PS: Debian apparently added the udev rules in usb-modeswitch-data,
version 20160803-1; see https://launchpad.net/debian/+source/usb-

Title:
  HP hs3110 WWAN adapter not recognized

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  The HP hs3110 WWAN adapter is not recognized and does not work out of
  the box.

  The device is a rebranded Huawei MU736 but reports a different VID/PID
  pair (03f0:521d). With a few manual steps the device will work.

  Add the following two udev rules:

  # HP hs3110 (Huawei MU736)
  ATTR{idVendor}=="03f0", ATTR{idProduct}=="521d", RUN+="usb_modeswitch '%b/%k'"
  ATTR{idVendor}=="03f0", ATTR{idProduct}=="521d", RUN+="/bin/bash -c 'modprobe
option && echo 03f0 521d > /sys/bus/usb-serial/drivers/option1/new_id'"

  After that, a PIN prompt appears on boot, the device appears in
  Network Manager and can be configured. Before a conection can be
  established, the following AT commands need to be sent to
  /dev/ttyUSB2:

  ATZ
  ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
  AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP"

  (I’ve successfully automated this using wvdial and running it once
  manually before establishing a 3G connection.)

  After that, a 3G connection can be established.

  Would be great if this were supported out of the box, especially if
  sending the AT commands could be automated.
