No hopelessness here :) I may attempt the SPI flash method to at least knock
out the whitelist. As far as Coreboot, I am not holding my breath for how
long that may take to get 100% working. I know I could probably donate my
laptop to th cause but I currently use it as my main computer :)
I have a Thinkpad W541. I don't see it in the list of supported boards:

I have read some things about removing the whitelist in the BIOS, but it

I never said it was impossible to get this working :)

I just got my M.2 wifi card that you recommended and apparently my Lenovo

I think you have to rule out that there is no problem with your sound

Has this ever worked for you? If so what happened/when did it stop working?
What does your "Sounds" setting say as far as your input and output?
After you brought up that the hard disk companies have largly merged up, I
looked into it. Things have changed quite a lot in the last time I bothered

I totally agree about not wanting to stay at a novice level. Normally I like

Western Digital 2.5" 5400RPM "Blue" SATA hard disk.
The 5400 RPM drive I am using is 2TB and is at least 10 times slower than my
SSD that died.
I am speaking only from my experience.
I recently learned that while SSDs are very fast as hard disks, they die
extremely quickly. I have hard disks that are going strong 20 years later,
but this SSD I had installed lasted for less than 5 years.
I recently replaced my SSD with a 5400 rpm drive and the slowdown is stark!

No. Its like all of the screens are overlapped and im unable to reposition
