Title:
  network-manager-openvpn ignores dhcp-option SEARCH

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
network-manager-openvpn (or some upstream component) is ignoring the
dhcp-option SEARCH parameter, which means that not only won't
additional domains get appended to search, but if 'Use only for
resources on this connection' is enabled, those domains will not get
resolved via the VPN DNS servers, breaking split-horizon DNS for sites
with more than one domain. When 'Use only for resources on this
connection' is enabled, the domains enabled in dnsmasq should be a
union of dhcp-option SEARCH, dhcp-option DOMAIN, and reverse domains
for networks routed via the connection. Currently only the latter two
  are enabled.

Without 'Use only for resources on this connection' enabled, all DNS
resolution does appear to go via the VPN servers, but this is not
necessarily desirable, and creates a situation where users may be
wedged between having their DNS work as expected, and having their
  routing work as expected.

Thank you for your bug report, could you try if that's still an issue in
current versions, especially with the fix for bug #1624317 or bug
