Sorry folks, but as part of the bug clean up ahead of 16.04 LTS I'm marking this as invalid because it affects an Ubuntu release which is now unsupported. Unity commands (CTRL-ALT-T for terminal app) don't work, but system commands do. Applications can only be launched by system command, and when they do they have no window dressing. I launched unity from a terminal, and got some of my desktop back (no indicators, system widgets). Steps taken for remedy/debug: - I have tried reinstalling a number of packages: compiz, ccsm, unity, unity-tweak-tool. - I tried to use `xprop WM_CLASS` to see what was being displayed in the top bar once unity was initialized; clicking the blank area where indicators would have been returned `WM_CLASS: not found` - ran most system testing suites. After reboot test, and resuming checkbox, terminal displayed the following: app_id : com.canonical.checkbox-gui org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
