Having the same issue with HD Graphics 515 (Asus Chromebook C302ca). Switching to uxa as noted above gets rid of the artifacting / font distortion, though note that you'll need to add quotes around both "AccelMethod" and "uxa" or X won't start. Alternatively, you can use Wayland and the artifacts

I will not provide additional data out of respect for my own privacy of which machine metal specifications I have. I will only say that I have a Mesa Intel(R) HD Graphics 530 (SKL GT2) The current build of Ubuntu with all the latest updates. A 20-intel.conf file with the following config in
