[Touch-packages] [Bug 1887210] Re: USB DAC/AMP unselectable from Sound Settings and crashes alsamixer

2020-10-12 Thread Nikolas Carneiro
Also have problems with Schiit Hel on Ubuntu 20.04. I've sound (both
input and output) but broken pipe when selecting it from alsamnixer.
Using pulsemixer to "set the audio source from off to digital stereo
duplex it should prevent alsa crashing and actually allow the audio
source to work" did not worked for me.

Title:
USB DAC/AMP unselectable from Sound Settings and crashes alsamixer

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am experiencing the same issue with the same device described in
  this report comment: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-
  driver/+bug/1267866/comments/26

The device works as expected with Windows 10 and macOS no drivers
required. However, the device is not an option from Ubuntu's sound
settings. It is visible in alsamixer, however, it crashes immediately
upon selection with 'cannot load mixer controls: Broken pipe'.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1843508] [NEW] Apt erases console output from commands that were run prior to it.

2019-09-10 Thread Nikolas Britton
Public bug reported:

Apt is erasing the previous contents of my terminal window. The output
from commands that had been run prior to running apt were entirely
erased from the terminal's historical record.

This is seriously bad etiquette, you should not ever take a dump all
over the historical record of a terminal's output. The scroll-back
feature is intentionally there so you can show a linear sequence of
events. Back in the day consoles were connected directly to printers,
and in fact some companies still do this for security auditing purposes,
so you have to presume the terminal can only be written to... this is
why it's called standard out. Overwriting is a serious no no. Also I'm
not happy about apt breaking scripted execution (wtf were you
thinking?), but this overwriting of the console record is a flagrant
violation of proper etiquette. Please do the needful!

Steps to reproduce:

fio --randrepeat=1 --ioengine=libaio --direct=0 --gtod_reduce=1
--name=test --filename=test -iodepth=32 --size=32G --readwrite=randrw
--rwmixread=60 --bsrange=4k-1024k --numjobs=6 --group_reporting=1

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1689825] Re: gnome-keyring not unlocked on boot

2017-06-04 Thread Nikolas Hedberg
I am having this problem as well to the point that I can't use my
desktop. The only solution I have found is to install a different
distro or version of Ubuntu other than 16.04.

  3) Login. gnome-keyring unlocks "login" features including for google chrome
  4) gnome-keyring is not unlocked, chrome takes 2 minutes to open and with no
secure password features(sync) functioning.

For the past couple days, chrome on Ubuntu 16.04 takes a REALLY long
time (maybe 2 minutes) to start. Once chrome is started, I am not able
to sync and any secure password features are broken. I found out this
is due to gnome-keyring not being unlocked at login. There's also no
way to unlock the "login" portion of the keyring from the running
daemon by default. I have to kill the gnome-keyring process and start
without "--login" as a parameter. Then the "login" section shows up
which I'm able to unlock. From there chrome starts up instantly but
  asks the following:

Enter password to unlock your login keyring
The login keyring did not get unlocked when you logged into your computer

After that, all of it's sync and secure features are functional.

Starting google-chrome-stable from a command line at boot without
running the above workaround shows the following error messages:

Gkr-Message: secret service operation failed: Did not receive a reply.
Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the
message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1211110] Re: network manager openvpn dns push data not updating system DNS addresses

2016-04-03 Thread Nikolas Hedberg
I am using Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit and I have tried every option I can find
on this thread and on google but nothing seems to work.

The only thing I can do is change my entire systems DNS to the DNS
servers of my VPN service for now.

I did find a tutorial on the program dnscrypt which has a PPA that will
encrypt your DNS. I'm going to give that a try.

Thanks to whoever comes up with a solution.

Title:
network manager openvpn dns push data not updating system DNS
  addresses

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in openvpn package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When IPv4 Method is set to Automatic VPN, DNS address recieved from
OpenVPN server do not update resolv.conf.

This can be achieved when using a standard openvpn config file by
  adding the lines:

  script-security 2
  up /etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf
  down /etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf

In Network-manager there seems to be no option to run connection
specific scripts and the DNS data from the server is ignored.

  Ubuntu 13.04
  Network-manager 0.9.8.0-0ubuntu6
