@Sebastien: Hmm.. That upstream issue talks about Ctrl+. which is a shortcut I was unaware of. It's apparently something else but Ctrl+Shift+e, where IBus is involved somehow, and which just as Ctrl+Shift+u conflicts with shortcuts in certain applications as the OP pointed out in the bug

Thanks but as Gunnar said those keybindings are useful and not going to be removed It could make sense to have them listed in the GNOME settings keybinding for making them easier to change for users though which has been requested on https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-

Thanks for your report. The conflict you point at is unfortunate. Nevertheless, removing those shortcuts is not an option. Especially Ctrl+Shift+u is a well established method on Linux to type characters which are not available via the keyboard layout you are using:
