Actually I see the issue with both.
The journalctl extract is from an attempt with the current image (with
Ubiquity).
Yesterday I installed via yesterday's pending image. Same problem. Not
magically fixed. :(

What daily image did you install? The current one is from mid December
and the pending one is from today. If you installed the former please
try the latter to see if it is magically fixed.
