[Touch-packages] [Bug 2057792] Re: Some Games are crashing linked to a vm_max_map_count too low

2024-03-30 Thread vadim
I suggest including 2147483642 not in LTS, but in Ubuntu 24.10 as an
experiment. Because I noticed an unpleasant detail. For example, there
is a game "Don't Starve," I know there is a native version, but this is
just as an experiment with Proton. If you launch the Proton version, you
will receive a message when vm.max_map_count = 1048576:
"steam_app_218740" is not responding. You may choose to wait a short
while for it to continue or force the app to quit entirely. But when
vm.max_map_count = 2147483642, there are no problems, everything loads
instantly.

Bug description:
  Hello there,

  I submit this request to improve the gaming experience in ubuntu for all
users.
  Today, Hogwarts Legacy, Star Citizen and few more games are crashing or just
not starting because the vm_max_map_count is locked at 65530. If we change this
value to a value > 20, all games are working well and there is no bug
linked to maps.

  Some others distribution like Fedora or Pop OS, have already made the
  change few month before.

  It's time to Ubuntu to makes the change also.

  Thanks in advance for applying this request.

  How to make this change :

  One file to modify :
  /etc/sysctl.conf
  Add this line :
  vm.max_map_count=2147483642
  Save
  Reboot and enjoy

  Best Regards
  Vinceff

Bug description:

  When I use my Bluetooth A2DP headset (Philips SHB7102) together with
  my mouse (Lenovo Bluetooth Laser Mouse), I notice this:

  Whenever I leave the mouse still for a few seconds (it seems to enter
  some kind of lower-power-mode) and then start to move it, my music
  most of the time skips for a second. This makes using these two
  bluetooth devices together quite annoying...

  The adapter is a Lenovo "ThinkPad Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate

  I am running current karmic amd64 (linux 2.6.31-9).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 879902] Re: Increase the number of inotify watches

2018-08-03 Thread Vadim Kotov
I am still affected by this in 2018. Any plans to increase the number?
It is 8192 in Ubuntu 18.04.

Title:
  Increase the number of inotify watches

Status in procps package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Many of the problems I encountered seem to be related to a single issue : the
maximum number of watches inotify is able to handle.
  I have found that the default maximum number of watches is way to low too
handle every feature using inotify, a default Ubuntu uses a great number of
watches out of the box and in Natty and Oneiric it starts to become a real
problem.

  Possible effects are :
  - Ubuntu One not syncing correctly
  - Nautilus not updating itself when a file is created or deleted.
  - Audio players not updating music libraries
  - tail -f or other programs using inotify show a cryptic message about no
space being left on the device (while there's plenty of space)

  I have found that simply doubling the maximum of watches *is not
  enough* for a normal use, and if I believe this comment :
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/beagle/+bug/115801/comments/4
  there is no problem to setting the number of watches to a high value.
  My current setting is 524288, which is 64 times the default value, It
  may be too high for a default value but I believe that 65536 or 131072
  should be enough for almost everyone.

  If Precise Pangolin wants to be predictable, this issues *has* to be
  addressed.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 723739] Re: Cannot cross compile 32-bit curl apps on x86_64

2017-11-15 Thread Vadim Kotov
Issue in curl's Github repo -- https://github.com/curl/curl/issues/1456

** Bug watch added: github.com/curl/curl/issues #1456
   https://github.com/curl/curl/issues/1456

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu
Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to curl in Ubuntu.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/723739

Title:
  Cannot cross compile 32-bit curl apps on x86_64

Status in curl package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Cross compiling (-m32) a 32-bit application that relies on libcurl in
  a 64-bit host fails with:

  In file included from /usr/include/curl/curl.h:35,
   from :
  /usr/include/curl/curlrules.h:143: error: size of array '__curl_rule_01__' is
negative
  /usr/include/curl/curlrules.h:153: error: size of array '__curl_rule_02__' is
negative

  This is due to libcurl's installation of a generated, architecture
  dependent, header file "curlbuild.h". Design decisions aside, I think
  the package should handle this so the user doesn't have to install a
  parallel installation of 32-bit libcurl to cross-compile curl apps.

  One possible solution is to the use approach Fedora takes and install
  both curlbuild.h's side-by-side and switch on __WORDSIZE:

  $ ls /usr/include/curl/curlbuild*
  /usr/include/curl/curlbuild-32.h /usr/include/curl/curlbuild-64.h
/usr/include/curl/curlbuild.h

  $ cat /usr/include/curl/curlbuild.h
  #include

  #if __WORDSIZE == 32
  #include "curlbuild-32.h"
  #elif __WORDSIZE == 64
  #include "curlbuild-64.h"
  #else
  #error "Unknown word size"
  #endif

  There is also a forum thread discussing this same issue:
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1680426

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1712862] [NEW] VPN auto-connection does not work at login

2017-08-24 Thread Vadim Peretokin
Public bug reported:

I've setup the VPN to autoconnect on login. When I log in, the
connection keeps failing to establish. If I disconnect from the network
it's trying to connect to and click connect manually, it is able to

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1633319] Re: memory leak in indicator-datetime

2017-06-07 Thread Vadim Peretokin
I had to disable Evolution accessing the calendar in Online Accounts,
because the whole OS was completely unusable - as soon as I logged in,
indicator-datetime-service would eat up all of the memory and lock the
system up. That's it.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1436956] Re: Critical system files such as /sbin/shutdown and /sbin/init missing after updating upstart

2015-03-31 Thread Vadim Smelyansky
I hit this behavior too.
I upgraded 14.04 on test laptop to 15.04 and it worked ok , but after last
update system missing /sbin/init and won't boot.
before rebooted I tried to issue init command and get message the /sbin/init
provided by upstart (systemd was not refenced)
also searching for init like dpkg -S /sbin/init results in error that no
package containing /sbin/init
after reboot system brokes, restored by just copy /sbin/init, reboot and links
from install cd of 14.04
doing dpkg -l upstart does not list /sbin/init, shutdown etc so --reinstall
upstart does not help
aparently upstart 1.13 is broken
and system no switched to systemd while release upgrade

  3) What you expected to happen
  System continues to run normally with critical system files (listed below)
intact.

  4) What happened instead
  The following critical system files are all missing after updating the
upstart package using apt-get:
  /sbin/halt
  /sbin/init
  /sbin/poweroff
  /sbin/reboot
  /sbin/runlevel
  /sbin/shutdown
  /sbin/telinit

  This is a serious bug which could prevent rebooting/shutdown of the OS
  and completely disable it due to missing /sbin/init.

Bug description:
  I have a macbook pro with retina display. In Ubuntu 14.04 64bit, every
  couple of reboots, the 'large text' option in Universal Access gets
  switched on upon login. It happens in roughly 1 out of 5 reboots for 1
  or more users on the computer.

  It appears to happen to people with small HighDPI screens. In my case, it's
13 inch at 2560x1600.
  Another example is 13 inch at 1080p -

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1378555] [NEW] Unity broke down

2014-10-07 Thread Vadim Peretokin
Public bug reported:

Unity's window animations, out of the blue, became impossibly slow.
Anything that involved opening a new window, closing a window or moving
a window was freezing up and real slow. In addition to this, alt+f2
stopped working - the window would come up, but searching for anything
would say no results found (this prevented me from restarting unity.
Lastly, locking the screen made the compute un-unlockable because the
field to enter the password was missing.

Reboot fixed the issue.
