I have a vpn-connection here which was working fine till recently. The
configuration was imported from an openvpn config file and when run
directly via "openvpn <config>" everything's fine but networkmanager
fails on it. When I try to connect the first time network manager
reports "success" but fails indeed and no connection is brought up. But
reports "failure" for any further tries.

I think the essential lines from syslog are:
