[Touch-packages] [Bug 1889054] Re: No audio on TRX40 platform

2020-07-28 Thread Eduardo
@sohail right, the HDMI is part of my Nvidia card, so it is not built
into the motherboard.

@Daniel, I have tried with the latest mainline kernel. Still no luck.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1889054] Re: No audio on TRX40 platform

2020-07-27 Thread Eduardo
I have already tried the oem version but no luck. No sound at all. Not
sure if the patch is included or if so, if it solves the issue.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1889054] Re: No audio on TRX40 platform

2020-07-27 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
Eduardo. You're welcome, although I wish I could answer your question.

One thing you may want to try is the linux-oem kernel, which is based off 5.6.x:
sudo apt-get install linux-oem-20.04

Title:
  No audio on TRX40 platform

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hello,

I have Ubuntu 20.04 running on a computer based on AMD Threadripper
3960x, TRX40 platform (Gigabyte TRX40 AORUS PRO). Audio hasn't worked
  so far.

I read about audio problems on this platform from the beginning but
they should be fixed in kernel 5.6 according to this
  https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item=Linux-AMD-TRX40
  -Audio-Quirks

Kernel bug reports should be related to these ones:
  https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=206873
  https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=206543

Since it should be fixed in recent kernel versions, I guess the
solution for Ubuntu 20.04 using 5.4 kernel is backporting the fixes.

Is Ubuntu planning to do this?

  Thanks
  Eduardo

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1889054] Re: No audio on TRX40 platform

2020-07-27 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
Also, I removed the CPU model from the title, since there are duplicate
reports problem is independent of CPU model.

2020-07-27 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
Eduardo, the issue seems well-defined, but if possible, please run the
following command in terminal to collect the audio information just in case:
apport-collect 1889054

** Package changed: ubiquity (Ubuntu) => alsa-driver (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- No audio on TRX40 platform (Threadripper 3960x)
+ No audio on TRX40 platform
