I don't know what that switch actually does but I can tell you that you
should be able to mount a read only Luks volume.
You can also try formating the SD card with xfs and the create a luks
volume inside as such:
predd if=/dev/zero of=disk.img bs=1M count=2000 losetup /dev/loop0
disk.img

I would recommend you to go the safe way:
If you have not damaged your encrypted partition, you should be safe. The
boot loader is not on the encrypted partition. As I read your post,
I succesfully install Trisquel 6.0, but what's ROOT password? The installer
don't ask about it. I set only my normal user password.
The commands I gave you are for creating a LUKS container inside a
normal partition so that the LUKS header wouldn't be on the edge of the
card. I would try this if I were in your place.

It seems normal because, as you can see, the first two lines to add the
Mate PPA ask to use Ubuntu Oneiric Ocelot packages
It's rather complicated, but I managed find out how you do it. Here's an
outline of the steps:
Fix ownership of directories used by gdm.
Start a dbus session for gdm and remember it's address and PID.
Configure parameters of gdm, such as the font.
Kill the dbus session.
Restart
Well, I restarted, did the cat /proc/modules again in busybox, and dm_crypt
is not there. It is in my initrd.img file (zcat /boot/initrd.img | cpio -t)
I am not sure but the installer may set the same options as those used when
booting the Live CD. If it is not the case, you can always boot the Live CD
again and 'chroot' in the installed system to modify GRUB's configuration. In
fact, there exists other ways to do it.
Like Ubuntu, Trisquel does not have, in its default configuration, a root
user. A user with administrative privileges (such as the user created during
the installation) is supposed to perform the administrative tasks using
'sudo'. The command you executed created the root user if you wish.
I tried by adding the modules into the /etc/initramfs-tools/modules (man
initramfs.conf)
echo -e crypto\nxts\n\ndm-crypt\naes /etc/initramfs-tools/modules
and by modifying the /etc/default/grub file a little (

Did you try installing cryptsetup from the chrooted environment using apt? If
it's there, you should maybe try to purge it and then reinstall and see if
that adds your modules.

Yes, if you were running Tor on Windows, using an outdated version of
Firefox, with javascript enabled, then you were definitely at risk.
I still use Tor and was never at risk for the recent exploit, for numerous
reasons.
It's not worded wonderfully, but it just means that it'll install Trisquel on
the USB stick from an ISO, resulting in a live USB stick. The instructions
for Windows work on any computer that runs Windows; there's no other
per-requisite.
