I just ran into this bug, tried a suggestion from here (https://askubuntu.com/questions/89710/how-do-i-free-up-more-space-in- boot) which resulted in multiple errors, and me being sent here. It seems to me that this should be taken care of automatically by the kernel with the upgrading process.
