the driver appears to be corrupting the printer in some way. brother has
the same problem even in their windows drivers, at least in earlier
versions. the only "fix" is to break up every print job into 1-page
documents, send 1 page, let it print, reboot the printer, delete the
printer, re-add the

openprinting-ppds:0/ppd/openprinting/Brother/BR8480_2_GPL.ppd Brother
MFC-8480DN BR-Script3 printer driver? The apport-collect info will tell us.
As an alternative according to the specifications of the Brother MFC-8480DN it
also supports PCL6. So you can also try
