Title:
HP ENVY Serie 1xxx, 2xxx, 3xxx BASS / SPEAKERS / surround volume not
working (ALSA + Kernel 13.xx up are worst)

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
HP ENVY Serie 1xxx, 2xxx, 3xxx BASS / SPEAKERS / surround volume not
working (ALSA + Kernel 13.xx up are worst)

This is a problem affects almost all dv6/dv7 and almost all HP envy
1xxx, 2xxx, 3xxx series using the 92HD80B1X5 codec that run the
92HD81B1X5/92HD71xxx by generic since ubuntu is ubuntu.

Using the pre ubuntu 11 when the generic alsa codec was the 92HD71xxx
setting manually to hp-dv5 orhp- dv4 was possible to get the bass like
speakers running like surround sound ( the 2 surround channels mapped
to bass speakers), Later version 11.xx this changed with the
92HD80B1X5 being used by generic and setting manually to hp-dv7-4000
  we have the same results.

Now with ubuntu 13.xx and after the kernel + alsa last upgrades ( hda
rewrite in kernel) when we set-up to load hp-dv7-4000 we still have
the same surround mapped to surround but the volume mixed didn't work
  any more.

It's terrible that an entire line of notebook from a brand that sell
a lot like HP still lack of proper support, under HP windows drivers
we have at last the basic codec parameters to copy instead use the
  generic ones.

Under the manufacturer driver package ( in case HP) SP.exe unpack
and under SPxxx/WDM/vista/stwrt64.ini you can discover your sound
driver and version used and then look the .INI's files for [HKM] basic
  parameters.

This didn't solve mine problems but at last give me the correct output
to bass ( not the surround) besides no volume control yet.

  Any help is wellcome.

  In mine specific case... An envy 17 3d 2100 CTO;
