That is a recent laptop. I would try updating Linux-libre, following the

Acquire a Wifi adapter that works with free software/firmware.
http://libre.thinkpenguin.com sells some and guarantees they will work with
free software/firmware.
You should probably follow this guide, this is what I followed and I have the
latest kernel running without issues.

Transitioning from Win10. Installed Trisquel mini on my PC, built on AMD
Ryzen 3 2200G. Won't give me change display properties from 1024x768. My
monitor easily does 1920x1080.

I've got this x61s with a good clean body that needed a new screen. Did
that. Now I want to replace the wireless card with a free one. I've been
told that the BIOS will likely not accept a free card. So, I assume that
some other hardware component(s) will need to be replaced. Can anyone
right! ty

The internet radio streams from Jamendo are very good, and they target many
specific music genres. However, I'm using Starfrosch instead mostly at
present, as I prefer to use an external player rather than a browser-based
player. The Icecast / Shoutcast streams from Jamendo are not working
