This action clears the user's password. Their password is now effectively null. 7. When you reach the greeter once again, you have to click on "login" but you will not be asked for a password. At this point it is not possible to give yourself a password again due to another bug. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1070449 So we work around it: 8. open a terminal and "passwd" 9. Note it doesn't ask for your existing password, because there isn't one. Enter a new password. 10. restart the computer once more. When you reach the greeter you can login without entering the password you just set.
