[Touch-packages] [Bug 1648077] Re: Support for Mozilla Location Service (A-GPS)

2016-12-11 Thread extraym...@gmail.com
This will definitely help ports like ubport greatly, and it can enable
roms to be more feature complete if a-gps is enabled.

Many people use 2nd-hand or refurbished cellphone as car navigator or
such, if a-gps is enabled, I bet the desire to port more devices into
ubuntu will be higher.

Title:
Support for Mozilla Location Service (A-GPS)

Status in location-service package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Currently, A-GPS is only available on commercial UT-devices through
Nokia HERE. This is a real problem for users of community ports (like
those provided by ubports.com). Also, the HERE service is closed
source and proprietary, that's kind of odd for the free operating
system we all want Ubuntu Touch to be.

I suggest that we try to implement the Mozilla Location Service, which
is a free and open source location service:
  https://location.services.mozilla.com/

There is a bounty on Bountysource on this:
  https://www.bountysource.com/issues/39808752-support-for-mozilla-
  location-service-a-gps

Support a Traditional Chinese input method

Status in Canonical System Image:
  In Progress
Status in ubuntu-keyboard package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
Our pinyin plugin only provides support for Simplified Chinese and
Traditional Chinese is often requested.
In Taiwan especially many people use Zhuyin and it is taught in elementary
schools.

Ubuntu has a Chewing implementation on the desktop, presumably an
approach similar to the pinyin plugin can be developed.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1368647] Re: GPS and location detection not working on Nexus 4

2015-07-05 Thread extraym...@gmail.com
On my nexus 4, it worked prior to ota4.
Can't get it to work on all multiple channels I've tested.

Any chance on getting this fixed?

Title:
GPS and location detection not working on Nexus 4

Status in location-service package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Mako with MultiROM, utopic r239

None of the apps I have tried including Weather, Google maps, OSM
Touch and SensorStatus are able to use the phone's GPS. The
SensorStatus app actually reports "Found supported backend", but finds
no position or other GPS data.

Location detection on the other hand is doing something, but it is
really far off when it comes to determining the actual location of the
device. The Weather app suggests my location as Vänsjö, Jämtland,
which is about 400 km north of Stockholm where I am at. OSM Touch
reports "no location available" and Google maps "Your location could
  not be determined"

I don't know if the GPS has to "waken up" somehow, but it has not
shown any form of life for me on Ubuntu Touch, even though it works
perfectly fine when booting the phone as Android.
