Thanks @Pascal for indicating that the drop down menu lists do appear by selecting XRender as the rendering engine. Unfortunately XRender has other issues. The reason I originally changed away from using the default settings is because then I had issues with screen tearing [1] and an inability to

I was able to work-around this issue by rolling back only the *libgl- mesa* packages from version 18.0.5-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 to version 17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1. I did not need to revert the *libdrm* packages in order to work-around this issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a

Daniel, the KDE menu bar colour problem I experienced and noted in bug #1780664 also went away when I upgraded to the new xorg-server. I had to reboot and upgrade all my packages twice in order to get the latest. You might try checking to ensure that you have all the latest packages. -- You rec

I don't have a 4K monitor, but the following steps fixed video tearing with Kubuntu 16.04 on my Intel i7-2600k CPU with integrated Intel HD 3000 Graphics. Edit /etc/environment and add the following lines: __GL_YIELD="USLEEP" KWIN_TRIPLE_BUFFER=0 KWIN_USE_BUFFER_AGE=0 Save the file and reboot.
