design that improves and fixes many of the
usability issues in the current design.

  New design fixes following issues:
  1. Too small target size for reliably making selection - false positives
  2. Current design doesn’t support overflow. Or inactive items so that their
menu could be accessed.
  3. Movement overload when item changes while going down.
  4. Tabs. Deprecated component and poor navigation.
  5. Invisible locking line in mid point of the screen.

  Specification can be found here:

https://docs.google.com/a/canonical.com/document/d/1jHIGzAzf7kFELgOiU9J0Hd9mOa3NzTsnEglLmx_qEfk/edit

There is also a prototype of the new design:
It can be found here: lp:~willow-team/willow/Indicators-Bens-idea/

There is also a screencast video of the prototype in action here:

https://docs.google.com/a/canonical.com/file/d/0B8eY_FZZ1z7IN0ZaazhwOUhjdnc/edit

Implementing this would be one way of fixing bug 1285951, bug 1352784,
  and bug 1370799.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Send a message to the SUT (with the messaging-app closed)
  2. Wait for the snap notification to disappear
  3. Open the messaging indicator and press anywhere on the message (except on
the message icon which will open the messaging app)
  4. Enter your reply in the text field that appears (keeping in mind that
there may be a bug that stops the Send button from being enabled if the
keyboard is in the middle of autocorrecting a word)
5.) Hit the send button when it is enabled

  Expected result:

I'm either informed that sending failed because the SIM had no signal,
or better, offered the option to rectify this by choosing a SIM for
  that action.

  Actual result:

The message disappears from the menu, the same as if it was
successfully sent, but it was not successfully sent (as it was not
  received on the other end).

me each time' then the user will be prompted to choose a SIM

From the specification: If SIM PIN lock is turned on, the SIM PIN
authentication prompt appears immediately after phone boot.

With the current implementation, the user must open the network
indicator, scroll down the list of Wifi AP, tap on Unlock SIM which
might not even be visible right away if the number os AP is long
enough, and then unlock the SIM

Bug description:
Currently the history-service is saving events using local time, which
is bad as the user might change the timezone and this would mess up

  UTC should be used instead.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1339792] Re: Panel network icon - too much latency when network type changes

Title:
Panel network icon - too much latency when network type changes

Status in “indicator-network” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Testing image #u122 this morning, I ran into two separate scenarios
where the panel network icon didn't always accurately reflect the
current network technology due to some kind of latency detecting
  network changes ( ie. WiFi - 3G - WiFi ).

Both scenarios were reproduced on mako.

  Scenario 1:

  3G: online
WiFi: enabled; connected to AP 1

  - display network menu
  - tap another secure network
  - tap cancel when Password dialog is displayed

At this point the indicator shows '3G' whereas the network menu still
shows the original AP 1 as connected. After some period of time ( 10s
  - 1m ), the icon will change back to show that WiFi is connected.

  Scenario 2:

  3G: online
  WiFi: connected to AP 1

  - go to System Settings::WiFi
  - click Previous Networks
  - select the currently connected AP/network
  - click Forget Network
  - go back to WiFi settings

The WiFi settings correctly shows the AP is no longer connected,
however again the network icon takes some time ( 10s - 1m ) to reflect
  the change back to 3G.

Bug description:
  Following https://bugreports.qt-project.org/browse/QTBUG-35608 the
default speed of scrollable components (components inheriting from
flickable basically) is not resolution independent. The result is that
scrolling speed on our high dpi touch screens is slow.

We could workaround this in the SDK until the bug is fixed upstream (I
bet it won't happen in time for our releases), by simply adding
components named as Flickable, Listview, Gridview etc etc in the
Ubuntu.Components, where each of them sets the speed to be resolution
  independent following our GU guidelines

If an application has instantiated a main loop (E.g. In a Qt app via

This was picked up when OnlineAccountClient was used from a scope that
instantiated a QCoreApplication in order to execute QEventLoops
elsewhere in the code, but did not actually use the application event

  version custom: 1411084873

After a moment with the phone, the camera-app takes up to one minute
to load. Immediately after a reboot it just takes a few seconds.

When it happens the spinner is spinning for a few seconds, then
everything hangs (UI stops responding, launcher, panel and switcher
doesn't work) and after one minute or so the camera eventually starts
and shell is back to normal operations.

When it starts happening once, only a reboot makes the camera behave
  properly again.
