[Touch-packages] [Bug 1522922] Re: Screen flickering in Intel i915 driver

Screen flickering in Intel i915 driver

Status in Nouveau Xorg driver:

Status in libdrm package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
There's an upstream bug reported here
  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91393 that causes screen
flickering when using the Intel i915 builtin driver (at resolutions
  lower than the maximal one).

I think that it will be fixed in newer kernel versions, but for the
  time being, as reported here
  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91393#c25 (and as
personally tested) reverting those two commits fixes the problem.

Would that be possible to release a fixed version for the 4.2.0
  stream?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1535048] Re: i915 driver seems to cause system crash at random

2016-01-18 Thread Yulian
It's very similar and i do sometimes experience the flickering as a
precursor to the complete crash, but mostly screen goes off and it just
crashes. Actually it freezes the whole PC. Keyboard is unresponsive. I
installed kdump, set soft, nmi etc. watches on but the PC does not
detect the crash and does not boot the second kernel :( and i dont have
a nmi button. All i can is power off and restart. Got ideas, how i can
trigger the kernel dump? Also i did experience the same issue with
15.10. I will add libdrm as affected.

Hi,

well I found the cause and fixed it... it was the fall back to swrast
(software rasterizer in Mesa3D).

MNhmh... It looks like that all the compiz aren't properly rendered...
 That's weird.

Do you get the same in other compiz plugins (when doing Super+s or
Super+W?), or in Alt+` or Alt+Tab in detail mode?

  Ubuntu 14.10
  Compiz 0.9.12
  Unity 7.3.1
  uname 3.16.0-29-generic

  Upon login to my Unity session, no sidebar or top menu bar is present;
it does load desktop icons and the desktop image. Unity commands
(CTRL-ALT-T for terminal app) don't work, but system commands do.
Applications can only be launched by system command, and when they do
they have no window dressing. I launched unity from a terminal, and
got some of my desktop back (no indicators, system widgets).

  Steps taken for remedy/debug:

  - I have tried reinstalling a number of packages: compiz, ccsm, unity,
unity-tweak-tool.
  - I tried to use `xprop WM_CLASS` to see what was being displayed in the top
bar once unity was initialized; clicking the blank area where indicators would
have been returned `WM_CLASS: not found`
  - ran most system testing suites. After reboot test, and resuming checkbox,
terminal displayed the following:

  app_id : com.canonical.checkbox-gui
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply Did not receive a reply. Possible
causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus
security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network
connection was broken.

Title:
  Compiz/Unity not launching at startup

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 14.10
  Compiz 0.9.12
  Unity 7.3.1
  uname 3.16.0-29-generic

  Upon login to my Unity session, no sidebar or top menu bar is present;
it does load desktop icons and the desktop image.

  - I also made use of the unity tweak tool reset feature, and got the
following warnings (the full output is farther below):
