Title:
Xorg freeze; mouse moves, but no mouse click or keyboard response

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I've encountered this issue on several fresh installations of Ubuntu
16.04.1 on different machines. Typically, the machine becomes
unresponsive to the keyboard presses or to mouse clicks; however, it
does respond to mouse movement. I am unable to open a text console to
manipulate processes, and I am forced to hard restart the machine.
During the most recent instance, I noticed that the mouse cursor would
change in response to its location on the screen while

The issue most often occurs about 3-5 minutes after Chromium has been
opened, but it has also occurred without Chromium being installed.
Moreover, it as occurred while using Xfce and GNOME 3 and while using
open source and proprietary video drivers.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1630884] Re: Xorg freeze; mouse moves, but no mouse click or keyboard response

2018-02-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Casey R Hickerson, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. Regarding only the Dell Latitude E6420:

1) After the freeze, are there crash files in /var/crash?

2) To see if this is resolved in your release, could you please update
your HWE stack as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack
and advise to the results?

3) Does using the nvidia proprietary drivers provide a WORKAROUND via
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia ?

4) Could you please capture the error via
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSystemCrash ?
