I bought a new replacement adapter and it works well. So something is wrong with the previous one. First I removed old Unity8.log from .cache/upstart/ then I attached an external display with an HDMI cable, then I connected the power source to the adapter. mir does not have any levers to control the power/charging, so the problem might exist elsewhere.
