resolved. In particular HTTPS/SSL is not working for many sites. Steps
to reproduce:

On Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS Focal Fossa the web page to log on to public
wireless networks does not open. Without this, it is not possible to
access public networks in cafes and hotels. It neither works with
Firefox, Chrome nor Konqueror. I could ping the gateway so the

I found meanwhile that the web login worked at most other places I have
been to since then. Thus, Ubuntu 20.04 seems to ignore the captive
portal only under particular circumstances which indicates that one of
the less common captive portal variants does not work.

Did you try the workaround posted on 2016-12-19? You may have to add modules
i2c_dev and i2c_i801 before running init-headphone:

This annoying bug affected all upgrades to Bionic and Cosmic Cuttlefish
I did so far and also effects Cosmic Cuttlefish. systemd-resolv and
dnsmasq consume each 100% CPU and internet access becomes extremely
slow.
My latest workaround is to disable automatic overwriting to
/etc/resolf.conf with su
Finally found that acl rights were set which overruled umask. After
removing those with "setfacl -b" directories are again created with the
proper access rights.
