Public bug reported:

system:
hardware: BTO laptop
CPU: Intel Core i7-3630qm @ 2,4 GHz x 8
RAM: 7,7 GiB
GPU 1: intel ivybridge Mobile
GPU 2: discrete NVIDIA card, optirun and nouveau installed.
OS: Ubuntu 15.04 64-bit

what i expected to happen:

After upgrade to 15.04, I restarted as per request. i expected the login
screen to appear, and after entering my password, the Unity Desktop to
load as it always did in 14.04 and 14.10.

What actually happens:

- plymouth (i have a custom theme with a loading bar) zips by real fast!
- in between Plymouth and Lightdm, a message appears, but time is too short for
me to read.
- then Lightdm appears to load, but freezes up at varying points.
-the mouse pointer appears, but disappears.
-all input is lost! keyboard and mouse not responding
-any notifications about networking or other on screen at the moment of freeze
are frozen along with it.
-lightdm screen elements load or don't at varying rates, sometimes a wallpaper,
sometimes not. same with password box, dotted pattern, logo etc.
- no VT's available
- judging by HD activity LED, linux is still running somewhere in there.

i have to reboot using REISUB

this started happening after the upgrade.
I suspect is has to do with either:
- systemd,
- the latest linux kernel,
- GPU switching (laptop boots with NVIDIA card on, switches to Intel when
lightdm loads)

Current workaround:
installed sddm (KDE's display manager i believe) and let it handle login
instead of lightdm. it has no issues.

i tried starting from grub in Upstart mode, and with older kernels, and
resuls vary. i was able to log in using lightdm succesfully more often
at least.
