Title:
  connecting dock hangs system

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Description of problem:
connection usb type c dock with 2 displays attached freezes the system and
requires cold boot. sometimes only disconnecting the dock makes the system
usable again, sometimes not. sometime the dock works with only 1 display
attached, sometimes even with both but 90% of the time connecting any display
to the dock hangs the system (or booting ubuntu with the dock and displays
already connected makes the system unbootable).
  dock is https://us-store.acer.com/acer-usb-type-c-dock

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
  Ubuntu 17.10

  Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Connect Dock
  2. Experience Crash

  Actual results:
  crash

  Expected results:
  Working dock with external displays

  Additional info:
works fine under windows. crashes X and wayland.
