Interesting. That sounds like something we should be shipping with Ubuntu. But ideally it should come from upstream PulseAudio. Please log a bug for the issue with the PulseAudio people so we can try and get the fix in a future version:

I managed to get it to work. Here is how: copy these files as instructed in the README: https://github.com/plbossart/UCM/tree/master/bytcr-rt5640 Then, from the terminal: pacmd set-source-port alsa_input.platform-bytcr_rt5640.HiFi__hw_bytcrrt5640__source pacmd set-default-sink

Interestingly, even though pulseaudio doesn't start and no sound indicator appears on the system, if I start something using VLC, the audio works. No sound in the browser or system, only in VLC. I guess this is due to some bugs in pulseaudio, isn't it? -- You received this bug notification

This sounds like it might be a duplicate of bug 1720519. Please try the workaround in comment 4 here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1720519/comments/4 ** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because
