[Touch-packages] [Bug 1981932] [NEW] Loud squeaking noise which disappears when audio is played

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1927796] Re: [SRU]pam_tally2 can cause accounts to be locked by correct password. pam_faillock use is the recommended fix

There are already two customer cases from Canonical clients complaining about this behavior (00297697 and 00303806). Also, potentially, this will cause further problems in the future, since both STIG benchmarks and CIS benchmarks rely on pam_tally2 to lock accounts when wrong passwords are used. And both benchmarks - but specially STIG - requires use of a lot of audit rules, which can lead to the busy node environment. The issue impacts all pam_tally2 versions distributed in all currently supported Ubuntu versions and also the next unreleased one. Note that, according to https://github.com/linux-pam/linux-pam/issues/71, there is no plan to fix this issue! [FIX] This fix proposes to add pam_faillock module to the PAM package, so users of pam_tally2 having issues can migrate to pam_faillock. We also plan to modify the current STIG benchmarks to rely on pam_faillock instead of pam_tally2, but in order to do so, we need the pam_faillock module to be available. Note that we don't propose to remove pam_tally2, since not every user of this module is affected. [TEST] Tested on a VM installed with Focal server iso and on another with Bionic server iso. Enabled pam_faillock module as recommeded by its man page. Then tried to log over ssh with an incorrect password, until the account got locked. Waited for the configured grace time to unlock and logged in using the correct password. Note that, since the pam_tally2 issue is caused by a racing condition, with a hard to recreate environment (we could not even reproduce it with pam_tally2), we could not reproduce the conditions to test pam_faillock with. [REGRESSION POTENTIAL] The regression potential for this is small, since we're not removing the old pam_tally2 module, just adding another one. So anyone still using pam_tally2 will be able to do so. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1927796] Re: [SRU]pam_tally2 can cause accounts to be locked by correct password. pam_faillock use is the recommended fix
Tested pam_faillock module for pam on bionic. Test consisted on setting up pam_faillock with the following configuration, as described in the man page: /etc/security/faillock.conf file example: deny=4 unlock_time=1200 silent /etc/pam.d/config file example: auth required pam_faillock.so preauth # optionally use requisite above if you do not want to prompt for the password # on locked accounts auth sufficient pam_unix.so auth [default=die] pam_faillock.so authfail auth required pam_deny.so account required pam_faillock.so # if you drop the above call to pam_faillock.so the lock will be done also # on non-consecutive authentication failures account required pam_unix.so A new user 'joas' was created and its password set. Then, initially, 4 logins were made through ssh and terminal, using the correct password. All were successful. User 'joas' was, then, logged out and 4 attempts to login with incorrect password were made. Since pam_faillock module was set to lock on the 4th incorrect attempt, another try was done, this time with the correct password. After confirming that the 'joas' account was locked, by trying, with the correct password, additional times, the superuser account was used to display the account stats ('faillock --user joas') and then used to unlock the 'joas' account ('faillock --user joas --reset'). Then, again 4 logins were made using the correct password, in order to check it was successfully authenticating. Another test consisted on typing the wrong password 3 times, then typing the correct one, to make sure the PAM module was properly resetting the counter. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to pam in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1927796 Title: [SRU]pam_tally2 can cause accounts to be locked by correct password. pam_faillock use is the recommended fix Status in pam package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Status in pam source package in Bionic: Fix Committed Status in pam source package in Focal: Fix Committed Status in pam source package in Groovy: Fix Committed Status in pam source package in Hirsute: Fix Committed Status in pam source package in Impish: Fix Committed Bug description: [IMPACT] There is a known issue in pam_tally2 which may cause an account to be lock down even with correct password, in a busy node environment where simultaneous logins takes place (https://github.com/linux-pam/linux-pam/issues/71). [Touch-packages] [Bug 1927796] [NEW] [SRU]pam_tally2 can cause accounts to be locked by correct password. pam_faillock use is the recommended fix
Public bug reported: [IMPACT] There is a known issue in pam_tally2 which may cause an account to be lock down even with correct password, in a busy node environment where simultaneous logins takes place (https://github.com/linux-pam/linux-pam/issues/71). There are already two customer cases from the US Army complaining about this behavior (https://canonical.lightning.force.com/lightning/r/Case/5004K03vkq4QAA/view and https://canonical.lightning.force.com/lightning/r/Case/5004K03tkbmQAA/view). Hey guys. After 1 year with problems to make works headphone together with mic, I got a solution for my ASUS S46CA, I think this can works for you too. First, I try a lot of options snd-hda-intel, but only works this: options snd-hda-intel model=alc255-asus for my ALC270. But it is not enough. I needed use hdajackretask And force pin ID 0x1a to be "Headphone" pin ID 0x18 to be "Microphone" if alc255-asus don't works for you, you can try another options, like: alc269-dmic, alc271-dmic, headset-mic, alc283-headset. (I'll test removing this later on the day). 3) Dell U2715H (REV A01, 2015) (http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=hk=en=bsd=hkbsd1=210-ADSZ) 4) DisplayPort-to-DisplayPort (pc DisplayPort-MiniDisplayPort monitor) 5) No, it crashes. 6) Both, no difference. I start the laptop, from cold boot, first login screen displays properly in both monitors cloning the display. Afterwards I try to login and when setting new settings starts crashing repeatedly, trying to restart the xserver (as it seems). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1771539 Title: Xorg crash Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: When I try to use ubuntu with dual desktop display it crashes continuously, and entering into login mode. Thank you once again for your support. I want to say that I' m very pleased with Ubuntu. [Touch-packages] [Bug 972077] Re: apt repository disk format has race conditions
Affects me too. This is making impossible for me to work with ubuntu and vagrant. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apt in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/972077 Title: apt repository disk format has race conditions Status in APT: Fix Released Status in apt package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Apt archives are accessed over HTTP; this has resulted in a cluster of bugs (reported here, and upstream) about problems behind intercepting caches, problems with squid etc. There are 3 interlocking issues: A - mirror networks may be out of sync with each other (e.g. a file named on one mirror may no longer exist, or may not yet exist, on another mirror) B - updating files on a single mirror is not atomic - and even small windows of inconsistency will, given enough clients, cause headaches. C - caches exacerbate race conditions - when one happens, until the cached data expires, all clients of the cache will suffer from the race Solving this requires one of several things: - file system transactions - an archive format that requires only weakly ordered updates to the files at particular urls with the assumption that only one file may be observed to change at a time (because a lookup of file A, then B, may get a cache miss on A and a cache hit on B, so even if all clients strictly go A, then B, updates may still see old files when paths are reused). - super robust clients that repeatedly retry with progressively less cache friendly headers until they have a consistent view. (This is very tricky to do). It may be possible to do a tweak to the apt repository format though, which would allow publishing a race-free format in parallel with the existing layout, while clients migrate. To be safe against issue (A) the mirror network would need some care around handling of dns round- robin mirrors [to minimise the situation where referenced data is not available], but this should be doable - or alternatively clients doing 'apt-get update' may need to be willing to retry to accommodate round- robin skew. What would such an archive format look like? It would have only one well known file name (InRelease), which would be internally signed. Rather than signing e.g. Packages.gz, it would sign a uniquely named packages and sources file - e.g. Packages-$HASH.gz or Packages-$serialno.gz. Backwards compatibility is achieved by using the same filenames for deb's and the like. We need to keep writing Packages.gz though, and Releases, until we no longer worry about old apt clients. We can optimise disk space a little by making Packages.gz a symlink to a Packages-$HASH.gz (and so on for Sources..), but it may be simpler and less prone to unexpected behaviour to keep using regular files. tl;dr * Unique file names for all unique file content with one exception * InRelease, a self-signed file that provides hashes and names the index files (Packages, Sources, Translations etc) * Coexists with existing archive layout Related bugs: * bug 804252: Please support InRelease files * bug 1430011: support apt by-hash mirrors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/apt/+bug/972077/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Touch-packages] [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c
It's difficult for brazilians to get used to Ubuntu since such a simple thing as typing is compromised. Never heard about ' + c resulting in ć. This is not observed in other Linux distros, OSX and Windows. This strange behaviour is intentional, but there is also bug which makes harder for us to type properly. We really should use Portuguese (Brazil, nativo for USA keyboards) for typing in portuguese with an american keyboard, but such layout is totally messed up. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to libx11 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/518056 Title: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c Status in IBus: Unknown Status in central project for keyboard configuration: Won't Fix Status in Modular X11 Libraries: Confirmed Status in ibus package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in language-selector package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in libx11 package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: When typing in a US-international keyboard with dead-keys (or UK-international), typing 'c results in an accented c instead of a cedilla. There is a workaround, which is editing the /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodule-files.d/libgtk2.0-0.immodules file and changing the line cedilla Cedilla gtk20 /usr/share/locale az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa to cedilla Cedilla gtk20 /usr/share/locale az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa:en (add the 'en' at the end). However, every time some update on this file is applied, one looses the change, and we get back to the accented c. That means having to modify the file again, logout and login. For me this is no problem. But for my brother, mom, dad, etc, it is always something that at least makes me less proud of having convinced them to use Ubuntu, because they don't know what to do each time this happens. I think we really need a configurable keyboard layout, or at least (and that would be very easy), the inclusion of alternate layouts on install that for the dead-key options (as US-deadkey and UK-deakey), alternate layouts as US-deadkey-cedilla. This change is relevant for at least Portuguese and French. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1080674] Re: [QEMU] Corrupted desktop screen for raring desktop installation in QEMU guest (Cirrus graphics). Affects KVM but not VBox.
I have a similar problem using qemu-kvm in kubuntu 14.04.1, while running linux-mint 17.1 or elementary os 0.3 beta 1 in the virtual machine. In the case of linux mint, the desktop is more or less ok, but some objects are corrupted. If you look at the first attached screenshot you will see three windows, two are ok (calculator and software manager) and one is corrupted (system monitor). In the second screenshot you will see the elementary os desktop which is almost unreadable. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to cairo in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1080674 Title: [QEMU] Corrupted desktop screen for raring desktop installation in QEMU guest (Cirrus graphics).
