Have you reach out to Minifree? By buying from them you get the advantage of
tech support and warranty.
Hey Masaru, in regards to the wifi problem, did you replace the wifi card
that came with the x60s when libreboot was installed? that might be the
issue.

This post is kinda contradictory. On one hand Chris wants to avoid being
spied by Google or Amazon, in the other hand he doesn't care what proprietary
software can do by using that hardware.
One way that would convince me is convention (just like most words we use). I
we all agree on what a word means then we can say we are talking about the
same thing. So if by convention the word spam is mostly used in a different
way I'm using it I can take back my opinion.

I agree that trolling is undesirable in a serious forum, and I agree he's not

I disagree with you, if we were to share a video with a vulnerability in the

To me, if he means it (he's trying to communicate something he believes is
real), it's spam; if he's just trolling, it goes to the troll lounge.
Completely irrelevant to the forum
I guess the only way that you can do version control in the most free way is
storing your own repos. Do any of you know how good is notabug.org?
Thinkpad T400, T400s or X200 with libreboot, sparkling water and juggling
balls. That's all I need
When I get that message, it gives me the opportunity to allow the browser to

The version in the Trisquel repos is 52.3.0 and noscript is not compatible
with it. Noscript requires verion 59 and above.
The way to install it is
"sudo apt install curl"
just in case you need it
Actually I always wanted to have both Abrowser and Icecat on the latest
version in Trisquel since the icecat in the repos is very old though I guess
we can see Abrowser as the up to Firefox version and icecat is in a LTS (or
at least that's the way I see it).
I have to agree with you that Abrowser does not have LibreJS by default.
There are also a few more extensions that icecat is featuring. I guess there
is nothing that you could not install in Abrowser if you know what you want.
I have to say that Icecat helps on setting you up for a free
I have saw the same behavior when trying to install it from that link.
So after playing a little with my computers I found out the following:
* My T400s does not have bluetooth XD
* My X220 does have bluetooth, for whatever reason there is not a GUI that
manages bluetooth by default; the only thing I found was a GUI for sending
files so I tried it and it
Hello amuza, I have tried different kernels without having any issues. I've
used jxself's latest kernel and LTS kernel as well. I'll check Bluetooth with
one of my computers later today (my T400s which is my daily driver does not
have Bluetooth built in)
Hello Danrobi,
In the case of the kernel version, Trisquel is a Point release distro, that
means it releases a versions of the OS and then it just pushes security
updates. Version 8 of Trisquel is based on ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Long Term
Support) which has support to 04/2021. So I agree the
Welcome to the Trisquel forum. I hope you enjoy of the great people that's
part of this great community. With the few years I have in this forum, I can
tell you you'll see very interesting conversations.
In regards to canvas configuration, you could type "about:config" in
Abrowser's address bar and then just use the search bar to search for
"canvas".
Thank you for your advice, I have a corebooted thinkpad X220 so I can order a
keyboard on ebay and replace it.
Once connected to a USB keyboard, the problem doesn't show up, while with the
laptop keyboard, it actually shuts down. I guess I have to check that
keyboard.
Thank you for the support cmonk
Here is what I could get:

Just recently I started a switch from the default Mate DE to DWM from
suckless.org. Since the Alt key is used a lot, I started using both Alt keys.
When I used the right Alt key with any combination, my computer shutdown. I
thought this might be an issue with my dwm configuration but I was
Correct, you should be able to install a fully functional system without
connecting to the Internet. To be fair I have never used the text mode
installation. I'll give it a try tonight and let you know my experience. I
wonder if there is a skip option during the network configuration?
If I remember correctly, when you boot the Trisquel installation media, you
have the option to use text mode.
In the U.S. the red wire is the positive and the black wire is the negative,
I would never recommend to connect the positive as the negative.
For those like me that have no idea what debootstrap is :
https://wiki.debian.org/Debootstrap
I guess in that regard you have a point. Seems unfair to ditch a distro that
really tries to make things right for another one that doesn't support the
ideology. Although Fedora claims freedom, in reality it's no practiced.
Thank you, I'm sticking with Trisquel.
Hello, I just wanted our opinion about using Fedora using the Linux-libre
kernel, is it Ok freedom-wise?
Woud you be able to share the factory rom, the coreboot image you created
and/or your coreboot configuration? Hopefully I can find there the problem
I'm having.
One other thing I believe could be an issue is that I could install a wifi
card that doesn't require non-free software, which
Basically, until Lenovo (or any other manufacturer) wants to share (so, maybe
never) we have to stick with old computers to have freedom, right?
Other question, I tried installing coreboot to my x220 and for some reason,
it didn't like it. It'd freeze every once in a while, either after some
I just got an X220 from ebay (for some reason coreboot is not working
properly for this computer), I also have a T450 which works pretty good but I
cannot install a wifi card (only an external adapter) and a T400s but not so
powerful. Which computer should I keep for day to day computing?
Sr. You have my respects for your patient reply
>> Maybe a hardware issue then?
He might be talking that the hardware you have is defective, rather than
incompatible with Trisquel. I experience an issue with one of my computers
and found out one of the RAM sticks was bad, this caused my computer to
reboot at any time.

