Yes! I did that but I received invalid magic number.
I installed debian with success on my gluglug box. Maybe it may help for
trisquel:
I copy the hd media files (vmlinuz and initrd.gz) on sda4; and copy the
netinstall iso on an USB stick (Only copy it!);
I boot; key c;
linux (ahci0,4)/vmlinuz;
then
initrd (ahci0,4)/initrd.gz;
then
boot
And
+44(0)1268 857 769 without the 0 should work.
I installed yesterday Trisquel 3.5 on my dell inspriron 1501 but had lot of
pains before it worked.
ISO cd (or USB key) didn't boot after selecting language and loading kernel.
At the end I found a solution: removing the splash option to the kernel boot.
After that it booted and I installed

I can say, the problem come from the kernel in the amd64 version because it
boots with the 32bits one on the same laptop.
And I don't think it's a burning problem because the 64bits version boots on
my Sony vaio.
