Please don't just comment on this bug or reopen it. It isn't helpful, there are too many different issues here, already. Rather file a new bug, by running "ubuntu-bug update-manager" If you can't do that, because apport is broken, file a bug by hand, and attach the contents of /var/log/dist-upgrade.