You should probably follow this guide, this is what I followed and I have the
latest kernel running without issues.

Other thing you can also do, is to send an email to the proprietor asking in
a nice manner to free his software.
I'd think that Trisquel could go with Icecat for a semi-rolling browser. It
helps that it's kind of already a stable version, plus all the stronger
privacy features it offers.
Thanks for the explanation. This helps to clear out why Trisquel freezes its
software versions. Personally I preferred the "rolling release" approach,
then I decided to go 100% free software and got to know Trisquel, it is now
my favorite distro, I run a small server powered by Trisquel and
Hello and welcome to the free software community. Ubuntu uses bash as its
shell, Trisquel uses the same shell (the shell is the command line user
interface). The only difference is that you would not be able to execute
commands that require non-free software.
I think it doesn't come in the Ubuntu 16.04 repos. I also found that it has
not being maintained since 2010, I think that would be enough reason to not
include it.

You can probably use the .deb package
http://myspace.voo.be/pcoupard/cwirc/debian/cwirc_2.0.0-0_i386.deb.
You could also build it from source, https://directory.fsf.org/wiki/CWirc
here is a link to the tar file.
If you need any further help let me know, I'd be happy to help.
Hello, I'm experiencing the same issue after updating to Abrowser 64.
I'd recommend to start checking on this webpage, it describes how to coreboot
a thinkpad x220 (https://karlcordes.com/coreboot-x220/) but it applies to the
T420 except the part of disassembly, to do that you can check this nice guide

Hello newlinuxuser,
I have a T420 with a wifi card that supports fully free software. My method
of doing it was to flash coreboot on my unit (I did it all myself), I don't
know about tapping pins. The benefit of corebooting was the fact that I could
reduce the Intel ME.
Cheers
Just an update on this topic, I had to send the laptop back to the seller,
since it got to a state it wouldn't do anything. The T420s is dead, hopefully
I can get a replacement. For now I'm writing form a T400s with Libreboot +

Hello guys, recently I bought a thinkpad t420s from ebay, this is a
refurbished computer, when I turned it on, it started correctly and could
access to the windows installation that came with it. After a reboot to
install GNU/Linux the unit didn't boot up, I could hear 5 beeps coming from

Hi s1lv3r,
Sorry for the so late reply, I guess the one would give you the best answer
is the minifree team i...@gluglug.org.uk, I guess they may have the answer, I
really don't see the issue with the chip, but ask to make sure.
Abrowser is one of the reasons I have Trisquel installed after the fact that
it is 100% free software only. It has a lot of nice features for privacy.
I totally agree with you. I remember using guis like unetbootin at some
point, I also used rufus and some other stuff. Since I learned how to use dd,
that's all I need to know.
dd:
* Fast
* Reliable
* alway works
GUIs:
* Have to install
* Not always stable
* Unexpected management of your
Hi Tiberiu,
That works just fine, do you know the cause for this issue?
Hi uboot,
The output of that command is:
nvramtool: CMOS option table not found in coreboot table. Apparently, the
coreboot installed on this system was built without specifying
HAVE_OPTION_TABLE.
ubooy thank you for your answer, I agree, at some point we have to make sure
we have a good substitution for hardware this old (hopefully in the long
term).
I guess the only problem with a Talos computer is the high price XD not to
mention the portability issue. Maybe one day get the combo
Thank you for your comments. Maybe the T420 is the way to go for now. I
didn't know the T440p was still a classic thinkpad.
Hi there, I recently was able to install libreboot on a Thinkpad T400s and
also coreboot on a T420. My question is, which computer should I keep as my
daily driver? I like the fact that I could use libreboot but at the same
time, the T420 is more powerful than the T400s.
I recetly flashed a T400s with libreboot and installed Trisquel GNU/Linux. It
all seems to work great exept for one thing. Whe I power up the computer, it
seems like some of the drivers don't start (wifi card es not active and can't
use the fn keys). If I reboot the unit everything works
Interesting, I have the opposite experience. It seems to me that Mate is a
bit heavier than xfce. I guess at the end it's about the user experience you
get with either of those DEs, since performance is not an issue on my
thinkpad t400s
That sounds familiar, I think there is an option you have to activate in the
compiz settings manager in order to have window borders.
