- Try to execute command in "sudo bash" shell

Fred, do you have a Mellanox card? The kernel should load mlx4_core
automatically when it detects the hardware. Then the mlx4.conf file
ensures that mlx4_en is loaded when mlx4_core was loaded.

Hi Maik, If you think you are confirming the original bug report still
exists then you need to change the status above from `New' to

So dpkg does not care if you have removed the config file. I prepared an
update kmod package that removes /etc/modprobe.d/mlx4.conf in my PPA.
Please update to the kmod version in my PPA and then you can install
rdma-core without conflicts:

I've hit the same bug and did some investigation. I profiled the
unattended-upgrade script with python's cProfile and attached the
result.
I've run:
sudo python3 -m cProfile -s time /usr/bin/unattended-upgrade -d -v
on Ubuntu 16.04.3 booted from live cd after uncommenting the

After digging a bit deeper I found out that that the default configuration of
/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades is exactly the same as I had in my
experiment i.e.
- the ${distro_id}:${distro_codename}-security origin is ENABLED
- the ${distro_id}:${distro_codename}-updates and others
As a workaround, I commented out dns=dnsmasq in
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf.
Now network manager adds VPN DNS servers to /etc/resolv.conf and everything
works as expected.
As an additional benefit, it also adds and uses additional search domains but
only with "Use this connection
